    Thanks for the reply. I hope that I have ruled out the risk of further short since I have installed new taillights. The old taillights had a metal loop which was badly rusted, one tail light plastic has melted a place where it has been in contact with the metal circuit. The previous owner must have done something creative installation of extra lights when the red / orange wire has been cut from the connector in both lamps. I have attached the cable back into position in the circuit by cutting the portion of the metal circuit of the conduit having its normal place and poke the wire on with a normal socket.

      Does anyone know how to replace the wires coming from the fuse box to the battery on a 1996 landrover discovery?

    Another super video Chris thanks, that LDV looks like a rats nest, how you figured out all that wiring is beyond me

      Dave, it took a a while to work out what was going on with it, Learned how it worked when it wouldn't start or give any power. I might take out most of the wiring and start again but it wouldn't be so much fun then

    Could you supply a wiring PDF for the 1990 Discovery 200 Tdi? Thanks

    Hi Chris...did the LDV start life as an ambulance with all that wiring???

      nickjaxe....Yes it was in service with the London Ambulance service. Used to have a Rover V8 3.5 with ZF auto gearbox before I got it and put a 200tdi into it ...

    I have a 99 disco 2 it keeps burning through batteries three already! It's been converted to coil non secondary air idk if prior owners had it flashed to reset computer or if pump is faulty?? Is there any pointers you can give me I'd sure appreciate it

    I have a 99 D2 with a V8 US spec. It has the problems with the dual sunroofs that leak. The problem I'm dealing with is the odometer is blinking and the wipers run on their own. Could it be a bad fuse box?

    This is my living nightmare... I bloody hate wiring! I really could learn a lot of a series of vids on the subject...

      Electrics just take patience learning. TBH I do not know that much. Just enough to get out of trouble and wire things in professionally.

    I see you testing those heavy fuses for voltage drop . Am I right in saying that there needs to be current present for there to be voltage drop? After all you are checking for high resistance surely.

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I just found your comment appeared in spam for some reason. Voltage drop yes this is done to see if there is resistance / corrosion or faulty component in a circuit you are testing. We are not doing this here but as a valid point it needs to be address to check for resistance either on the positive , negative or consumer unit. Now you have reminded me of this then it is a video that will appear soon.

    before checking i disconnected my positive first and shorted out my circuit to ground. Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi, i wonder if you can help me with a starting problem on my 300 tdi range rover classic. With the key inserted, the sign lights come on, the sign for the hot plugs go off but when you turn the key it simply clicks on the relay near the glove compartiment but the motor doesn,t start. Normaly, if you wait a bit, sometimes 5 min, sometimes 20/40min, and simply turn the key it starts like a brand new car. The batery is brand new. Is this situation new to you? Thank's, João

      Common issue from what I gather, dealing with the same thing right now. I’m almost tempted to set it on fire and let it burn to the ground.

    Hi! I have a 2003 Land Rover Freelander SE. After being run for a while and turned off, if try to turn back on; it will not. After a while, the car will turn on. They say it's possibly the crankshaft position sensor. I have looked at many pictures and diagrams but I have not been able to locate it. Is it possible for you to show me where it is, make a short video as to where is located, or a step by step with pictures, it would be appreciated very much. If you think it's not this sensor, maybe you can point me in the correct direction.

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it may be the heat sink effect on the crank position sensor. Possibly a video will take longer to make that the time you'd like to wait A simple google search will show you were it is positioned.

    Help, I have a 2002 Land Rover Freelander, with an electrical problem it wont start after I drive it and park it until approx, 3 hours later, it wont do it every time.

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an odd thing happens to the crank position sensor when it is hot. Because when you park your car the heat rises, it will then effect the sensor. Until it cools down it won't work to give a signal for the engine ECU. THis is one probable solution to the problem and I have seen and repaired cars that have suffered from this. Is there any DTCs to read in the ECU memory to confirm what I have just said?

    Hi, i have a 2010 Autobiography Range Rover, tried to start this morning and she wouldn't. Dash board went mad flashing from this to that, have no clue just love driving it. Can anyone help please??

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not be able to help from this distance? Have you thought about calling out a mechanic to get you out of trouble? Loom on the RR corrodes at the plug end and causes that sort of problem and so does the loss of an earth to the ECU. Other than that without looking at it you are just requiring me to guess from here which i am not prepared to do, Sorry.

    Does anyone know what is the reason for our Land Rover Discovery V8 1998 is not light on one side of the car when the fuse blows. In my logic there should not be any light at all when the fuse is blown.
    British cars have soul ... and a very large herd of demons hehe

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      not wrong about being posesssed but lets look at it scientifically as we are in the 21st century and not the early 13th. Okay, if a fuse blows and the light goes out then you have a short to earth. This means that there is a power supply wire / live wire touching directly to earth and not going through the consumer unit ( lights) then to earth. Fuse is to protect the wiring from burning out. You could put a consumer unit in place of the fuse ( a headlight bulb or buzzer wired and connected where the fuse would be) and check to see by wiggling wires when the test light bulb goes out meaning you have interrupted the earth made by the short. I will be making a video on this subject soon if the text is not clear enough. ( it is called the wiggle test)
