Hi,as a retired marine engineer of 40+years I believe a place for everything and everything in its place. The engine room looks a shambles, and I would feel the need to strip the whole interior back to the shell plating…..but given the TIME and money…what a project..if only😀.
I joined the RN at HMS Ganges in 1964. My first draft was HMS Bulwark as a radio operator. I spent an entire day being sent all over the ship from store room to store room trying to get a fuse for a dead light. Great days. Nice video and a lovely trawler.
Hoy Navy Boy! full marks for the "preparing your Scran" comment, deduct 10 points for "Chain Locker", remember, it's CABLE!! Seriously, I want this blank canvas, the potential is immense, my dream boat. Please keep up the good videos, do-er uppers are my passion!! Better to watch than the Cannes/Monte Carlo plastic boat videos.
I was thinking that a few strategically placed pipe bombs might be a good start for the retrofit of this old girl LOL. The bones are there but my God she needs a lot of TLC. Under the right ownership, she could be turned into something amazing for long-distance cruising but a wallet the size of a steamer trunk would be needed. I would love to see someone with the right vision and the finances turn this old girl into something amazing. I have been a subscriber for quite some time and I really enjoy your videos such as these. Thank you so much for the work you do bringing us these interesting videos. Cheers from Canada
As a retired second engineer I believe there is room for improvement in several areas to include HOUSEKEEPING, specifically related to that shithole you call an engine room… I would be extremely worried about the condition of any machinery that hasn’t been replaced in the last 5 years due to the nature of the business. If it’s not making money it’s costing money. A good equipment maintenance log might relieve some stress …
I immediately recognised the shape of this boat. I skippered it back in the early 2000's bringing her back to UK from Malta in March 2001 where she'd been operating as a Guard Vessel/ Survey Boat. She was a very seaworthy boat due to her dutch trawler design and we made the journey non stop in 13 days despite some awful weather. She looks in a bit of a state now sadly so someone would definately have their work cut out to make her seaworthy again!
I found your channel recently as I'm looking for a steel ship to add to my marine based electrical business. I like that you tour these older ships. You have been overly kind on this one. I appreciate that is what you need to do, as it would be hard to convince people to let you tour them if you were not. IMO the seller is going to be hard pressed to get any money for this ship, it's basically scrap so if he can't give it away to someone with a dream, he's going to have to pay money to get rid of it.
Seems a good project for sure. The lay out is good and has workable basics. Have no idea about the investment required or its feasible condition. But would love to see her if she got a retrofit.
This vessel has real potential for the right buyer(s). A non-profit that needs a barebones longrange explorer vessel could crowd fund the restoration/renovation, including professionally drafted plans with projected materials and labor costs. This would be a serious long term project that would take a couple of years to complete. But, in the end, it could serve a valuable purpose - for someone.
This could be a great project if the hull plates thickness reports come out with a reasonable life expectancy. The main expense here would be the engine room. Since I hate one engine boats, I would replace the old engine with two new ones of a lower horsepower and size. That would require the modification of the aft part of the hull and maybe the rudder system. After an investment of newer electronics, a new generator and a good cleaning of the tanks, I would move the boat to Spain, Turkey or Croatia where the interiors can be done at a cheaper price. While they work on the interior, all exterior surfaces can be stripped and repainted. All this would have to be done for les than $1.2 million. One cent more than that and there are many trawlers in the same size range in the market that do not need that investment and are a lot newer. Anyway, it is a beautiful old boat.
That trawler has great potential to become an expedition ship. Yes, you are right that the engine room is as it was in active service. Wish she gets a good new owner who appreciates the wonderful lines of this trawler.
Love the lines of her hull! But 125k is a bit much for just a hull. What was her fishing number? I would like to search her history and old pictures. That ship next to the other fisherman, is it a Friese Maatkast or Kempenaar? A Dutch barge for sure, it's for sale as well?
I am not sure re her fishing number or if the barge is for sale. Check out the link in the video description as I am sure that the broker will know more 🫡
A bit weird having the watch chair to port. E.R. a shambolic mess, but suspect most of that is result of the rather naive and unskilled "landlubberish" conversion. Dutch boats are almost always well thought out, and all the essential kit seems to be well installed and still there, so looks to me like a few weeks of tidying, systems overhaul/maintenance would probably put her in reliable condition again. The take her somewhere with warm weather and cheap happy labour and do the rest.
As another commenter who feels the need to post my resume, or the resume of a relative or a guy I met in a bar once at the beginning of every comment for some unknown reason, I know what I'm talking about and this is a boat.
A whole lot of work. She has some nice lines but not sure it would be worth the money to properly refit her over just buying something that didn't need that much work. I mean it needs everything. Sand blasted to bare metal and completely gutted. You might be able to get it done in the far east or south American shipyard that wouldn't bankrupt you.
Love your vids, for the most part. Very informative but not all yachts are to my taste. Ill wait to give you a "like" AFTER ive seen it. NOT before. Also, some of us would like to hear the measurements in "feet" in addition to meters. Just saying. Fair winds!!!
I think you did a really good job in trying to paint a rosy picture of this absolute turd of a boat. Whoever owns it is asking $75k too much. It is in abysmal condition, it has a very weird layout and right off the bat needs 25k in plating just so you can get it back on the water? Anyone who buys this boat is probably in for a very rude awakening once they start working on her.
It was a project boat maybe 15 years ago, now it's better to use this pile of steel as an artificial reef somewhere. It's sad but realistic. The juice is not worth the squeezing unfortunately, not even if you get this "thing" as a gift.
Fg nightmare ..worth about 10000 pounds . Shot blast the bottom and ultrasound the plate thickness, I’m sure you’ll find it’s fg . You’ll never sell this boat . That’s my opinion after a whole lifetime on yachts
I have a farm I could and would sell to acquire this vessel or somthing like it , but I have no crew. Who has the courage and adventurous spirit to join me. I can pay for the vessel, but I can't do all the rest by myself.

So agree... I would just add an understanding spouse, to your list!
@@I-am-awayTOM ...leave the spouse at home, or temporarily divorce her or get separated 😆
@@Texaca Good advice except two things 1. free labor 2. she can kick my ass!
Those trawlers can spec out very expensively. It could be worth a lot
Thoughts on just keeping it where it is? Living space?
What is that material on the bulkheads and around that top hatch in the aft cabin?

theres a point in most boats life when they need weighed in ,,, this is on the edge.

I’ve got a vision and I’d cut thst boat up and try and get a few quid for scrap - it’s hell
I like this boat, if i had money would definitely buy it working on it would be a joy to me because i like building and repairing things.
If only I had the money. I do hope someone buys her and makes her shine again.
My dad spent 35 years as Engineer (20 of those were Chief) on a larger version. I know what he would say, so I'll just leave it right there.
Thanks for another great trawler tour, great camera and CRAZY owners SPA 😅

WOW, an EXPENSIVE undertaking! I would not want a boat that is not moveable. The expense to get it seaworthy must be astronomical!
She can be moved. Her engine still runs!

As a weapons engineer I was disappointed by the distinct lack of any weapons.
This could be quite a project but what an effort it would take.
Crows nest with a dual .50?
Would a DShK be inappropriate for a Western vessel?
Tho, ammo, now may be tough/pricey to get.
@@toddaron you might have to raid a museum for one and ammo would be an issue. Not happy with a good old 4.5" Mark V?
There's No way this boat is worth 125K , good video
This old girl is CLAPPED OUT 😂😂😂😂
I like it!
Nice boat I'd love to get it
I would convert this ship to traditional sailing rig and do adventure cruises in the arctic

What about asbestos remediation? This would seem to be an additional issue for boats of this vintage.

£25 would be a more realistic price given the cost of repairs.
Im sure you could haggle the owner down some. No one is going to pay 125k for this, no matter how much "potential" she's got.
If I could buy this. I would repurpose it to have a small crew and Doctors/Nurses to Travel around to Islands that need help after natural disasters.
This will be a very big money pit
Is the engine a Gardner 6LX?
No
Great lines and loads of potential but very deep pockets and a schedule of quite a number of years to bring it back to what it could be.
What is “overplating” you say it needs?
Vessels rust most at the water line it's rotten so needs new steel
I wonder what a $1M budget could do for this?
Could this ship make it to America?
Might be beat to make contact with the broker 🙌 Link in the video description
That's a "marina?" Looks more like a ship graveyard to me. Don't marinas typically have... water?
The tide was out
👍❤️
WHATS IN THE TINY FRONT ROOM!
How many bpounds will the owner pay me to remove this wreck from the river??
If I bought this id want to put about 500K down for a full strip and refit/rebuild.
I think this big windows can not stand a rough see
The condition of the engine room indicates the owner was negligent in service. Time to make it into pipe.
Did a blind man fit the engine room? beautiful craft nonetheless.
LOL!! This tub needs a complete teardown and everything replaced and I mean everything. It's worth maybe $10k in scrap.
That will swallow £100k + to make it sea worthy
Multiple that by 10
I would say your number just to make it movable.
How much do they want ?
125K ?
Tell em they're dreamin.
Best part of the engine room is the gardner deisel ,if it runs the rest is junk 😢😮think i'll pass on this one
The cost would be why to high.
Dear God!
the rust from the mud
This could appeal to a young couple starting a youtube channel. But it needs to be cheap.
So, if you throw another 250k at it, you may have some decent exploration yacht. 😂

You will need another 300k to repair that old tub.
Need 400K minimum to make it into to something nice again so the value is marginal
i think it's scrapyard material, what a dump
Money Pit! Probably cheaper to build new!
Engine room and bilges ALWAYS tell the story. A mess.
Lol, bruv, this is ready for the scrap or $3-5mil to make it decent.
You can buy a really nice boat for that kind of money.

Sadness… just sad…. That’s the vibe…. Everything dies…. This is a dead thing….

nearly £30k to fill it up with diesel. 😂😂😂😂
