    Junior was one of the best characters on the show. His weaknesses are what made him interesting, and much more based on the realities of human nature, than the glorified images we have of most gangsters.

    2:25 is a testament to the writers and their use of words within the dialogue. I remember this episode and looked up what a Ghibelline was. Basically a member of the aristocracy in Northern Italy that supported the Holy Roman emperor (German) and contributed to the strife of the citizens in Northern Italy. It shows that Junior knows his history and used a term from that history to describe an outsider that the crew didn't initially respect.

    • @alihandemiral7049
      @alihandemiral7049 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is actually the opposite in my opinion. He probably only picked the term Ghibelline up because someone else used it talking to him before. Remember the first season when he didn't even know who Augustus Ceasar (Octavian) was? He asks Tony, "is that the one they stabbed in the back?" Which clearly shows he has no idea about Roman history. If you don't know who Octavian is, which is a beginner history thing for anyone claiming to be of Italian heritage, i don't think you know your history at all.

    • @JL-rx7ou
      @JL-rx7ou ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alihandemiral7049 this is a different time period he said Holy Roman Empire. And has nothing to do with the Roman Empire. So Jr not knowing Roman history doesn’t mean he doesn’t know any other period of history after that

      @@JL-rx7ou While it's true that actual historians do specialize in various fields and subfields, cultures and periods, Augustus and Julius Caesar are grade school history. Not evening having a surface-level understanding of either speaks toward a lack of interest in history in general.

    Even Nicole Machiavelli wasn't Machiavellian. Junior reminds me of Nicolo, a failed public official who could write a book on power and strategies. Nicolo died in poverty and retired into obscurity, somewhat like we see Junior.

    I didn't like how Junior was portrayed in Many Saints, because I think his insight to the game was unparalleled in the the Sopranos. Also, is it fair to call him insecure if he was actually right about being undermined by the captains, and their crew i.e. Brendan and Chris? He was just super old school, and some of the shit that went on in the family wouldn't have cut it in his day, as we saw when he in principle agreed with Johnny Sack's beef with Ralph. He was by far my favourite character in the Sopranos.

    • @Ryan-ts9pi

    Like this video. Will be catching up with the rest as I just finished the series for the second time (Haven't watched it since it originally aired...I was sixteen when it ended so this second watch through was a lot more thought provoking). So many people in show who's motives and tactics are questionable in the loyalty department, but each one of them with glaring flaw in character or reasoning made it such a great second watch. You captured Junior perfectly, enough wisdom and clout due to being round the block a few times, but his insecurities around his self-image and frustration at playing second fiddle for so long really did take him out the running for boss. Will be subbing and watching the rest in the background while I work from home.

    Even though we all truly know that Junior was the one that didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete... He could have gone places had he not had such insecurity problems. And he doubted himself frequently. I mean Jesus Christ he would go to Livia for advice.
    He had the capability of maintaining a cool head I mean we saw him do it plenty of times throughout all six seasons.
    He definitely had the aura about him of being somebody way up the food chain in organized crime.
    He also had plenty of influence on others in New York at one point.
    But his insecurities and The sopranos selfishness and The sopranos righteousness prevented him from truly ever becoming the actual boss. He only obtained it in name only and he's the one that the feds were targeting.
    Had he been paying more attention and had he been better to all the crews in general... He would have known a lot more than he did. He got what was coming to him at the end. Dying a lonely old man not remembering shit only coming in and out of it from time to time.
    I'm trying to find the 48 laws of power numbers 10 through whatever but I only can find the first nine... Are there more than that that have been produced by you?
    At any rate thanks again for a wonderful video. As always they are all very well thought out and executed. 🔥🇺🇸
