    A neighbour offered me one of these machines today and I jumped at the opportunity as I’m hoping to learn how to sew (having never used a sewing machine before). This video (and I’m sure the next ones too) is already really helpful so I know what to look for and what to expect. Thank you so much!

    Beautiful videos, I recommend you keep showing us these wonderful SINGER machines because I love them! They are jewels of technique and engineering as well as being aesthetically wonderful ... When a person begins to use these machines for their creations, he falls in love with them more every day, because he discovers that those who designed and thought them, have not left nothing to chance but has thought of every little detail both technical and aesthetic, on how to meet users' needs as much as possible and how to facilitate sewing operations ... In fact, with these machines you sew very well, because you can see very well the needle area also, the oblique needle, allows excellent penetration of the latter into the fabric ... I love the magic coil, because you are not forced every time you have to rewind it, having to remove it from the hook and then insert it into the reel and remove the upper thread of the whole machine, perhaps while you are half of a seam or a job ... SINGER consider it the only real sewing machine in the world, is if mpre was the most sold, the most famous, the most reliable, the most advanced and is also the oldest. This company created unique machines that nobody could imitate, invented the world's first fully electronic sewing machine, the Futura 1000 and Athena 2000 in 1975! If SINGER had not existed, the other machines would not have existed as well, because when the other sewing machine companies were born, which were born later, the food was ready, SINGER having invented the first machines with the automatic transport of the brands already in 1851, while the other machine prototypes had to drag the fabric by hand every time the needle penetrated the latter .... The other companies have imitated SINGER even if they have not been able to imitate it completely ....

    I’m glad I,m not the only one who wonders about who owned the machines I now have. I find looking at the wound bobbins really fascinating, they often have a multitude of colours wound on the same one unravelling them is like an archeological adventure.,often the colours are vibrant and I try to imagine what might have been sewn with them.

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom 🤗🇮🇪

    Noise from my basting stitch mechanism was my problem even when it was not dialled for basting stitch.
    Funny last week I went in the car 85miles to buy another 760.
    The spanner needed to adjust the basting needle bard disengage is a bit of a pain to get to.
    I did reinforce the plastic bobbin winding cam that had started to split like yours, I used some soft wire and made something similar to a jubilee clip action.
    all the best

    I've just re-connected with my old 760. I parked it up because it wasn't stitching well. So I'm trying to rectify it now so thank you for these videos. The one problem mine has is the longest stitch length isn't very long and the tension dial can't deliver any kind of decent stitch above 3. Which of your videos would be best for this issue? Or can you offer some advice I love this mahcine. Thank you from S Wales UK

    i know my Kenmore 158.17033 cost about a month's wages for a laborer backing 1974 when it was sold. it has the original Sears price tag, $395.00 on it. and that price wouldn't have included the accessories or table if one were purchased with it. most of these machines were purchased on in store credit systems from what an retired Sears salesman told me. They had options from $150ish to $$600ish in 1970s US dollars.

    Thanks for the videos! Helped me get my bobbin working! I also have a 760, but with a cracked pattern gear. Wondering if you have any ideas on how to repair it? I could not find any replacements online. It's a grey gear (below the pattern wheels) with slightly angled teeth that mesh with the main drive shaft. The crack causes the pattern to be ignored when it hits that part of the gear, or even jam the machine.

      @@InStitches Thanks for the reply. My sister do not live nearby. She love the 726 and use it regularly, and its possibility to sew chain stitch for seam trials and use it to make one time zippers. I helped her by distance about 5 years ago. It seemed that a capacitor was blown near the motor (i was told afterwords). I instructed her to get help from a motor electric service shop, because I estimated, that they normally will know a bit more of electrical motors than a sewing machine shop. And they helped her well.

    What do you think about rubber feed dogs? Are they inferior to metal ones? I'm noob to sewing and got me an used but in good condition futura 1000 - it's about 80% same as these series - touch and sew, but I'm under impression that it needs too much guiding fabric by hand (for straight line stitching), especially when working closer to the edge of fabric.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the idea of the rubber feed dogs is a good one, especially to protect delicate fabrics. In my experience, if the feed dogs are quite worn, they seem to lose grip and I find they slip if the fabric is held back even slightly. I'm yet to try new reproduction feed dogs on one of my 700 series machines.

    Is there locations on this machine or the Singer Student models where we need to use sewing lubricant (thicker grease) as opposed to oil?
    I watched a video a while ago (cant find it), that said there's a difference between locations for lubricant and those for oil. I thought lubricant was for the metal on metal gears? I have had a 760 for 50 years, given to me by a very generous boyfriend, whom
    I married, and l have never had the heart to say how much l hate this machine! It will only stitch cotton, and then only on a good day. The bobbin endlessly snarls up, as soon as l start stitching. Occasionally it will behave itself and run well, but today, helping my daughter out; stitching some stretchy fabric, and it has started all over again. My machine is now useless and despite my attempts to change the thread, needle and material l cannot get it to stitch. It snags up in a pile of mess underneath. My thought is that it is the spool, the infuriating spool, which undoes. I think it weakens and expands. I always wind by hand because l found that was the only way to I make it work. If anyone has any ideas please say. I even worked for Singer long ago and they were as mystified as me. It’s a one off.
