A friend who used to work on the Grateful Dead crew recommended HOSA to me in 2001. I have never regretted buying a Hosa product. They even made a rack-mount, 1/4-inch patch bay which has held up well.
Another friend, and former bandmate, worked for a few years as an audio engineer/tech for a commercial sound installation company around 1980(?). He assembled a collection of audio adapters and connectors for almost every kind of audio interface at the time. He filled up a medium-sized tackle box with all those adapters.
A tackle box is a great solution for that! Thanks for the great comment,

Thanks Justin. This video is soooo true! I do online corporate training and I would like to add two comments. (1). I bought a $60 Sennheiser Bluetooth transmitter and I use it so much. (2) The first thing that you plug into the UPS is the WiFi router!

I have all the cables and adapters that you mentioned, however only use the XLR to 1/4” impedance transformers when sound quality is not critical.
For digital, other adapters in my rig are 75 ohm to 110 ohm (and vice versa) impedance transformers for SPDIF to AES/EBU. These transformers typically have XLR on one end and BNC on the other, so I also have BNC-male to RCA-female adapters so I can use 75 ohm RCA to RCA cables for SPDIF
Hi Justin, the weirdest cable I've ever seen was on stage, it was a power cable from 30 cm long, and on both sides the same AC plug, like the end you put in your power outlet at home. I took it away for safety concerns, and put a new cable straight to power input from the gear, they used the daisy-chaining output as input. Very dangerous, and not recommended ever. But when I saw this, I got cold chills all over my body. It was a Pulsar analog dim pack. So this is from long ago. 😅 PS: I make my splitters/ Special cables my self, only adapters I buy, because they are that cheap that it's a waste of time to solder these. And I have a special case, where I put these things in, and goes first in the van to be sure we don't forget it. But these days, we don't travel much anymore with analog cables, We have stacks with CAT7 network cables and a big Dante Network, for the road and for the studio. One case with old CAT7 and another with new CAT cables. Because if there is a rogue cat cable, it goes straight into the trash bin.
Priceless info. I’ve got a box of tricks with adapters , Y cables etc. You never know when they will come in handy and save the day
YES! The box (or bag) of weird cables and adapters is a MUST. I've had mine for like 20+ years now, and it just keeps getting fuller...

@@SonicScoop I’ve still got a couple of 1/4 jack adapters from the 1980s that are always close by. Now I’m showing my age 🤣
Just a week ago I was in a situation when I needed mini-XLR to XLR adapter but then in order to get 3 V phantom power I also used XLR-to-TRS adapter into TRS-to-1/8 inch TRS adapter.
I have tons of splitters and adapters I had frequent buyer miles at radio shack before they closed the doors and the one thing I learned in my two weeks in the Boy Scouts is ALWAYS BE PREPARED 😅
I just bought 2 Hosa dual male 1/4" to single female 1/8" adapters and a 20' 1/8" cable extension for mixer out to headphones so I can walk farther to adjust mics and for the artists overdubs. Stop the madness, buy some of these things!
XLR gender changers have come in clutch for me several times in live situations.
