The Rode Wireless GO for Music | Is It Any Good?

  • Hello, beautiful people!
Through this video, I shared my opinion about the Rode Wireless Go which I think is excellent for its price. If the built quality was any better than what it is now, It should have been priced at more than $300, LoL. This mic is the perfect solution to those of you who want to go wireless and aim for simplicity. Just put it in your camera bag, turn the transceiver and receiver on, and GO :)

You can indeed use it for music. In fact, you can attach the receiver to a VXLR+ and bang it through a PA system. To get good sound from the guitar and vocals, you would be better served using a sticky pad, attach the transmitter to the guitar and angle the mic towards your face. It's a setup suited to acoustic gigs, outdoors, behind the speakers....but it does work

Can you also attach the device to the soundhole of the guitar? You might prolly get better sound quality for those who play only instrumental music.

You sold me bro... On your music career! Jk but you did sound quite good and convinced me the Rode Go works well and especially in that placement between voice and acoustic guitar you devised. So I'm even more excited to get the Rode wireless Go II for its primary video production purpose and now the music potential as well! Well done and thank you!

I think it’s great for anything related to speaking but I’m in no way happy with the audio quality it produces for recording music. It made the guitar sound slightly distorted just at this light level of playing, so I would hate to imagine the amount of distortion you would get from playing anything that is really intense, like rock music, which is more in line with what I play. I am still trying to see if this would be a good fit for me because I’d like to have a good clean on the go recording mic, so maybe another rhode mic would work better for me.

Hey there! Thank you for doing a music testing! Have you tried to use the Wireless Go II for music as well? I’m wondering if I should get the Wireless go II so I can have one mic for my vocals, another one that link to a shotgun mic for my guitar! I’m really curious about it :)

  • @harrysavageiii1864

I would be using it for online virtual zumba class. So I would be considering a lav or that. I hope it would work ok with me using my bluetooth speaker. That can be heard decently with the webcam mic .But I know this would be alot better. I would try to clip it to my pocket of course . The shirt thing wouldn't look good with me trying to dance. And I have been hearing people have been using these for fitness classes. But we dont talk the whole time with zumba like with yoga. Mainly after class and the intro which isnt really needed for virtual.

OK, this FINALLY is what I needed to know.
    A) how does it work with a stringed instrument playing. I play uke and sing.
    B) can you use ANY lav mic? And you say, yes! Because I am not buying a Rode lav mic!
Sounds great! Might be perfect for my set up!
    Thank you!!!

    • @dalbermatianman

Hi, Mia! Thks for your kind feedback:)
      To answer your question:
      A. I would say that you CAN, but the result won’t be the best.. I think the mic is best when it captures spoken words, not musical instruments.. I hv tried recording guitar tracks with it, it does not sound the best BUT it is awesome to record your live performance (Just put the built in mic closer to your mouth than it is to your uke) Just like the video sample I made in this video.
      B. Yes, you can use any brand of LAV, just make sure that the LAV you are using uses TRS (2 rings) not TRRS (3 rings) because the transmitter uses TRS input.. If You already own a LAV that is TRRS, you are required to get an adapter (TRRS to TRS)
Hope this helps! Happy New Year!

@@aiyarose I think it works pretty well. I've done it with a cheaper Boya lav mic attached too. When I'm lazy, I just use my Android phone which does do video and audio pretty darn well. But when I know I'm going to be in a weird situation, I go to the Rode.

I do. Depends on why you want to do that. I work outside, a lot, so I simply want something I can attach to whatever instrument I'm playing, so it captures the instrument and the vocals, turn it on and start. I've got a Street Cube EX, which runs on batteries, and my desired setup is one I can get up and running, and packed away, in 60 seconds. Not sure if that's ideal for everyone, or every purpose, but you can do it, and you can have a reasonable experience

    • @naturestone3148
      @naturestone3148 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mysteriomonkie Good to know. 😊 I use a Roland AC Mobile with SM58 & my Westernguitar. Let's be honest: It would be crazy to sacrifice a legendary live mic for the Rode Wireless Go. Have you busked with that setup already and how good was the sound especially of your vocals with the reverb on - compared to your cabled mic before? For me I found a solution. A wireless xlr-adapter for the sm 58 and receiver into the mic input of my Rolandamp. So i keep the good sound of my mic and don't need the cable anymore. ☝️ For my guitar i could use a cheaper wireless system. Why? Well...it's obvious that Rode is not convinced that their Rode Wireless Go is good enough for music or singing...So i'd rather try a single wireless system without recording option.
Maybe as a fellow streetmusician it's interesting for you to know how i record my "outdoorsessions". I put my Zoom Stereomic on a little Tripod about 30,40 cm away from my Roland AC Mobile. Since the Zoom-Mic has an build in limiter clipping is not an issue...but an amazing professional sounding stereo-audiorecording of my buskingsession is a very positive issue & result! ☝️💪🙏❤ Ofcourse much more detailed as a Rode Wireless Go Mono-Mic could ever record. 🤗
