LATTE, ex NOAA David Starr Jordan, has been a work horse for NOAA and science. So far she has spent an estimated 8,949 days at sea and sailed more than 1.3 million miles. Researchers aboard the vessel measured and weighed 1,000 sea turtles, took 27,000 photographs using remotely operated vehicles (ROVS), and conducted 27,000 oceanographic sampling casts, 22,000 plankton tows and 4,700 fish trawls. The ship has participated in expeditions extending from ALASKA to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. Recently Ocean Starr was chartered to a private nonprofit studying the Pacific gyre (floating plastic), baselining and recording this danger to our oceans.
LATTE should be seriously considered by the hard core adventurists.

I sold this vessel to a British security firm last year for duty in South Asia. They spent over a million dollars on servicing and upgrades in Seattle before sending it 8,000 nm to Singapore. Their plans changed and now they have asked me to find a new owner. This ex-NOAA ship has an amazing history of global exploration and research. It can be further updated and even lengthened to become a kick-ass global expedition yacht. Don't wait around. In this market it's going to sell fast.

$1.3 Million from the government specification vessel, not bad, with super structure. I would taking it home and heading to Asia, Australia, later Norway, Denmark, etc. But it sold.
Lucky for the new owner. My family used to have five vessels before the fall of Saigon in 1975. After invasion from the north, we were robbed. We used Cummins engines ordered from the USA for our own built largest fishing vessels.

She is a rugged and tuff vessel. I think she would function perfectly as a International Polar Partnership Vessel. I wish the political wheels could move fast enough to take advantage of this USA made ABS quality research vessel. Timely vessel for the International Polar Partnership Countries to commonwealth on joint science missions, and the great expense of operating such a vessel. Alaska and Norway should take the lead in home porting this vessel. Annual NWP and NEP missions would be a great place to start getting bace line and advance operations in the Arctic. We are ready to help develop an International Polar Partnership Center in Alaska. I know we can create programing, that would support the needed real time science mission, operations, and integration's of new tech for supporting such a valuable educational R/V.

Interesting. I think you are right. I don't remember why I did that, but I still love that shot. My drone followed them pretty far offshore and then an amorous seagull started chasing my drone and I had to retreat.

She was in service with a security firm in the UAE and then was sent to scrappers in India.
the all weather toughness & high KW watt power w/refit could hve super green hybrid drive & old school ppl power crewing & range. Enough high tech set up in place & modified & low tech winches & cranes. Seems to Me she should B fishing & canning or storing & scientist can free ride & lab on board tag along, or get occasional detours when fish net storage full. 2 for 1 trip if going 2 extreme places, but ship has to till bring in the catch that pays the bills & fuel. Just ppl able to ferry scientist to remote places & recover is help hand good save way to travel & know u will get picked up. So instead of all science, needs to b commercial 75 & 25% research catch is where the gold is at.
