  • The Bancroft Gemboree is Canada's largest rock and gem show, with the usual focus on emerging mineral deposits, 2018 seeming to focus heavily on yellow apatite from Durango Mexico and various aquamarine deposits.

My cottage is 15 minutes outside of Bancroft, gets pretty crazy in town during the Rockhound Gemboree. Unfortunately the Craftsman Restaurant closed a couple of years ago, I used to stop there all the time.

My question, where would you find flint deposits in Ontario, not chert.

Unrelated to the Gem show, however just a friendly fyi, they have started to dig up the Montorose occurrence, I was there today and found several nice crystals that the lovely bulldozers piled...

I wanted to go to go the gemboree this year but I was sadly out of province! At least I got my rockhounding fix on a trip to Partridge Island, NS and came home with a big bucket of agates hahaha

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting. Also nice to see the area and Maynooth. I used to live on Hwy #127 near Whitney. I miss my house.

xD The guy with the Herkimers cracked me up! "I'm a miner, I don't know what sphalerite is!" You're obviously not a silver, lead or zinc miner! But that galena sphalerite specimen for $12 and the gemmy yellows at $5 apiece were fantastic scores! Thanks for posting!

I planned on going this year (took my daughter and grandson last year) but we ended up going to Tyendinaga Caves. They enjoyed the coolness of the caves while I boiled in the sun with my dog. SAD.
