I love fishing laydowns Steve. It seems like over the years guys have been saying throw your bait in the heart of the laydown. I appreciate these tips! I will have to modify my approach a little bit to see if I can get more bites. Thanks Steve! Hope you and your family are well.
The cloudy water is cover for sure. I fish a shallow clear pond and the bass are only catchable in the areas that stay cloudy. Herons get them everywhere else.
Since we don't really have great deal of rock or gravel on the lakes by me, timber and laydowns are some of the only places to target bass, other than thick hydrilla and vegetation. Fortunately, the clear water we have most of the time allows me to see just how far out that cover extends and I think a lot of anglers would be surprised to see it going 20 feet, 30 feet, 50 feet or more out into the water!
I catch a lot of good fish in the summer when boat wakes are crushing the shallows. Especially in rocky areas. It gets that food chain stirred up. Good luck!
That’s a great question. I have found around my waters, if the fish are chasing bait hard, that will drive them through most situations, but if that heat wave is extended I have had my best luck finding the most current I can find and often that will be driven by the wind. But I will try to follow the bait first.
That is a terrific question. I personally don’t use scent that often, but I always tell anglers if they believe they are getting better bites with scent, then definitely use it because confidence is so important. When I do use scents I often prefer the liquid as opposed to spray and my favorite is to inject the scent up inside a hollow body tube.
Dude kills it everytime. Best info online.
Thanks!
That one was GREAT!! My head immediately started thinking! And, that makes so much sense to hit the cover that extends out.
Good luck! It has caught some great fish for me over the years.

This video is really going to help me. I can think of at least 5 places where these specific examples can help me
Good luck out there! It is always fun to watch and observe these great creatures.

It definitely always shocks me to see it. So many times the boat is sitting over the best spots.
Just another thanks for your insights. Always great!
Thanks again!
Thank you Steve

Great stuff Steve. Any advice on late fall heat waves? Always struggle with them. No one seems to talk about.

Hey Steve wanted to ask you man do you think scent is important in catching bass?

But the lure makers want us to believe if we’re not hanging up and losing lures we’re not going to catch anything 😉
