  • Getting wires from the front of the Defender to the back is a pain - but going under the bodywork is a joy!
    If you have a pre 2005 Land Rover problem and do not know how to fix it, drop me a line! Maybe I can help!

      Yeap that works, but the key is getting the wire to the fuse box or dash - by sticking in a Disco grommet in the bulkhead, you can pass wires safely.

    excellent idea, when I see that much spaghetti I tend to panic.

    I used a Raptor panel on my Defender steel much stronger than plastic.

    Is this vehicle still a 24v? I'm working on my TUM Wolf...but I'm a bit puzzled on how to properly wire a 24v radio into it using a ISO harness.

    Hi,I'm loving your videos on 300tdis, I'm currently restoring a 1997 90. Have you any advice on fitting a discovery 300tdi in a defender please? I have no engine loom connector plugs (have been cut)and the wires are different colours. Thanks, Matt.

      If you are fitting into a 97 90, you may have an alarm system fitted - this can be the reason the colours are different
      When you say the plug is cut - from what end - main harness or engine harness?

      @@BritannicaRestorations Hi and many thanks for your help. So,I purchased a 300tdi engine from a breakers,they cut the plug off for the engine loom connection🙄. The bulkhead loom connection also has no plug, I purchased a dismantled project vehicle so this is what I inherited unfortunately. I basically have two bunches of wires i need to connect together.

      On the bulkhead main loom, are there any black wires in the part that goes to the engine?

    • @TheTiki72
      @TheTiki72 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BritannicaRestorations yes,I believe there are around two or three black wires.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These come from the alarm system - one black one is for the starter solenoid and the other for the injector pump solenoid
      You need to find a Defender 300Tdi engine harness from a non alarm system or modify the Disco one and make your own plugs - the wiring is very simple and follow the BS-AU7 codes

    Good afternoon,
    Hope you are well,my name is Matt and I hope you don't mind me emailing you?I did message you on one of your TH-cam videos a few months back regarding my defender 300tdi 1997.
    I purchased the vehicle as a bare chassis and a pile of parts,it was cheap (£700) so I thought i would restore/rebuild it.The original engine was a 300tdi but It came with a V8 in bits which the last guy planned to fit in it,it didn't fit with my plans so i sold it and purchased a used 300tdi engine from a discovery. I have the original bulkhead loom but this has had the engine plugs removed for some reason. Would you have any tips on marrying the two looms together please? This really is giving me a headache. The colours dont match up but are they supposed to? I believe the original vehicle had an alarm fitted and the replacement engine has an egr. If i have to buy a new engine loom i will,but if I can get away with using the discovery loom all the better and i can use the money saved elsewhere.
    Many thanks for any advice and keep up the great videos.
    Kind regards,Matt.

      The wiring for the engine is pretty straightforwards
      Large brown wire to the alternator +
      Small brown/yellow to the alternator charge warning connector
      White wire to the injector pump solenoid
      Small green/blue to the coolant sensor
      small white /brown to the oil pressure switch
      The starter motor solenoid could be a brown with a red tracer or a white with a red tracer
      IF the harness had a bunch of black wires going to the starter and injector pump, then the vehicle has a security system fitted
      If you no longer need this system then you can bypass this by taking a white feed off the ignition switch to the pump solenoid and find the starter relay in the fuse box and take a wire from the relay to the starter solenoid ( it will be opposite a large brown wire and the relay will have a small white/red trace wire in the relay plug

      @@BritannicaRestorations that's great thank you. I think there is quite possibly some existing alarm wires(black). Unfortunately when the last guy stripped it out he amazingly didn't bother labelling anything at all🙄. I will have a look this evening when I get home ans let you know. Would you have any way i could send you a picture of the wiring?Many thanks again, really appreciate your advice 👍

    Hello Mike, you mentioned putting the hazards switch on the mud console. Do you use the original LR type of hazard switch or another Carling type switch as the original switch has the wiring for the indicators as part of the switch.
    Just asking as I bought a set of Carling switches that all matched to fit in my raptor engineering center console, but had to use the original switch as the replacement didn't allow for the indicators wiring. So it looked a little out of place. Do you know of a way around that? Cheers

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have used both types of switch with no problems - you do need the red Carling hazard switch

      Don't forget to buy the plug that goes on the back of the switch - I do not know if you have them installed already, but as there are so many wires I never put the wires direct to the switch - use one of these
