      I was just thinking that. I’d like to make sleeves in a pattern like a thermal t shirt (not thermal stitch, that’s too tight). Does anyone have a suggestion for a stitch that would be tight enough but still soft and not clash with the sweater pattern? Thanks.

    Hi Marly and thank you for the Christmas present early. I've always wanted to make a sweater but 1 I'm a very plus size girl and two, I've never successfully finished a garment beside hats and scarves. This one looks simple enough for even me. I usually only crochet afghans and blankets, but this looks pretty easy to follow. It sure takes a lot of yarn so this will be my gift to myself this year. Love the patterns and love Red Heart yarn.

    Ok, so I got excited, my local favorite store to buy yarn had some new yarn, they had the Hygge yarn for $4.68 a skein! Wowsers right, I knew I needed so many skeins but they didn't have that much of the color I wanted so I will go get more when it comes back in ..... Then ..... I noticed it is #5 bulky. I'm a dumbo so now I don't have enough for the cardigan by a lot instead of just 2 skeins that I am short. If it comes in with a different color lot #, I will just have to switch out the skeins back and forth. But I feel like a real duntz not looking at the pattern for the size of yarn I needed, I just knew I needed so many skeins, so now I'm back to waiting. Guess I will do my gauge swatch and see if my hook size needs to go up or down LOL. Ok, so my name is Lani and I'm a dizzhead LOL I just got way so excited about the Hygge yarn and my cardigan.

      I'm going to make decreases on the sleeves and do fp/bp stitches for cuffs and trim around as I'll be making it just below the ankle length and add buttons for roomy warm robe in Dublin colorway.
      I've researched all Waffle stitch patterns and none are done this way and create square boxes. Sorry Marly. This stitch pattern is misnamed. I'm still using it but I'd this stitch pattern. ❤🤔😙

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lynda, the pattern called this the waffle stitch, therefore I called it the waffle stitch.
      Many times a single stitch pattern can have multiple names as they are not standard and a designer can name a stitch pattern pretty much anything they want (not saying that happened here).
      Like you, I've known this stitch to be called moss stitch as well but I have to use the term as written in the pattern.

      are you using a stitch marker in the stitches at all? Using a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row will help you identify where the last stitch of the row when you come back to the stitch marker. You will know that the marked stitch IS the last stitch. I know this video isn't for the stitch used in this cardigan but it shows how I use stitch markers: th-cam.com/video/qVe10Mb0AIY/w-d-xo.html

      Louise Dragne you’re right. The waffle stitch is groups of 4 double crochet turned at different angles to make little bunches. That’s probably a terrible description, but I knew this wasn’t it. Besides, I wouldn’t use this yarn with the waffle stitch. You wouldn’t see the stitch with all the bright colors.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly can't say what the designer was thinking. But my guess is he wanted the trim around the neckline to match the simple sleeves.

    • @gdhhayes2129
      @gdhhayes2129 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can make the sleeves in the same stitch as the body, as per your preference, Also, you can make the length of the sleeves as per your preference. However, if you choose to not decrease the width of the sleeves, they will be wide all the way down. I noted another commenter stated they would do the sleeves in the waffle stitch ending them with a few rows of single crochet, which woukd make for a very nice look.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Margaret,
      I used the term waffle stitch because that is what is on the actual pattern from Red Heart. It is best when teaching videos like to to not confuse the viewer and use the terms as they are used in the pattern. When the crocheter sees the stitch pattern as waffle stitch and looks at the pattern instructions my video will be able to help them complete the stitch pattern no matter the name.
      Funny enough, I actually know this stitch as the moss stitch, and yet you know it as the wobble stitch.
      Like I mentioned to another viewer, stitches often to not have a standard for the name so designers can name them anything they like for the most part (not saying that is what happened here) so we as crocheters need to be careful. We need to always read the instructions in order to really know what stitch the designer wants us to use.
      I hope you enjoyed the video :-)
      xoxo Marly Bird.

    That side of the front that's crooked is still showing itself to be crooked, regardless of the edging that you said would make it disappear. Because the edging had to follow a drunken path, it has more steps/stitches in it.
    Where is the integrity and craftsmanship? Thanks for showing us this, it is lovely design and yarn, but I'm not one of those people to whom you can say something IS when it AIN'T.*
    I wouldn't give that to Goodwill, Salvation Army, I wouldn't give it to a homeless person or family or friend. I would remake it or I would have at least gone back to fill in the spaces on that wonky side so that the edging could come out straight. You said it wouldn't matter, but it does, and it even became more pronounced. You can't block that away. Its brand spanking new, fresh of the hook and that side looks stretched out and already hanging unevenly.
    *ain't is a colloquial derivation of isn't not aren't as is errantlly taught, so this is correct though archaic usage, just in case you thought to call me on it.

    THEY'RE (the parentheses, that is) pronounced "parentheSEEZ". You don't say "licen" for license (lie + sense). Or do you?

      Maybe my pronunciation wasn’t clear but I do know how to say parentheses.
      Again, thank you for taking the time to correct me. You’re really educating me tonight.
      Merry Christmas.
