I was a Marine infantry platoon commander in the '70s. My guys thought they were tough until we spent a day with Recon. They showed us that we couldn't keep up and that we weren't as tough as we thought we were. Each branch has their elite and then their regular guys who are just a reflection of society at large. Marines have Recon and now Raiders, Navy has Seals, Army has Rangers and Green Berets, Air Force has their Parajumpers, Coast Guard has Rescue Swimmers. All these have endured physical and mental stress that would break most people. So all this talk about which branch is toughest is just a bunch of baloney.
Yep. It generally depends more on MOS, unit type and individual than it does on branch, though I do appreciate the USMC's efforts to instill an infantry-ish ethic in its non-infantry MOS. People often seem averse to nuanced, or even worse, dichotomous, reality; most people seem to prefer simple, binary illusions. -- a former US Army parachute infantry light weapons sergeant...who jumped a 110-lbs. ruck into the pitch-black and then humped it 20 or 30 miles over mountains and through swamps on a regular basis
@@1619-k8n If that's true, then the standards in the other branches must be pretty low. In the '70s the Marine Corps was pretty bad; low morale, widespread drug use, and constant UA. Just about every week we would bring the dogs through the barracks or even to formation before we went out in the field, and we would catch guys with weed. I spent more time dealing with disciplinary issues than I did training my Marines for combat. It was horrible. Part of the reason for that I believe is that the court system was giving offenders the option of enlisting in the Corps or going to jail. In our drug and anti-authoritarian state we couldn't have beaten a den of cub scouts in a war. Just to correct your assertation, both my Dad and my oldest brother were in the Army and my next oldest brother was in the Air Force. None of them could match my description of the problems we had. Even as a Navy midshipman aboard a destroyer in 1972, I didn't notice the bad attitude in the Navy that I experienced later in my battalion. I don't mean to dis the Marines, but I think for the most part they are full of themselves with their cocky attitude. Getting yelled at louder than the other services in boot camp does not make you a better warrior.
As a Marine, I must say I respect your honesty and candidness when speaking of the Army's new basic training schedule and guidelines. Each branch makes fun of each other, but in a cousinly way of course. And if it's a "shark attack" you guys that are thinking about going in truly want, the Marine Corps will give you 13 weeks of it every single day... Semper Fun
Yeah, my drills at Benning were all just former combat-experienced paratroopers, rangers and Special Forces, they were teddy bears. =] Branch talk is meaningless. MOS and unit types are what matters. -- a former parachute infantry light weapons sergeant

But the thing is, one is bleeding from a paper cut from a SHARP meeting attendance form, and the other is bleeding from two slaps from a DI and a IED...
I don’t think it’s a matter of being soft or not, I think the army is just doing what they can to make sure they keep up the numbers. Joining the military isn’t something a lot of young people are into nowadays, so the army just wants to make sure those that actually do want to join will get in...no matter if they should be able to join or not lol, but I’ve met plenty of folks who shouldn’t be in the military who are, so it is what it is I guess. Gotta do what you gotta do to keep those numbers up lol
I’m 14, and I have talked to my friends, Gen Z has a sentiment against the military, seeing it as a punishment etc. I think it’s just that most of us didn’t grow up with 9/11 being so recently, a lot of us don’t understandz
True, nobody ever wants to talk to the recruiters when they come to my school and it's not like it's just the scary Army and Marine recruiters, basically every branch including their respective guard or reserve counter parts come to and they get barley anybody.
To take something old Jocko said on his podcast. You shouldn't join a branch or job because of how hard or how cool the training is, it should be because you want to do that job. At the end of the day I'm going to join the army (national guard) because it's what fits my life and what I want to do. Hopefully I can help elevate those around me to meet the proper fitness requirements lol
I should have done this lol I joined the marines and I got screwed over by my recruiter I got open contract if I could go back I would’ve switched to the Air Force cause I could have gotten the job I wanted over there
I ended up going navy I got a builder contract so ima be able to experience some “army things” and I want the construction experience for when I get out
@@JA-qs7jm did you join the navy to experience army things? Because Troy could’ve done engineering/construction in the army and done actually army things
You should go for the Army if: -You want to become a mechanic, or some sort of engineer. -You want to do artillery or any field stuff. -You want to be a Green Beret or a Ranger. You should join the Navy if: -You are a tech nerd. -You like the sea. -You want to be surrounded by a very traditional military culture. -You like submarines and nukes. You should go for the Air Force if: -You are tech nerd. -You like office jobs. -You like the sky and space. -You like luxury. -You like nuclear weapons. You should join the Marine Corps if: -Your main objective is to be in the battleground. -You like Brotherhood. -You want to wear that luxurious uniform. -You want to join one of the most challenging branch in the entire world.
i mean i could join Airforce since i'm kinda a nerd but it kinda seems wrong i'm in a nice safe cozy place while my brothers and sisters are dying so most likely ill end up in the marine
I,v thought about joining the Marines, but with me being as out of shape as I am, I probably wouldn't make it past basic training. Plus, the army has more influence in the civilian world, and their dress uniforms look more handsome in my opinion.
I have 7 days to go take my Asvab wish me luck fellows Update I pass so I don’t have to wait 6 month to retake it however my GT score was off by 3point so I’m going take it again
Big tip is to guesstimate a lot in the math portion if you're not good at it, you'll be surprised how good you can do by simply using common sense, eliminating obvious wrong answers and guessing as close as possible, I was ass at math my whole life and really almost every subject since I was more into athletics and didn't care for school work, and ended up somehow passing the asvab with an 82, make sure to focus up on the reading portion, and same with assembling objects, make sure you're super zoned in. Good luck!
@@Hlooaooaoa The requirements for all branches should be unisex and by MOS. The job dictates the requisite abilities. -- a former parachute infantry light weapons sergeant
I spent 8 years in the Marines. It is a small organization. Promotion is harder. The average retirement rank is E-7 for Enlisted and O-4 for Officers (if you are exceptional) The army is E-8 and O-5. That is what you need to look at if you pla guysn to stay 20 years. In the end, the health benefits of 20 years is what's important. Think it through
I would not recommend marines or Air Force to a recruit due to the smaller budgets and opportunities. I was in the navy long ago. Currently, I am impressed by the opportunities the army offers
@@chevy4x466 I am an old Marine. My son is in the Corps now. His best friend was getting ready to ship out for the AF and they changed his job a week before basic. He is going to now ship for the Marines in a week or two. Comparing the Marines and AF budget is a non-compare. The AF has a massive budget in comparison, but they are very disorganized and honestly a bit slow and lazy to get things done. So yes the Army is probably a good medium for now. Good luck future soldier!
100% Agree with you @MattWard I thought everyday during basic and AIT I wished I had joined the marines due to their professionalism, discipline and high standards. Today I’m 11B and my unit is pretty good so I’m okay.. for now... but I am trying to commission. God willing I can influence what we do at least at my company level
If you want to deploy more frequently, spend a lot of time in the field, shoot your rifle all the time, and basically live out that title of Soldier or Marine, I would suggest an Army Airborne Infantry contract, or a Marine Infantry contract. If you want to do "hardcore" stuff and you have the correct mindset, personality, determination, Intelligence, physical fitness level, and you are comfortable in the water then I would suggest getting a contract for a Special operations or a Special operations capable unit (Ranger,18-X,PJ,SOWT, SWCC,SEAL,Recon, etc). Outside of that the Marine Corps has higher standards, and the Army has better funding. I will say this, if you join the Marines and want to change your branch of service after 1 enlistment you can keep your rank and skip basic training, if you want to join the Marines after another branch of service you will start all over again. All of the branches have their pros and cons, if you are thinking about joining and stumble across this comment do some serious research.
Been in the Army 15 year can tell you been in too. I would add that the Army has a huge variety of jobs some of which might as well be another branch all together when you compare what your lifestyle will be like. For example right now I'm an AGR 79V its basically a 9 to 5 Civilian desk job. If I compare that to when I first joined attached to an artillery unit it like night and day.

I graduated BCT about 3 weeks ago and am at AIT. Thank you for all of your content as it made me feel like I was better prepared for basic and made basic "easier" for me. Thank you -PFC Mackes
The First 100 Yards is still difficult and from what I saw, they basically add the traditional Shark Attack in at the very end of it. But yeah, not having to be worried about the ACFT/APFT is a big change
I think what the CSM is trying to do with "The First Hundred Yards" is get new recruits from the start working as team. Also getting them in the mindset to accomplish a mission with little guidances. One task is they will given a mission to complete with mishap on the way. I think the CSM idea with this is to build more confident recruits from day one.
RESPECT for both Branches the U.S. Army is still Down! Long live 82nd airbourne and please believe it has it's hardcore members don't get it TWISTED . and USMC is not for everybody please believe that as well .
After getting out of the Marines in 17’, seeing how much has changed and how soft it essentially has gotten. Then jumping ship to the Army, with an open mind and no expectations, I see more soldiers getting smoked and leaders utilizing corrective action through pain more often here then I’ve seen when I was last in the Corps. Overall, the Army isn’t as soft as people think. But that depends on your MOS as well. I went in 09’ mcrd sd, itb, hit the fleet and getting fucked up bu your team leader was a thing. Then pro 13’, things changed. Army infantry, is about where you’ll see soldiers get worked. My rant, but thought I’d share
Damn. When I was in leadership never used physical exercise as corrective action. They just counseled everyone and gave everyone Article 15s. Lol. It was an MP unit though and they were weak as hell so paperwork was their go to.
A platoon of army rangers just got one of those bad charge like things, for being injured in training. And the sgt.major in charge isn’t even a ranger himself.
You got this I'll be right behind you re-enlisting soon. Matt I saw one of your comments saying there is an intense waiver process you weren't lying. I got dequaled the first time re-enlisted because of my gums never had I had too get a waiver at MEPS. I fixed my gums and it's still taking forever. Takes a hell of a lot of patience. My original MOS was 19D. Switching from Combat too POG. Why? Because I can. Plus I want a job that transfers well too the civilian world for when I get out. So I'm trying too hit Paralegal and I'm hoping too re-enlist before November 17th. Praying too God on that one because then I may not be able too go paralegal because I'll have too retake the ASVAB. Don't wanna do that.
Dw dude the hardest part is thinking about how long it’s gonna feel. Just graduated a month ago and am in AIT now. Basic is easy you just have to not think about how far out graduation is and think about your task at hand and that day.
When you hit your line unit, especially combat arms, the tempo of training and the overall mindset will be high tempo regardless of what the temp rules on the ACFT and shark attack are. I would focus on the end game when your training is done and you start to apply what you have learned in that environment and what you need to learn from your squad / platoon leaders /NCO’s. Just my humble words to help...
If you join the Marine Corps stand by for everyone E-4 and above to tell you how it used to be. "It used to be harder, the Corps got soft", "You have no clue what we used to have to go through", "Mothers of America is taking over the Marine Corps". Even though you will think you have accomplished something amazing, no one else will see it that way. Have fun boots!
Every generation thinks their time was tougher, etc. my Grandpa would laugh at today’s USMC boot camp, which he was actually forced to endure like many others. The military gets more sophisticated with every generation. I still challenge any other generation to beat today’s military. We would smoke them. And I want my kids to be able to smoke me.
My body feel like an 80 years old man, after 4 years of fateful service in the Corps. Both knees aching out of nowhere, sharp pain when walking up stairs, back just hurt out of nowhere sometimes, tinnitus (go death for a few seconds), left wrist hurt when lifting heavy weight due to the fact from holding my rifle so much.
Joining the corps is a HUGE commitment. WE ARE DIFFERENT in a variety of ways. Our standards are high and most people can't adjust. Thats why a lot of people can't make it through boot camp.
Fact. I met a lot of Marines that finished boot camp and felt as though they had “made it”. Boot is the easiest part of your entire military career, it only gets harder and more is expected of you.
In case you're reading this message: Most enlistments are around 4 years of service. Don't join because the first 3 months of bootcamp/basic training is easier or harder, you have at least 3.5 years left in your time, thats what matters more.
It's upsetting what is happening to the Army but I'm still joining it because it's always been my favorite branch, it's history is my favorite to read about, and I'm not turning away from that because of things that might be changing. Hopefully I get a run in the mill BCT experience like my cousin (who says that he's always getting shark attacked at Fort Polk). Great video tho, Matt. 82nd airborne here I come!!!
I hope this is not a negative comment Matt, but the people who claim that any branch is soft are so ignorant. Most of the folks who come in to service are young and immature at times, and the transformation they go through to become soldiers should never be laughed at. For example, I joined the army at age 19, and before that I never did anything athletic because I was just a book person. I had to work out and get ready three months before BCT and still I was far from perfect. The point from the PT test is not to point blank fail you but see you improve slowly. When I got out of BCT I was able to score 289 and still improving a year and half later. THE POINT is that not all people are the same and Army along other branches do their thing depending on demanding the type of work you do and that is not to say that we are soft. In fact, I have seen people from the coast guard who are more physically fit and mentally ready than those from the Army or the Marines. Now, there is no argument that the Marines are more strict because they are usual the first ones out in a battle, however, this is not say that the other branches are slower or less qualified.
Lemme tell you how basic training is nowadays. I graduated from Infantry OSUT back in July, and from my experience and talking with a bunch of other guys in different companies it really depends on your company and drill sgt’s. You are trained to the army’s standard which isn’t very hard, but your also trained to your drill sgt’s standard. If you have 3 drill sgt’s all from places like 82nd, 101st, and 10th mountain you best believe your gonna earn that blue cord. All these old army heads keep saying “oh it’s all sunshine and rainbow, you guys got it easy” except OSUT for infantry is much longer now which just leaves time for more smoking and it’s more focused on tactics now which a lot of these old army guys couldn’t comprehend with a GT score of a highschool freshman.
Well, I graduated OSUT at Benning over 20 years ago...and my ASVAB was 99, so...I get it. I tell everyone that being infantry is, was and always will be hard. That said, OSUT of any duration is like a vacation compared to life in a light or parachute infantry company. Though you might well understand that now. =] Hang in there, little brother. Never stop putting one foot in front of another. You now carry our honor. -- a former 11B2P
@@benjamingarcia2282 what is given? Every branch has to go through an initial training. People quit from all branches. You can find a video of a prior airman bad mouthing the Air Force because he didn’t have a good time. They’re all designed for you to pass. If you want to challenge yourself you need to go to 2x or higher volunteer units. Rasp/sfas/buds/marsoc/recon etc. initial training, ANY Branch is designed for people to pass.
I heard they got rid of combatives. That was what had me most excited when I was joining. I ship out on the 26th for basic now I’m almost regretting joining the army
@milky onion I think the basic training portion is still on, but I’m talking about the combatives program like the MMA training and tournaments you can do after basic and AIT.
I am Generation Z. I wish the military would stay the military. People don’t understand the commitment the military is. They think it will be easy and want the army to make things cushy. In war you don’t get a hotel.
I'm 38 talking to a recruiter to join the army thinking about reserves. As a older person I agree that stress like shark attack stress etc do get ppl use to think under pressure etc and combat. I think that softing up things wouldn't be bad as long it's the quality of training .
Did you join. I thought about joining the Army at 42 but the window closed on me. I am retiring from the Navy Reserves and I would say that active is better especally as a older perosn do to VA benefits at retirment.
I leave for BCT in about 6 months. The thing that bums me out the most is that the shark attack is a right of passage and now I won't get to go through that. I'm not saying it would be pleasant, but still.
I got out of the Army over 55 yers ago. But, let me put it to you like this. When I was in, the Marines were known as a bunch of pimple face loud mouths who were in the way and always got ther asses kicked and handed to them by other banches. Then they were always biting off more than they could chew, and we (the Army) were called on more than I can remember to come and save their asses.
When I went through Basic in summer 1985 we were told if we did not pass the PT test we would be recycled. That's all I needed to hear and I maxed the pushed ups sit ups and ran my best time ever. It seems the Army is replacing the PT test in Basic with the PC test.
Best bet is talk to each branches recruiters, and do a ton of research on your own and see what's best for you in your personal situation! Army offered the most for me
Army brother Matt, I have not heard before today that the Army was considering getting rid of their PFT test in basic training. I would not be in support of this because the military involves being physically fit, to some degree. Not everyone in the Marines ran three miles in 18 minutes; i know I didn't. My basic training time was 19:30. Anyways, after I left the Marines, four years as an Infantryman, i joined the Army reserves. I will admit to this, the Army offers more opportunities than the Marines. Sure, many Marines may get agitated or upset at knowing this, so what, get over it! I strongly believe the main focus of any potential enlistee is, getting the maximum benefits out of the service branch they are interested in joining. Many who join the Marines will speak about the Army in not the most welcoming manner. But how many have actually served in the Army???.Many compare the different basic training. Guess what basic training is only a small part of one's enlistment experience. Being a former infantryman, it was a continuum of what it really meant to be a grunt, four years. What I learned about the Marines and the Army is if someone is joining for the boot camp experience or the uniform, they need to check their opportunity GPS. If I could have done anything different after I got out of active duty, I would have looked into all the career opportunities in the Army. I probably would have stayed in and made it a career. Some of my Marine friends who joined the Army were doing a lot better due to the opportunities that the Army offered them. I think the Sgt. Major of the Army is trying to restructure the Army in the right direction. I hope he will be successful. In the end, it is really about maximizing opportunities. We had many Marines who were Sergeants and if they didn't make Staff Sergeant by 12 years they would get a 2 years waiver; if they didn't make it by then, they were kicked out. That was during my time. Today, I have seen Staff Sergeants with less than 7 years in. To get a Corporal rank, was super hard. Most got out as E-3s, Lance Corporals. I did three deployments, and completed the squad leadership and jungle training courses and didn't get Corporal, literally, until one month before I got out. There was no incentive to re-up. Today, it is way easier.
If you wanted a challenge you’d volunteer for a spec ops units. All initial training, bootcamp included, is designed for you to pass. What do you think is challenging about usmc bootcamp? Is getting yelled at difficult for you? Do you get scared when people yell at you?
Leaving for marine basic the 15th. just want to say thanks for the videos really good information you are putting out and i bet it helps a lot of people.
Be accurate. Compare Marine recruit training to Army basic. Ranger school is just a leadership course, which any branch can attend. You need to study up more.
@@TheOutlawMan i am well aware of what Ranger School is. the two months of near total sleep and food deprivation, is more stressful than the recruit training for either the Army or Marines. and while any service branch may attend Ranger school, the vast majority of graduates are soldiers.

I just graduated from bootcamp. In the company that I graduated from, we started with around 600 recruits and graduated with around 300 strong and dedicated Marines. The Marine Corps is still brutal, and I like that style more over the Army. The Marine Corps is not afraid to tell you the truth, and push you. That’s what separates the two. I am an old Marine 1966 to 1968. The Marines are not for everyone. All branches are on the same team. Each branch trains to their mission. The Army's mission is different from the expiditionary role of the marines. Remember we have the best military in the world, all branches including the Army. We had a "shark attack" of a sort at Ft. Jackson after our bus pulled up in the summer of '81, and it didn't let up until we hit our bunks late that first night. I remember thinking that I made a big mistake joining. Turns out that it was the most awesome experience of my life. As for today's basic, I simply don't know what it's like, only that it's longer. I only know that ours was tough. Nothing like marine basic or infantry, but it was very hot, and our drill sergeant was 82nd Airborne tough. C-7-2, Hollywood Barracks, Jun-Aug 1981.
Lord help us! Meanwhile, our adversries are staying hard and when they meet us on the battlefield they don't care about feelings! I went through Fort Benning, 1990 Infantry (OSUT). After Basic and AIT, In Germany, my mindset and most of my peers was we were ready to meet the Russians on the battlefield even if I we were just a speed bump..
One question regarding eligibility--I know you are not eligible if you are taking any medications for something. What I'm curious about is how does the military handle eligibility for individuals who were diagnosed with ADHD, and on meds,, but through age (puberty?) were able to wean themselves off? Would the past diagnosis also be a downcheck?
So here is your options. If you are currently not taking any meds than don't say anything. For real dont tell your Recruiter don't tell MEPS. There is no way for them to know. HIPA laws means they only know what you tell them. If you were arrested for something that they can find that out but, you could literally have had cancer and as long as there was no surgery scars they will never know, unless you tell them. Other options is if you are too scared not to say something than if it's been over 10 years you will be ok but, you will have to get all your medical records pertaining to that and something saying you don't have it anymore. My advice is, if it's just ADHD and you don't need meds, than keep your mouth shut. If you wouldn't tell Walmart during a job interview about it than there is no reason to tell the Army. You are applying for a job when you are talking to recruiters keep that in mind. Same goes for if you smoked weed before. They are going to ask multiple times but just like you would never say you smoked weed if you were applying for a civilian job you should never tell them when you are applying for an Army job. Hope this helps.
I’m in the process of leaving to the army to hopefully become a dog handler or a cav scout then try to go to ranger school and rasp. Although after hearing about all the changes it’s concerning that I’m not gonna be getting the full training I thought I was gonna get
I just graduated basic training less than a month ago and I went to fort leonard wood which is ranked one of the hardest training centers and we actually had somewhat of a shark attack. Now the P.T. test we did have to pass.
What’s the point of making basic training any easier if life in your unit is the real challenge. My field training in basic training was a cake walk compared to my unit. Plus the new ACFT is much more demanding than the APFT. So I really wanna know what’s the logic of making tradoc softer
Prior service Marine here from 2007-2011. Going into the Army and leaving for OSUT March 22. I've already proved how tough I am once. I'll take the soft Army now thanks lol. In all seriousness, cutting back on the basic training mind fuckery is a bad idea.
Lol...hope you ended up in a parachute infantry company. My 110-lbs. ruck is laughing at the soft times we shared together jumping into the pitch-black and then humping 30 miles over mountains and through swamps.
I'm Army all the way, but why they make that PT test change? Its as simple as just doing Pull-ups, Push-ups, Sit-ups and a timed run. No fucking gym is needed, like, bruh, why?
Hi Matt, I am 10 years old and am recently watching your channel! I am thinking when I am 17 I will join the infantry! Also Can you please heart this? Edit: Thanks for all the likes I never get any likes my record is 4....
Just finished BCT and now headed to DLI. We literally got transportation on the Forge... BCT was not what I was expecting whatsoever and frankly I was extremely disappointed with my experience at BCT
The military has changed its like day & night from when I was in . The problem with the marines is that when they deploy, it takes the Navy to get them there and the Airforce to get them back home. What can they do on there own.
I have a question I was disqualified today for depression I suffered when I was 12 because of a passing in my family, is there anyway around this because I'm going to keep on going until I absolutely know I cant join at all, I want to do this and I'm 19 going to 20 in a couple weeks, any tips?
Ask the recruiter about getting a waiver. I have a dormant virus in my right eye that would ordinarily keep me from passing MEPS, but I got a medical waiver for it. It also depends on what MOS/AOC you’re going for. If you’re going for something like infantry or special ops, then you’re less likely to get a waiver. If you go for something like medical corps (like me) or JAG then you’re more likely to get that waiver.
You have to meet the requirements of enlistment and being in the Army per AR 40-501 (Standards of Medical Fitness). You have to be medication free and have no events or affects within a given period of time. If 12 was the last time you had an issue, there's always a way around it. If you still have depression, don't join.
So I'm in the DEP for the Marine Corps, and I only qualified for jobs in the combat support field and another field that I didn't like or caught my interest. Initially, upon joining the DEP, I was planning to get an infantry rifleman contract (0311), but I fell 3 points short for my GT. Instead, I asked if I could do another job that was in the infantry field, but they said no. My whole life, I grew up having the dream of becoming a United States Marine and also getting rifleman because I knew I would be great at it, and now I can't have it and I might have to stop pursuing the Marine Corps. When my recruiter said that I couldn't get riflmen, I felt down, like my dream had been taking away from me, but I didn't argue that much with him. I ended up picking AAV (1833) because that was the only solid option. Though, I know I'm wasn't guaranteed that job due to me scoring low on the ASVAB, and I felt like my mos would later on change in boot camp to another lower score mos like a desk job which was what scared me the most because I wanted an active job like infantry. I've read online that your mos can change in boot camp, and I didn't want to take that chance, so what did I do? I went to an Army recruiter, and I was 100 percent guaranteed infantryman (11b). The first step to transferring to the Army was to get a discharge from the Marine Corps. Of course, it's my recruiters job to keep me in. He asked me why, and I said because "I wanted infantry." He went on to say,"If you want a branch that will push you to your limits and motivate you to do better, then the Marine Corps is for you, otherwise join the Army because it requires lower standards and a lack of discipline." He also said,"If you join the Marine Corps and ever want to switch to another branch, you won't have to do basic training again, and your rank will remain the same. In the end, he told me to really think about it and to get back to him when my mind was made up. So, where does that leave me? In the middle because I really want to be a Marine because it's been my dream but I also don't want a job that I may not like. On the other hand, I want the Army because I'm guaranteed the job I want and I know I will love it. My overall goal in the military is to be the best of the best, which would mean doing special forces, and I plan on doing more than 20 years, depending if l like the military. I don't know what to do guys. Please help me. I'm 18, btw
I'm in the same situation. Almost went to the USMC but heard army SF gets after it more and sees more deployments/ combat than the Corps. I am apprehensive tho because I hear the army is soft (e.g Emma's story ad). But I wouldn't want to be in the marines and never deploy/ see action since it's peacetime. Nobody is being straight with me, the army or marine recruiter, and can't find info online. Yes someone please give us insight lol, can't decide rn
I’m currently in the DEP, but I’m now starting to think I should join the army before it’s too late. Really the only thing the marines have to offer are the sexy uniforms and the pride of being a marine, but you’re also sacrificing a lot of things the army has to offer such as, air assault, pathfinder school, airborne school, ranger school, and special forces etc. The Marines really don’t have much to offer as much as the army, and they aren’t funded like the army, which means worse equipment and just an overall run down lifestyle. I still love the marines and what they stand for but if you’re looking for a better experience in the United States military I believe the army is the better choice.
These posts made me laugh. I get it. Your young and don’t know. If you are talking about a career (20+yrs), consider MOS that promotes and doesn’t bottle neck between 6 & 12 years in the staff ranks. Want to get paid more??? Well you have to get promoted. Choose the right branch of service for the right reasons and ask the recruiter or some who’s in or recently got out about the promotion and retention rates. FYI there’s a lot on the internet as well nowadays. If you want to be a Marine, join the Corps. Choose an MOS, even something with wheels (AAVs), that’s an added bonus. You still have to go through SOI. Not MCT, completely different If not join the Army, they will be glad to have ya. Join the Corps, take the combat MOS. At the end of the day you are a war fighter. Everyone believes they are going to be a special something!!! Most are dreamers and wouldn’t make it! If you are a bad ass, guess what? There are ways to prove it and lateral move to those special groups. All the best MSgt USMC
@anacondadope550 this is the only comment I've seen to accurately describe how I feel lmao so many questions none of which can be met with a straight answer. So I'm curious did you end up joining and if so which branch did you join ?
I joined the Army and worked with Nukes (Pershing Missile) in the field artillery. I gained a lot of knowledge and frankly the Marines could not replicate the job I selected in the Army. When I went to OCS I selected Military Intelligence. Fun times.

5:37 I agree, and even though you have to do what your superior say I think with the problem with that is that sometimes those in higher rank abuse their power like theres a difference to being a Leader and someone abusing it like they're trying to be a dictator, the I can do no wrong and the what do my superior need so I can get promoted mentality

To take something old Jocko said on his podcast. You shouldn't join a branch or job because of how hard or how cool the training is, it should be because you want to do that job. At the end of the day I'm going to join the army (national guard) because it's what fits my life and what I want to do. Think it through
Does that mean the Marines better?
The 20 year deal isn't offered anymore. Its 401K only now.
I would not recommend marines or Air Force to a recruit due to the smaller budgets and opportunities. I was in the navy long ago. Currently, I am impressed by the opportunities the army offers

I am an old Marine.
100% Agree with you @MattWard
I thought everyday during basic and AIT I wished I had joined the marines due to their professionalism, discipline and high standards.

When I went through Basic in summer 1985 we were told if we did not pass the PT test we would be recycled. That's all I needed to hear and I maxed the pushed ups sit ups and ran my best time ever. It seems the Army is replacing the PT test in Basic with the PC test.
you should always join the marines.
as a former 0341 i totally have no bias here whatsoever.
Going to marine boot camp in a couple months! So pumped!
Best bet is talk to each branches recruiters, and do a ton of research on your own and see what's best for you in your personal situation! Army offered the most for me

Army brother Matt,
I have not heard before today that the Army was considering getting rid of their PFT test in basic training.
Matt I’ve always wanted to join the marines I want a challenge
If you wanted a challenge you’d volunteer for a spec ops units. All initial training, bootcamp included, is designed for you to pass. What do you think is challenging about usmc bootcamp? Is getting yelled at difficult for you? Do you get scared when people yell at you?
Went through basic not long ago , they my have said it went away but it’s definitely still being done
Leaving for marine basic the 15th. just want to say thanks for the videos really good information you are putting out and i bet it helps a lot of people.
@@user-kd8cq6nm5f boot camp or everything since?
If people want to be hardcore in the army, then join the Special Forces, Delta Force, Ranger or Sapper.
Army Ranger school is tougher than U.S. marine boot camp, so if you want to be be hardcore you should still join the army.
I got to Marine Boot in January, a little late for me but nice vid!
How was it?
Marines have a higher floor as far as your lower-tier soldiers go but a lower ceiling cuz the army has Delta, Rangers, and Special Forces and all that
Did you even serve? LOL
If you can't handle the stress(shark attack), and operate under the stress, then what is going to happen when you enter combat.

Happy Wednesday, I still lean on Marine Corps ever since high school.

What’s the point of making basic training any easier if life in your unit is the real challenge. My field training in basic training was a cake walk compared to my unit. Plus the new ACFT is much more demanding than the APFT. So I really wanna know what’s the logic of making tradoc softer

Not MCT, completely different
If not join the Army, they will be glad to have ya.
