    Some people have icons of their parents, sports players, sports teams and even celebrities posted on their walls. And these same people think it is wrong to have icons depicting saints. We have crucifixes, statues and pictures of saints in most of our rooms of our home, and demons are most uncomfortable in our home. Also when people are having health tribulation, they often call on us to pray for them. I recommend every home should have a shrine to Jesus, His mother and St. Joseph located in a prominent place. We are very dignified with the shrine to the Holy Family we have in our front room.

      @@user-sp6co7wn5vthe bible says not to worship images and idolatry, it allows the veneration of holy objects like the tabernacle( which had cherubim images on it). The bible is itself iconargraphy because letters are pictures and these "pictures" convey divine messaging. And before you quote the old testament about not showing God in images, you have to remember that the Son did not incarnate into the world in the old testament but did in the new testament as he is called the icon of the father in the greek of hebrew 1:3. When we venerate a icon of christ or the saints, we giving respect to what they represent, we are not worshipping the image in of it self.

      @@weebmcdonald8834I would add that even the holy temple that King Solomon built for God had icons in it. Also, God told Moses' people to look at the bronze serpent in order to be healed from their sicknesses. It was only when the Israelites started worshipping the bronze serpent later on that it became a problem.

    We have a shrine of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, the Holy Family. We have a votive candle in a votive glass holder. It is a warm feeling. However, I want to warn that votive candles candles can be a home fire hazard. Pets can knock them over. When the candle burns at the last bit of wax, the wax becomes hot and vaporized, and the flame gets large and fierce. We have our votive candle glass placed inside a larger glass bowl to be more careful should the candle become too fierce. And we have no combustible paper or fabrics near the votive candle.

    When the pagans bow down to icons of their demons in worship, are they worshipping them or "venerating" (which means to worship) them?

    • @joshuawebster0861
      @joshuawebster0861 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Venerating and worshipping are related concepts but have distinct meanings, particularly in religious contexts:
      1. Venerating: This refers to showing great respect, honor, or reverence towards someone or something. Veneration does not involve attributing divinity or performing acts of devotion that are reserved for a deity. For example, people might venerate saints, heroes, or ancestors as a way of acknowledging their virtues and seeking their intercession or inspiration.
      2. Worshipping: This involves acts of devotion, adoration, and reverence directed toward a deity or divine being. Worship typically includes rituals, prayers, sacrifices, and other practices meant to honor and connect with the divine. Worship implies a belief in the deity's power, divinity, and role in the lives of the worshippers.

      If you want to talk about definitions, here's the proper root of the word 'Venerate':
      "Venerate comes from the Latin root venerārī, which has the various meanings of "to solicit the good will of," "to worship," "to pay homage to," and "to hold in awe." That root is related to Venus, which, as a proper noun, is the name of the Roman goddess of love and beauty."

      @@SteliosMusic Because Jesus came as a physical human being, physicality has become a part of our understanding of spirituality.
      The icons represent Christ but are not Christ.
      You are an icon. You are made in the image of God. You are not an idol.
      Icons are not idols therefore that commandment doesn’t go against them.
      Take into account the icons made by Moses (I.e ark of the covenant with the cherubim) and king Solomon (I.e temple of Solomon).
      Take into account even the ancient jews used icons and the early Christian’s use of icons.

      They are icons. I don’t want to sound repetitive if you’ve heard this statement before, but it’s no different than you having a picture up of a loved one in your house or on your desk at work. Idolatry is the worship of a false god or something that you submit yourself to. You aren’t worshipping the imagery of the saints, Mary, or Jesus but rather using it as a way to remember their essence. Kind of like how you don’t love the image of your family but rather what it represents.
