    I have had IBS with depression for decades and peppermint oil is my go to pill for when I feel pain and over fullness starting. It immediately helps. But if I wait too long or maybe it's a worse episode it doesn't work and I still end up with cramps worse than labor pains until I have diarrhea which ends the pain. Luckily for me I usually only have one episode of diarrhea and feel much better afterwards rather than multiple trips to the bathroom. Although I have had experiences where I had diarrhea after eating anything for about a week and that was terrible to deal with.

    Please confirm that “abdomen” and “pelvic” areas are NOT the same. At the 42 min. point, Dr Ford states “abdominal pain is a cardinal symptom, so you have to have abdominal pain to meet criteria for IBS”. During my first/only consultation for my 1st colonoscopy, I let the Gastroenterologist know that following a laparoscopic appendectomy 1 year ago, I began suffering with 1 issue only, that is with chronic, nighttime pelvic pain when lying on either side, localized over my bladder/uterus. In this 20 minute consultation, with no other medical history or in-take form, he diagnosed me with IBS and prescribed the antispasmodic Pinaverium Bromide 100mg 3x/day.

    Amytriptilene (sp?) is an anticholinergic drug and long-term use of it (over thre months) has been implicated in developing dementia. Why was this not discussed here?

      1. Used in low doses
      2. For those who benefit, a small increased risk in developing dementia is an acceptable risk to take. But the doses used are really quite tiny.

      AND withdrawing from this drug can be WORSE than the IBS. I know because it happened to me! Now I have IBS + antidepressant withdrawal. Thanks doc.

    Ive been on the low fodmap for 3 months now although unintentionally ive had some moderate to high fodmap ingredients in my food that i recognized later. Cant say ive expanded too much in introducing more yet besides introducing more low fodmaps lol. Still have bloating & distention but perhaps more time will tell. Someone thats 6'6" 150lbs its tough to get 3 meals & good snacks in between a day for weight gain when i have ibs & diverticulosis feeling overly stuffed & then not making a deposit in the bowl. I also have hypothyroid which may be causing me to feel so weak after only a 20min walk due to lack of b12 absorption so im gona start taking that soon. I have been on the lacto bifido blend for 2 weeks & noticed more bulk & back to normal color so pleased about that & hope it continues 👍

      Try physicians choice digestive enzymes with prebiotics and probiotics. Or California Gold digestive enzymes. You might not be able to handle the prebiotics yet. Digestive enzymes helped me a lot. And saccharomyces boulardii probiotics (the fermented food bacteria) is also incredibly helpful.

      I’m sorry you’re suffering, but it sounds like you’re making some good progress on the plus side. These conditions are very complex and can be difficult to treat, but healing is very possible. Sometimes it takes sticking to a diet or protocol for longer than you might expect. It sounds like you’re seeing at least some positive change, and I’m happy to hear that.

    I first started taking probiotics 2 months ago for constipation. Up until the one month mark it was truly amazing. However, as time progressed I found it less and less effective. Is this normal? Would I need to up the CFUs?

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling like they’re less effective now. It’s hard to say without knowing more. What kind of probiotics are you using? What strains, and also what type - refrigerated, unrefrigerated? Not saying this is the issue, but it’s possible that, for instance, storing your probiotics in a less ideal setting for the microorganisms could cause them to die more quickly - rendering the probiotics less effective over time. In general, we usually recommend at least a three-month trial period to see the full benefits of treatment.
