I camped out over night on Parliament Square. I often think back to the scene during this hymn. It was such a moment. Two women in the crowd were singing a harmony over the singing that was coming from the Abbey & was being broadcast on speakers above us. We were all standing in what is usually one of the busiest parts of London, in perfect silence, listening to this moving hymn. I think we were all just trying to grasp the enormity of what had happened - one of our greatest ever monarchs had passed away. It was really beautiful.
I’m American raised Presbyterian and my mother was pipe organist at our church. I know this song well. At the end, is what is called a descant, it’s an added higher pitch usually soprano, that is sung in between other normal notes. In choir, it was my most favorite thing to sing. It is absolutely ethereal. Since we are so beneath Heaven’s glory, we must need to be changed to enter it’s majesty or we could not in human form, endure it. Glorious.🕊🌹
@@DelticRon I love Methodists, very similar to ours! Her older sister was Methodist and played the organ for her church in Griffin, GA. I have two of my moms hymnals, one has a lot of missing pages where the book wouldn’t stay open so she would tear out the page 😄 so it would lay flat. Later they got her one with ring binders still, she preferred flat. Because with an organ she had two keyboards, foot pedals, plus stops, all kinds of sound pulls, she had to turn pages fast! I was so young when she started I don’t think I truly appreciated her skills until after she passed. I have her music … good memory.☺️🙋🏻♀️
Thank you for your explanation of descant. I first noticed that when listening to a version of Abide With Me (which I am sorry the Queen hadn't selected for her funeral).
The music and words of the hymns chosen by Her Majesty for her own funeral and committal service were beautiful and were from all corners of her United Kingdom. Listening to the words, Her Majesty tells us that life moves on, nothing lasts forever, we leave this world as we arrived and all crowns and kingdoms eventually come to an end apart for the Kingdom of Heaven. Our beloved Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's passing leaves a massive hole in hearts all around the world, she may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. May God's angels keep her safe for eternity.
Absolutely magnificent. Beautifully sung by the choir of Westminster Abbey as only they do. A fitting send off to our most high & mighty Monarch The late Queen Elizabeth II. May Her Majesty Rest In Eternal Peace. 🇬🇧👑🇬🇧✝️🙏🏼🕊.

A wonderful hymn by Wesley that speaks of the wonder and greatness of God in our salvation. May this be so for the Queen. The way it was orchestrated for this service with the incredible descant and majestic trumpets in the final really is a foretaste of heaven for all those who believe in Christ

What a beautiful and wonderful melody - I have sung it on so many conferences and gatherings before! Today I realized how much I miss the english hymns ...
Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heav’n, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art. Visit us with thy salvation; enter ev'ry trembling heart. Come, Almighty, to deliver, let us all thy life receive. Suddenly return, and never, nevermore they temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray, and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. Finish, then, thy new creation; true and spotless let us be. Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee. Changed from glory into glory, till in heav’n we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love and praise.

Can’t beat a good Welsh hymn tune Blaenwern is a Welsh Christian hymn tune composed by William Penfro Rowlands (1860-1937), during the Welsh revival of 1904-1905. It was first published in Henry H. Jones' Cân a Moliant (1915). The tune is named after Blaenwern Farm near Tufton, Pembrokeshire, where Rowlands sent his son from Porth to stay with friends of the family to convalesce as it was thought the fresh air would assist his recovery: he named the tune in honour of them.
As a cradle Methodist, this Charles Wesley hymn is one of my favorites. I have really become fond of this musical setting. The singing here is what heaven will be like: “til we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise”.
