I saw last month and I’m going again next week. It’s not to be missed, Nicole is magical, she is Norma. As if we never said goodbye is the show stopper, give them all Tony’s.
OMG WOW! I just saw Sunset BLVD. on Broadway and I am astonished! Nicole Scherzinger was breathtaking. Tom Francis was great. However, David Thaxton and Grace Hodgett Young were a revelation. A must see.
Saw it last week on Broadway after seeing it 11 months in London. The second time around I caught a lot more highlights that I had forgotten about seeing the first time. I also sat in mezzanine, first row center as it was the only good seats remaining at time of purchase (in London I saw it center orchestra section). Loved your assessment!
I am a HUGE fan of everything Sunset Boulevard. I have an original movie poster in my living room. I saw the musical in 1994 in LA with Glenn Close at the Shubert Theater. For this revival, I had tickets to the Oct 5 preview show (I am in Michigan) and I have never been to NYC. My husband and I were going to stay right in Times Square, but sadly I had to cancel the travel plans. I hope to maybe be able to go in the next few months or early next year, if it is still playing.
I saw this at the West End, and it completely won me over! I love the concept of your channel-there’s so much potential here, and I can’t wait to watch you grow. Keep inspiring others to catch shows when they can… and to hold onto their wallets when they need to! 😂
Thanks for the review. I have tix in November. I can’t wait! Thanks for the info on the taping of slime tutorials. Not good that they don’t intervene until intermission or end of show. These tix aren’t cheap and patrons should be allowed to enjoy it. Let’s hope they do a proshot of this production.
Have an amazing time at the show! I was disappointed that the ushers wouldn't intervene with cell phone usage, but I understand they are following protocol (provided to them by the creative team, I assume). I hope you have a great experience with the audience you see it with!
@@BeforeItCloses I just saw it. I loved it! What an incredible production! No disruptive cell phone usage at my show. I think everyone was riveted. Betty Schafer was played by Sydney Jones in the performance I went to. She may have been doing her first show in the role. She was outstanding. Hoping to go again to see Grace. David Thaxton was incredible as Max, but it was incredible across the board. Partial ovation for Just One Look, almost full ovation for As If We Never Said Goodbye. I watched the old movie a few weeks before seeing this. Glad I did.
I saw it at the Savoy in London, and was nervous ! as i've watched the film 100 times, saw it on stage with Pattie LePone, Elaine Paige & Glenn Close, so i thought i might not like it, but i LOVED it & i actually didn't compare it at all ! just saw it as a new play, i really think if you're doing a review, you really should have at least seen the film in order to compare & get the brilliance of Jamie Lloyd's stripped back version
Hello! Just found your channel. Have you seen any Asian musicals? A lot of them have orchestration like this, the kind Western musicals don't really do anymore. You should look up Brandon Lee's Frankenstein. It's really good. There's an album from 2018, and two proshots from Japan. The original Korean production apparently had a proshot recorded this year, but a release hasn't been announced yet. It might be in movie theaters worldwide with subtitles, though, so look out for it!
Thank you for the recommendation! I'll keep an eye out for a proshot of Frankenstein. Hopefully it ends up at a movie theater near me, or better yet, a live production! I was able to listen to a small clip and liked what I heard!
@@BeforeItClosesGlad you liked it! It might also be available for streaming. The Japanese proshots are available on DVD, but no subs yet. If you copy-paste ミュージカル フランケンシュタイン (Japanese) or 뮤지걸 프랑켼슈타인 (Korean), you should be able to find a lot. There’s a Korean website called namuwiki that has a ton of information about hundreds of Korean musicals if you google translate. The Namuwiki summary and the Japanese DVD should be okay until someone makes subs. I hope they do soon, though! (Sorry for leaving a long comment on an unrelated video)
I'm happy you enjoyed the show. While many ALW fans like SUNSET, many have found it to be awful. I think Sunset Boulevard was the last ALW mega musical from it's period, which is also my childhood (adolescence). After Sunset, the 1980s European producers were losing steam on Broadway. Many musicals of the 2000s from ALW in the 2000s got panned from American audiences but did OK on Londons West End. The Woman in White never made it to Broadway due to the American actress casted who critics claimed screamed through the songs. Whistle Down The Wind had a pre-tryout in some city but no one liked it. Luckily, I saw it in London, England when was 18. The Beautiful Game was never attempted in a tour, but hace played cities in Canada with a new name -- The Boys in The Photograph. Stephen Ward was never attempted. I consider myself LUCKILY to have witnessed Love Never Dies in the 2018 US Tour which was ALW testing the waters. It recieved mix reviews and during the performance I saw, people left in the middle of the show. I was nit happy with that, so I even tweeted a PM to the theatre about how disrespectful this was. Emergencies happen. So that's fine. 1 person getting up every 5 minutes is just too distracting. Unfortunately, the theater cannot hold people in. They can only hold people from coming in. 2014 ALW saw some success with The School of Rock. It was a crowd pleaser abd many people enjoyed it. It got good reviews. Now going to the other arteurs of the 1980s -- Claude Michelle Schoonberg and Alain Boublil. While Les Miserables has found worldwide success as well as Miss Saigon doing pretty well as the megamusicals they are, Martin Guerre never made it to Broadway despite it having the most beautiful music. Maybe it was a book problem? Anyhow, there was a tiny tour and 2 cast recordings (original lindon cast and the 1999 U.K Tour) but it was no Miss Saigon. Decades later they premiered The Pirate Queen. While an actress was pointed for a good portrayal of queen Elizabeth, critics claimed music was repetitive and it failed miserably on Broadway. Amazingly, there is a an original Broadway cast recording. Unfortunately, the French duo brought us Les Miserables were like one hit wonders. They haven't had a hit on Broadway since Les Miz. And now ALW has lost his footing as PHANTOM and CATS are gone. Bad Cinderella became nothing more than a meme. Bad Cinderella did well for it's short run in London but Londons run was much longer than Broadway's 3 months. Although I've never seen Sunsert Boulevard but have The original lindin cast and the Los Angeles (American Premiere Recording), maybe ALW axtually needed a fresh take on one of his older works. Even if Sunset runs for only a year; we can claim that ALW has found some success. There are so many other great ALW shows that need revivals of okder shows unbeknownst to us Americans. However, in order for them to even have a chance, they need a new direction. I think Whistle Down The Wind could use a bit of Jaime Lloyd direction. However, it probably cannot be done minimalistically like the new production of Sunset. Unfortunately, Americans may not get a chance to see this show. I think Beautiful Game could be done well some screens since they need a crowd of people playing soccer such as in The Final. P.S if you listen to "If This Is What We're Fighting For" from The Beautiful Game by ALW and Ben Elton, you might notice some recognizable notes. It's also a very powerful song. Unfortunately, without context, no one may know what it's referring to. All I know is is that it has a sad ending.
Ridiculous if what you say about the Ushers not intervening with people filming - you'd never ever get away with that in the West End - nor should you.
I don't care about people filming unless they are doing it in a way that it is ruining peoples experiences. We should get more recordings so everyone can enjoy these once in a lifetime performances.
Wow...good thing you didn't actually pay your seats. Everyone with an experience has seen the movie a number of times so there was no point in creating a musical with bland songs. But....Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me? Don't you wish your girlfriend was a freak like me? Dontcha?

It will be. This builds on the previous and make it's own mark. Go in with an open mind and ears!!
Love the theater all my life, but too expensive these days for fixed income 💲😢

Also, was it the “get in my belly” that threw you off? It did to me, if that’s what you were referring to in Act 1.
Thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment and for your support! I am glad my videos are resonating with you.

The producer Jamie Lloyd is going to do the same with Evita next summer in London
Will Nicole do it too?

I was disappointed that none of the songs had live video, esp. none of Nicole's songs.
The title song is live. The beginning on Act 2, is literally sung live outside the theatre...
