    Hi Willie,
    I have wifi issues in a 2 floor building and have just purchased 2 x AC pro units,
    The broadband is minimum 23mbps - 39mbps however we could have 50 clients connected at anyone time ! Can you advise the best way to set up the ac pro system.
    Cheers..

    SOS Willie: power or internet interruption farks the system
    Controlled via Win 10 PC 2 older UAPs powered by POE wall adapters.
    After power or internet interruption APs get stuck at "adoption failed"
    Tried with DHCP and then both static IPs are set outside the DHCP range of the ISP router
    Uplink Connectivity Monitor and SSH authentication are both disabled
    Only a factory reset gets them up and running
    These MIGHT have been working properly before ISP switched router and bypassing the Edge Max POE 5 router and owner isn't inclined to invest in new equipment since ISP provides one free wifi extender and aftermarket extenders aren't too expensive. When these first fell into my hands, a firmware was suggested and I accepted. (Bad idea?)
    There is one other UAP at the home that I assume hasn't been updated but I have no idea what controls it or how to see its Firmware version. If I unplug the ethernet cable, that one unit comes right back on line.
    UPS won't solve th problem since even the internet blipping off will disrupt the system requiring factory reset.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Willie, I have watched many of your videos, and I really enjoy them, highly informative and well presented. I never got to write you a "Thank you" note, until now.
    So thanks a bunch, for using so many of your private hours and doing this! This series with best practices are going to be epic :)

    Nice video on a great topic. Seems like a video on the neat things possible with a Unifi controler and a synology NAS. How to automate backups and write out the syslogs for starters. I tried to set the synology up for the syslogs and enable remote logging and ran into issues. The unifi forum had a discussion on this topic that is fearsome... Splunk and all manner of scripting to get something useable. Is it possible to save out logs automatically to the NAS that a normal human can read? Logs for the controller and the APs? Or is it the case that for a small setup, the syslogs are much more trouble than they are worth? I am leaving the remote Syslog server turned off for now. I would love to automate storage of the backups on synology.

    I'm new to Unifi also. Just got a USG for cheap to try it out, but i want to get the USG pro rackmount unit. When bundling this with Ubuquity switches and other devices, do you manage them with the USG pro or software running on your server in a dedicated vm ( ie Ubuntu )

    Hi Willie, UniFi Best Practices is great to get started. In this you leave your installation untagged. During other videos you mention Management VLAN. Can you do a video about this and the tricks you'd have to do regarding the AP?

    I have been watching your videos for about a year, I have to say this is a really good reference video for setting up a new network. However, this may come as a bit of a compliment, but on my home network (which is all UniFi) I tend to implement whatever I learn in a video from you and have been piecing together my own best practices list. I had hit on all the points you covered in this video. Will you do a video on Guest Portal usage? I use Spotipo and like that.

    FYI, I host my controller using a DreamCompute instance and I keep my logs/autobackups on a separate volume that I mount to /var so its easy to rebuild my VM.

    Yes, this multi-part series could go on forever, as long as Ubiquity keeps updating the Unifi software -- well at least until the sun enters the red giant phase and expands to consume the earth 5 billion years from now

    What is the best way to update firmware to all of the devices on the network? What sequence do you use?

    • @MooseTurder
      @MooseTurder 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Davis Fire & Security generally I look at the topography and do the updates from the far end (wireless uplinked AP), then wired AP, then switches., then USG. My sites are small and short down time isn't as issue for me.

  • @Incoming007
    @Incoming007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Willie, love the videos I was wondering if the list that you're checking off you could do a link to so that everyone could kind of see what they are doing and keep up with or maybe add to?

    • @Incoming007
      @Incoming007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Willie Howe no problem I'll have to type one out. But if I was to start off the list although at this point it is kind of late I would say that a person needs to draw out the network and start to understand what the future may hold so they can plan accordingly.

    why did unifi controller 5.6.36 come out after 5.7.20?

    • @MooseTurder
      @MooseTurder 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gordon B the 5.6 branch is the long term support controller that is feature locked, and is for 1st Gen devices. 5.7.x is the current controller for 2nd and 3rd Gen devices (uap-ac-lite/lr /pro /m / etc, and HD she nanohd)
