Bill, very nice. The BTS-style intro setup shots are a treat for your viewers. The pages from your sketchbook could be lifted directly and used in a coffee table book. And y'all have TOY-specific charity shops?!?
My 2 favourite scratch build channels are you and Dan. 1. You're both artists with genuine talent and skills across multiple mediums. 2. You talk through your thoughts on your designs in a genuine way and teach me scratch building techniques that are AFFORDABLE to me. 3. There's no hiding/editing out mistakes. 4. Dry/dark humour is always a good thing. 5. And this is the biggest thing for me- being humble in your successes which you both are. I'm sick of seeing privileged gits pushing their multiple 3d printers, merch and ad affiliations at me just to sell their TH-cam. TH-cam is bad enough with marketing, I don't need some dingbat turning my love for scratch building into a full product advertisement.
Part of the reason I enjoy this channel is the lack of clickbait. Something I've been seeing more of is people blurring the final product in the thumbnail, their title gives me nothing to go off of, and the reveal is not worth a 20+ minute runtime. I'm here to watch something get built, not really interested in it being a surprise.
Hey Bill. Thanks for the video. I still watch crafting videos regularly but my enthusiasm has dropped a bit. It started with craftsman in 2018 and continued from there. Your videos stood out from the crowd in 2022 and I still watch every new video. But I have to admit I'm not connecting as much simply because I've consumed so much of this kind of content. I hate click bait. When someone advertises something that over embellishes something in the video or down right lies about it I immediately click “do not recommend channel”. Also nothing disappoints me more than seeing a spectacularly crafted, scratch built item only to click on the video to see that the crafter 3D printed some parts and glued it together. It’s just not enjoyable, entertaining or inspirational to me.
May as well be a, store bought kit😠!!! Even Thumbnails where they are looking surprised, shocked or even disappointed! Some extreme facial expression😮!!!
I really enjoy seeing how anyone can get into crafting, and all they need is some junk, a few small tools and the Imagination to pull it off. Thats why i enjoy you channel🎉🎉

The sketchbook tour was fun, looking forward to the Ruster hut build too! My problem with 3D printing in crafting videos is when it's employed in a lazy manner. I don't mind crafters who incorporate it into their process (Cut Transform Glue and Gameyy Builds for example) but it's a real let down when you see a cool thumbnail for a build video, and then it turns out the centerpiece is an unmodified 3D print they found somewhere online. I watch crafting videos to see people walking you through their creative process, and that doesn't really fulfill that role.
Recent video from channel who will not be named advertised a giant classic Hyrule map build.. and then the whole video was sponsored by a 3D printing company. They literally didn't do anything but make terrain, paint, and glue down printed props. :/ They did change some parts of one of the existing 3D models before printing but overall it was a huge letdown. For me, it's only interesting when someone is creating something, and I'll watch people work on nearly anything as long as it's their talent/skills being utilized. Somehow even watching people put together pre-made kits is far more interesting/satisfying than watching someone tediously hot glue the 50th identically printed building to a flat green board.
@@xDandelo I think it's totally ok to name a channel that has a couple million subscribers, you're not gonna hurt Jazza's feelings with your comment. I thought that video was pretty cool actually, and you're kind of dismissing the enormous amount of work that went into creating the physical "ground" portion of that Hyrule map. That's still dozens of hours of work planning, cutting and carving foam, painting all of it, gluing down flock, pouring resin, and everything else.
Nothing against 3D printing or builders who rely on printed models. But I do appreciate your scratch builds because its mostly (if not all) things we can find around the house, outside, my mom's garage. Not everyone has access or financial incentive to buy printed models. Music helps keep me engaged. I usually keep youtube running in the background as I get things done around the house, and the music will sometimes make me double take and mentally bookmark a video so I can come back and watch it. Love your Bits Bill!
Oh bill, just found this vid and I’m really enjoying this behind the scenes style episodes! Love your art and have really learned a lot in my own making from your videos!
Quite inspiring. My sketchbook is quite lonely these days, and quite random in a bad way. It was much easier to be inspired when I was playing table top adventure games.
So with the 3d printing thing I think it's when it's not actually something they made. I love Theos 3d sculpting and 3d printing videos because part of the video is himself sculpting the figure on nomad.
You know it seems like views on many videos in general have gone down, but thought maybe it wasn't surprising since it sort of always felt there would be a slow downturn after the covid spike. Totally agree that making interesting videos will draw people to it, but I do also think there's a decent amount that is out of your control as well. Quality doesn't necessarily equate to people watching, they have to be able to find the videos as well. Maybe it's just me, but I also feel like some of the community aspect has gone down a bit, I know a lot of people that used to make videos can't anymore unfortunately. That said, always lovely to see your sketchbooks~
Is that a bit of a cheeky RedLetterMedia i see there, nice! xD It is actually quite interesting how movie critics are getting more and more popular now a days, I've seen mister 12hr content long man, Mauler, coming up on other channels too, it really shows where the film industry is at... :/ but hey TH-cam content quality has been better then ever!
I didn't think I'd like this episode but I Really Did! I saw the exact page that I joined your madhouse😂!!! I kinda got excited when I saw the "Mask Page"❤!!! Of course, I did go back and watch All of the previous episodes, but this video was like "a stroll down memory lane" with an old friend😊!!! "Oh I remember when you did that, I thought that it would be great as it did turn out to be in build!!!" Yes it would have been nice to have dated the pages but it's not too late to start now, maybe even the episode number too❤!
I have both a resin and filament 3D printer and love using them but I come to TH-cam to watch people build for one of four reasons. To showcase their skills, learn skills myself, because I like the personality, or I like the reoccurring world they build within. I'd be more okay with the 3D printing if they were doing the modelling themselves and showing it like GameyyBuilds does but a lot of the time they're grabbing packs of modeller's patreons and printing them off. Though probably an exception when it comes to kitbashing because in that case, what is the difference between printing and buying a model? Little to nothing, I'd say. In case you're wondering Bill, I like the personality and the your little scrap world and aesthetic you do most. Scrap mechs are a strangely niche aesthetic in the model maker space.
After my wheelchair comment, I would love to give my two cents (or is it ten cents? 2 dollars? 32 Deutsche Mark?) to this clickbait and 3d printing issue. I watch a lot of TH-cam (am disabled, mostly at home, can‘t sleep at night - so TH-cam runs the whole time) and usually do not click on videos, but let them just run from one interesting topic to the next. Then I search something and let it run from there. So I usually do not see titles and usually do not care. If I find a channel annoying, I usually skip, otherwise I watch the whole episode and then get to see something else. 3d printing: I love it. It is an amazing tool in my arsenal to create art or just craft a bit for fun - well, I do everything for fun, I am retired… I love channel that craft stuff and also utilise 3d-printed parts and greeblies, because they often create mindblowing stuff i the end. But I also love your channel, where everything comes from different places and the things you have at your disposal shape the things you create. As long as people don‘t just print something they found on the internet and try to fill 10 minutes with that, not crafting anything, not creating anything, but just consuming. This gets a bit boring. The same with AI-Art systems. I use them as a tool to challenge my disabilities and keep on creating, even when my hands won‘t allow it anymore in the scope I would like them to and when creators use that tech to create new forms of art, when they are creative in what they do, it is a wonderful thing, but when some creator just types a prompt and then calls it finished… that is plain boring. My 50 cents on this issue. 🙈🤷
Thank you for another vlog style episode and showing us your sketch books - I have been wanting to see them for ages, so thank you. It's really cool to see how your world came into fruition and how it has developed, and also to hear your plans for the future. I like the typewriter written parts in the journal and the idea of the travel blog. I would like to see you make Smye and his wife and their travelling entourage of bots and a camp, together with tea set, for tea for his wife - rather like a Victorian explorer.
Yes, the "And then I printed out everything that makes this look decent on my resin printer using models I downloaded" videos are a tad annoying if you lack a 3D printer and don't really teach you anything.
Truely Bill’s mind has been geared wholly into seeing the potential of the shapes and details in the whole of something (ie the texture in the construction vehicles). Quite phenominal
My hopeful brain is thinking that the big name games that have dominated the market (and youtube) for so long (ANY GW stuff, 40k, DnD etc) are finally starting to lose their niche appeal because they're the standard (unfortunately), and more people are gravitating to weird indie games. The majority of the crafting type stuff I see that I basically ignore is "Make a 40k board" (oh boy, more gothic arches making the corners of buildings), or "Make forest terrain" (there are about 900 videos utilizing like 3 different techniques for this, if you've seen one, you've seen them all). I'm thinking with the availability of 3d printing, more people are realizing they don't need to spend $50 for a 40k tank when they can buy an STL for $10 and print as many as they want, make their own variants in any scale etc, so the appeal of the games that cater to the "you are only allowed to use this OFFICIAL model" type thinking are hopefully dwindling. Aside from that, your stuff is at least original, and due to the scratch built nature is really impossible to replicate. So you have that angle of uniqueness to not only what you make, but how you go about making it. Part of that is it seems like you focus purely on what YOU like - weird alien rust planets and whatnot, which is awesome. Also your editing is entertaining (I know you have a video production background), so that helps a ton. As an addendum to the 3d printing thing: I don't have years of crap toys or scrap laying around to build cool stuff, because I've moved around a lot over the last decade and made a conscious effort to not hoard trash parts. I enjoy building stuff though, and your videos are part of what inspired me to hunt for Mad Max-able cars at the flea market to use for my wargame armies (I have a War Boy army for Xenos Rampant). One thing I've done is to measure out and model a vehicle I found at the flea market in Blender (I have a 3d sculpting background), and then pull cool pieces off Thingiverse, mixed with some of my own stuff, and printed out stuff to tweak out my car, so now my flea market ambulance is the Blood Wagon, with a turret, exposed engine, exhaust, spiked rims etc.
Great opening, you're spot on about the entertainment factor (both the presentation and the actual content) I've given crafting videos a try based on the cool thumbnail, but then it's just a build over some backing music so I skip to the end and rarely return. Likewise if it's a 3D build, there needs to be some pretty entertaining chat to keep me invested. Creators like you, Crafsman, Theo, Boylie and of course Dan are as much, if not more, an entertainment video than a "how to". Which absolutely calls back to Tony Hart, Neil Buchannan and the Blue Peter presenters. Glad to hear you've got consistent numbers and especially that you're happy with them 👍 Loving these Bill's Bits videos. I mean, the title was misleading and I thought you'd jumped on the onlyfans bandwagon, but this was still great.
I completely agree on the 3D printing. you know it's a tool but people tend to completely make their entire Creation with this 3D printing stuff they've you know got off thingy verse. And then they just painted using other people's inspiration so it's like all these people are doing the same exact thing there's no creativity it's just them using someone else's creativity and painting it it's like a paint by numbers it just bothers me. I don't mind if they use the 3D printer but it's turning into something that is just the entire video
Really enjoyed this. You're definitely a cooler Neil Buchanan to me. I grew up watching Itsa Bitsa, artattack and the like, i guess thats why i relate to your work so much. I tend to re-watch a lot of my favourite episodes because they are genuinely entertaining. I find other craft and hobbie channels a bit boring after awhile.
I went to the boardgame con where you did the build a bead bot workshop, was super fun! I’ve still got the sheet stuck in my journal along with the bot I made
This is by far the best crafting channel on TH-cam. Because you stick to your style. Not trying to be someone else. Love the weird and wonderful world of Bill.
I also LOVE the fact that you watch Red Letter Media. The ultimate collaboration… What movie would you watch with them on the couch if you were invited?!
The bit about showing off your brother’s 3-D prints hit home. My brother has been doing that for over 5 years. Mostly he finds accessories for his rock crawling RCs which is neat. I accuse him of being a collector of hobbies but this one has stuck around.
Here we go-ah ohhhh, it's Bill-making stuhhhhhfffff! Here we go-ah ohhhh, it's Bill-making stuhhhhhfffff ! Listen to the first 20-40 seconds of 'seasons of the year song' (aka "Seasons song" on the channel 'have fun teaching) and then watch the beginning of this... Sorry, Heard that 'seasons song' every day for like 2-3 years, so when I started watching this episode ofBill's Bits... the Parental Stress Disorder Returned with a rage... Love ya Bill! (and all of your assorted squishy and crunchy bits)
I deffs don't have as much time for mini painting stuff now as I did two years ago. What's kepy me coming to Bill, Miscast etc is not only the creativity and presentation, but that the finished product is usually the thumbnail and I just gotta know how it's made
You got me with the art collab video where you did that diorama. That and the rivets. It reminded me of simpler times on shows like Sesame St, if you know what that is. Fing memorizing, quality sht. Lol Thank you for being true to you. It's a rare thing and quite refreshing. 🎉cheers!
I've watched you since the start, I watched you get "Famous"! You deserve it all. Great videos, Great entertainment, Great Non woke comedy. Keep being human and what you tube should be about. Also inspired me to keep crafting and building stuff. Hopefully one day I'll make a video too.
A toy wheelchair *wooohoooo* got a real one and that thing is a ton of fun, so I love toy wheelchairs. I wish there were more miniatures out there in wheelchairs, but some 3d-printing-company made some, I belief. And I think there is a wheelchair rider in that „Nemesis“ board game. I didn‘t have a chance yet to look into that, sadly. So if you really want to make some German dude happy, please make a wheelchair bound bead bot! 😍😍😍
I can picture the frame box thingy being a diorama representing the various compartment of a spaceship\colony\ship with a battle\invasion going on. Regarding the 3D printing stuff: while i agree that seeing a video focused on 3D printing is not engaging, using 3D printed parts is viable, at least in my opinion, as much as using bits from bought minis. Just don't make the printing the focus of the video and say "for the head of this dude i'll use this piece i've 3D printed previously", it's just the same as "this piece i've acquired through bargain\violence".
I like these vids, when you or Dan Does are out in the wild buyin junk and whatnot. You seem cheery too and not like the "Bill Making Stuff" character..!
I do enjoy these. I guess I kinda get it about the 3d printing. It used to bother me more. I think when the sculpt is original, it doesn’t bother me as much.
Wait wait wait!!! I've just realised that you and Dan are not the same person... I was not checking the channels when watching the videos... I susbscribed to your channel not so long ago wondering why I was not already. I was certain that I was already subscribed, but I was subscribed to "Dan Does"!
Yeah nothing makes me turn the channel faster when somebody's like look what I made and then whips out a bunch of 3D printed stuff. I think the art of building stuff is dying thanks to the 3D printer. Definitely happens in my main hobby of Nerf. And I would absolutely still buy copies of your sketchbooks.
Your sketch book makes me wanna continue to flesh out a world of my own inspired by the My Chemical Romance album Danger Days and the Anime Wolfs Rain. Your art style is incredible
This seems to be the first time your last name has been seen, although maybe I didn't pay attention earlier. I couldn't hold on and found your short films, it's great that you did some of them with your brother. There's even a photo of you on Wikipedia.🤓
Always an exciting day when a sketchbook is full. Which I think I’ve achieved twice in my lifetime? Anyway, I would pay relatively big bucks and/or euros and/or pounds for a coffee table book version of your sketchbook. When I’m a big publishing mogul again, we’ll have to talk. Give me a couple of decades, I’m sure I’ll get there...
6 minutes in & I've had to skip 2 TH-cam ad "sessions".... might be part of why views are going down. Seen other types of content creators mention how TH-cam is really not going great for them too, so feels more universal than just crafting content. Not your fault obv. Guess I could buy a premium subscription.... 😂😂 (I won't, I spent it on Patreon instead). I'm perfectly ok with the clickbait titles & pictures. I get that it's just what has to be done. I follow & watch a channel if it's good, I don't care how they present it (if they do stuff to draw more people in, which helps the channel survive, then thats to my benefit to really). Being a 3d printer too, that's all good with me... so long as I'm seeing something that is inspiring (or just entertaining) that's just part of crafting for me these days. I do love the other aspects of crafting too; I find I put more effort in to them. It's nice to have different channels covering a range of stuff of course. Its partly the whole ecosystem of crafting content that works together to keep me watching them all.
I just got into this hobby and love your channel (I'm building a bot for bangarang right now actually!) although I've been beginning to notice that I'm getting sore throats after using the super glue. Your workspace doesn't look particularly well ventilated- what do you do to make sure you're not inhaling too many fumes? Figured I'd ask someone who does it a lot.
Idea for a show - you, Trent, Leif, and Jeremy move into a bungalow and have to make terrain/miniatures out of all the rubbish you produce as a household for 3 months then you sell it all for charity. No waste is allowed and we call it Scrapheads Gangbash. Netflix will chuck a bin of dosh at you! Trust me👌 Great episode btw 👏👏👏
I LOOOOve the sketchbook and all your cool video sound effects and fun edits. It keeps me watching all the way thru because it looks cinematic and is genuinely entertaining and satisfying to watch. I also enjoy your unique humor in your narrations.
When you were talking about spiders in a mask, I totally thought it was just a lore for the mask, like it's a monster with tubed mask and spiders control it, so you making a joke of not wearing it because you "scared ooooo", but then I understood that you probably talking about irl and spiders just adapted your mask to live there x) the conquered it
*Bill* :[has a calm and collected toy hunt at a charity shop] *Me, who has to go on eBay crusades to get junked scifi model kits for kitbashing, constantly fighting other people who overbid the actual value out of spite, getting mad at bots who swipe bids from under me at the last minute and having to gaze upon sellers who list said janked condition kits for triple the price of the MSRP of a new in box one* :......that seems nice

Thanks for the journey Bill!
Enjoying these videos! Nice to see what's happening a bit behind the scenes
- Hate clickbait … YES!
- Hate videos about 3D terrain … YES!
Scratch-building and repurposing stuff for terrain is all I’m really interested in.
but hey TH-cam content quality has been better then ever!
I think that you and I are the only ones who noticed Mike in the background. I either have RLM on or Bill on for when I paint.
"Oh I remember when you did that, I thought that it would be great as it did turn out to be in build!!!"
Yes it would have been nice to have dated the pages but it's not too late to start now, maybe even the episode number too❤!
Yes print a run! Have you thought about making a coloring book
Denselben Senf wollte ich auch dazugeben. ;)
Yes, print these sketch books out! I still want them
I loved the Christmas bauble episode, I think it was the one that got me to subscribe.
Love the videos Bill, the way you put them together is inspiring!! Like your bits too 😊
Truely Bill’s mind has been geared wholly into seeing the potential of the shapes and details in the whole of something (ie the texture in the construction vehicles). Quite phenominal
love the great zimbabwe/ post apoc look for the walls, would love to see those as a future project. Great vid as always Bill!
I love the Bill's Bits episodes! Great behind the scenes videos
Bill you are the bomb diggity. Your creativity, edditing, personality, you nail it all perfectly 👌
Great opening, you're spot on about the entertainment factor (both the presentation and the actual content)
I've given crafting videos a try based on the cool thumbnail, but then it's just a build over some backing music so I skip to the end and rarely return.
Glad to hear you've got consistent numbers and especially that you're happy with them 👍
Loving these Bill's Bits videos.
I mean, the title was misleading and I thought you'd jumped on the onlyfans bandwagon, but this was still great.
God yes please make them available for us mortals w ho can’t draw even if our lives depended on it.
I’ve still got the sheet stuck in my journal along with the bot I made
Bill - The Take Hart of crafting videos!
Or, maybe the Morph of the Crafting World 😄
@@euansmith3699 Does that mean that Cat is Chaz? 🤔
This is by far the best crafting channel on TH-cam. Because you stick to your style. Not trying to be someone else. Love the weird and wonderful world of Bill.
This is the best complement to my Friday morning. We all love Bill’s Bits.
I also LOVE the fact that you watch Red Letter Media. The ultimate collaboration… What movie would you watch with them on the couch if you were invited?!
Just an idea, you could consider putting Bill's Bits on a podcast site like spotify or smth
This was great!!!! Really enjoyed it
Yeeeeeees, more! I need it more! More of bills bits trust towards my face
Wow that Evil Dead Cabin would have been an awesome video
Black magic craft made one that might fill its absence
Totally agree on the 3D printing. So boring.
Would you do a scratchbuilding video for fantasy buildings Bill?
Absolutely spot on mate, great watch🔥🔥🔥
The bit about showing off your brother’s 3-D prints hit home. My brother has been doing that for over 5 years. Mostly he finds accessories for his rock crawling RCs which is neat. I accuse him of being a collector of hobbies but this one has stuck around.
Thanks Bill. Fun video.
Would love to see a new War of the Worlds diorama Build.
I deffs don't have as much time for mini painting stuff now as I did two years ago. What's kepy me coming to Bill, Miscast etc is not only the creativity and presentation, but that the finished product is usually the thumbnail and I just gotta know how it's made
I really enjoy these kinds of videos mate. Complements the more ‘edited’ videos nicely :)
Really love your sketch book
Thanks for sharing, Bill. I really enjoyed it! -Rick, USMC
With zese beets you are really spoiling us!
Had no time to see this earlier...
But...
These are great bits Bill...
You should call it 'Bills Bits' or something... 🎉
Loved the video bro 👌 keep up the work and every other maker or hobby intuseast (soz bad dyslexia haha ) 👍❤️🤘🔥
Love your tour! So much goodness. I want to see some rusted yurts. `
Hi Bill, great video, and I like Dans stuff he has a talent. As do you.
Your art style is incredible
love the sketchbooks :D
I enjoy your work.. keep it up!
Thanks for showing us yer bits
Bill love channel mate thanks mate
Great episode Bill! Love this kind of stuff. Your sketchbooks are really inspiring
This fan girl loves Bill’s Bits!!!!
It would be very cool to see the Ruster King made at some point in the future
6 minutes in & I've had to skip 2 TH-cam ad "sessions".... might be part of why views are going down. Seen other types of content creators mention how TH-cam is really not going great for them too, so feels more universal than just crafting content.
Not your fault obv. Guess I could buy a premium subscription.... 😂😂
(I won't, I spent it on Patreon instead).
Use a respirator I guess. It doesn't get to me much
I'd probably buy a copy of your sketch book for my son as a christmas present
When you were talking about spiders in a mask, I totally thought it was just a lore for the mask, like it's a monster with tubed mask and spiders control it, so you making a joke of not wearing it because you "scared ooooo", but then I understood that you probably talking about irl and spiders just adapted your mask to live there x) the conquered it
Maybe eventually shops will sell Gutterlands merchandise. Then we could all get store-bought sporebots.
*Bill* :[has a calm and collected toy hunt at a charity shop]
*Me, who has to go on eBay crusades to get junked scifi model kits for kitbashing, constantly fighting other people who overbid the actual value out of spite, getting mad at bots who swipe bids from under me at the last minute and having to gaze upon sellers who list said janked condition kits for triple the price of the MSRP of a new in box one* :......that seems nice
