This might be the best instructional video in the last decade. Weight forward is how all the pros do it whether they preset, or weight shift. But some pros are 90% weight on the front leg at impact. So us hackers, let’s just preset and play better golf. Great vid Tommy.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

I sincerely appreciate that, and I'm very glad to know that this video resonated with you to such an extent!!
As I've shared with some, the notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
Now, there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side, and that is what we witness with some of those Tour players you referenced. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
Thanks again for your kind and validating remarks!

I can attest to everything Tom is saying. Specifically for the driver, I was around 240 to 260 before putting my weight forward and using the shoulders (not hips) to turn. First time out on the course with this new swing and hit three drives in the 280’s and one at 297. I’m now hitting my driver consistently in the 270’’s to 280’s. As for the irons, I hit my 7 iron around 175 to 180. I’m 5’-9”, 54 years old and about 15 pounds overweight lol.

I practiced this for months and it was always too “flippy” like I didnt have enough room to fully release, resulting in lots blocked slices and duck hooks from over correcting. Judging from the positive testimonials, I must be doing something wrong lol! Are there any common mistakes that would explain why this technique is causing these issues?

      @SagutoGolf  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@ReviewsforU - That is of no concern to me. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or some of those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

I suffered multiple strokes 5 years ago at age 38 due to a medication sensitivity that left me with some left sided weakness after a year of therapy. I’ve golfed since I was 10, played in junior college but I was so disappointed in what my golf swing and game were like after I began trying to play again after the strokes that I actually quit the game. My son is now playing HS golf and I wanted to be able to play with him. I came across a Saguto Golf video a couple of years ago and this weight forward, no shift approach clicked instantly and took away my imbalance and has given me my ability to play competitive golf back and I’m enjoying playing as often as I can. We just returned from a trip to Myrtle Beach golfing with my son and father and I am forever grateful for what you’ve given me.

PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results.
One does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

    This works! ☝🏻
You have to hit the ball first, then the ground. Keeping WEIGHT LEFT makes it so easier to hit the ball first. No more chunks or fat shots.

Your golf instruction makes golf reachable fun for those wanting to improve….it doesn’t take years to master…if you work hard you can hit way better and have more enjoyment inside of 1 month.
Trying to master traditional golf weight shifting will bring you an arduous, inconsistent swing and golf will be a chore…for untold years.
It’s almost magic…but it’s not…it’s physics, geometry and it gets you to strike the ball in the middle of the club face…consistently.
    Long and short game.

As someone who uses the "Single plane swing" opposed to a conventional / traditional golf swing I would get a lot of people making comments as well like "you can't hit as far" or "you stance looks too stiff"... Ironically I went from shooting well over 100 to breaking 80 in a year at multiple golf courses and my distances have been consistently increasing as my contact improved... Now I hit farther and straighter than those that criticized my swing and they've been playing for over a decade. Anyone who is new to golf or thinking of learning an easier swing just remember that the traditional golf swing is NOT mandatory... the only thing that matters is what happens at impact position and ignoring the negative people that think that their is only one way to do something.

      Wonderfully said, Mike!
Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of modern “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Just far too many variables to manage. Precisely. Repeatably. Each and every swing. And it's all so unnecessary!

I’M NOT KIDDING YOU TOM!!!!!! I’ve been watching you now for about 2 years and I honestly found, by accident, while practicing on my new simulator, the consistency of my weight forward since watching your lessons. My problem is I’m almost 60 with past major back problems, some still today, and just can’t rotate as much as my “young buck buddys”. I’ll never hit much over 95 MPH club speed but NEVER hit the ball so crispy in my life, THANK YOU!!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I appreciate that!! But NEVER say "never" with regard to that swing speed.....
A significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? One range session. Actually, after hitting a few balls, I started to develop the same divot pattern as Tom and I had a long straight shallow line of a divot pattern on turf at the range. Then I switched to driver and it took me a few swings to adjust my setup and play the ball about a club head inside my left heal. Once I made the setup adjustment, I was hitting long draws down the range.

Been struggling a lot! And my long time friend told me I’m doing the same as I’ve always done- swaying.
Yes, I took lessons in the 90’s and was taught weight shift.
I tried what you have in your video today twice! Went to the range tis morning- weight forward and flush crispy shots.
I put in my work day and thought- “how is this possible,” so went to the range again for another 110 balls and incorporated my fairway woods and driver and after one day of trying this new method, I’ve gained 10 yards on my irons and 15-20 on my fairway woods and driver.
This is within 1 day! Uno number 1, 1 day of trying something that goes against what I’ve always been taught!
I’m kinda ticked off. I’m going to be 47 in a couple weeks and just now finding this out and I use to play college golf!

I use this sometimes with my short irons, chipping etc. However for most of my swings I use Erika Larkin"s method. So effortless and basically gravity letting the clubhead do the work. I've never hit it so far and consistent. With this method along with Tom's method there are no swing thoughts. Just basically getting that shoulder turn, keeping that body loose and feel the weight of the club. You come through with the right side and that takes care of about 20 things naturally that these other instructors confuse you with. Basically just swing the club. I was a D1 baseball player. Imagine if when you started little league broke the baseball swing down. It would appear as confusing as the instructors make the golf swing to be. Thanks Tom

Not saying it's ideal, but as long as I get the left leg posted up, it all comes together. I think it's more of a mental thing, kind of like golfers who take their backswing to the outside. Great video. The first (and worst) tip I ever got about the golf swing was to use weight shift. It was a disaster - no adult beginner is so coordinated. There is too much going on already for us and anything we can do to simplify golf has to be a good thing. Weight shift done wrong makes us hit the ground before the ball, lose club head speed and compression and hit worse shots.

I use weight shift because it makes the swing feel more dynamic in terms of using ground forces. Stack and tilt can be a great solution for someone who needs a simple swing with fewer moving parts to go wrong, among others.

    • @CrankyBuddha
      @CrankyBuddha 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

You can still use ground forces without shifting weight. That's about pressure applied to the ground through your feet (which is required to fully use your shoulder turn anyway.) There's a difference between applying pressure on different feet and moving your weight. Moving your center of mass around in the swing is basically something zero pros do (watch their heads in the swing) because that messes with your low point.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

As I just stated in reply to another commenter, if only the amateur golfing world could finally come to understand the difference between PRESSURE and WEIGHT, it would pretty much eliminate all that frustration and pain (both physical and mental) out there! But alas....if only.....😎
The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
Now, within Stack and Tilt there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and first part of the backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point.
Stack and Tilt is a SYSTEM for swinging the golf club and not a specific swing unto itself. The SYSTEM is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing the trademark motions of the S&T system, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulders at the top. As such, we can call it what we want or don't call it what we don't want, but the bottom line is that this is what they are doing, and it just happens that these same swing elements are shared with this dark sorcery known as Stack and Tilt...... 😬😆
Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing SYSTEM through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within that realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).

I appreciate your kind words, Rick, and I am very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! And you are absolutely correct in that the objective is to eliminate swing-wrecking variables and transform ourselves into ball striking machines!
By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
Been out of golf commission for a month. Going to give it a go this weekend with zero weight on the right…won’t be walking though, have to take a cart, dr’s orders.

      Yikes! Sorry about your accident!
As long as you have the doc's permission, then yes - set it forward and keep it there! And consider that Tiger is still able to compete at the game's highest level despite his shattered trail leg. And then there is the one-legged competitive golfer - front leg, of course - who absolutely crushes it. (Perhaps more on him in a future episode.)
Be careful and have fun out there!

Well done, Simon! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
As for it taking longer, well - that's why I have the online school that you have heard me mention in all those YT episodes! The school is specifically designed to get golfers on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, and it makes for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

A several years ago, Stack and Tilt seemed all the rage then died off as the latest and greatest easy to replicate iron swing. How similar your approach seems to be to Stack and Stilt! I have experimented on the range changing where I start my weight and also how much backswing and I do agree that when I start with more weight forward I have better more consistent contact and thus improved dispersion. Maybe not be super long ,but much easier to get closer to target in a controlled fashion. Thanks for this vid. I am now a subscriber and getting your notifications... Comments on Stack and Tilt anyone ???

    • @SagutoGolf

      Hi Johnny,
I am both a Class A PGA Professional and a Certified Stack and Tilt Instructor. Here is the story of my "conversion": th-cam.com/video/PM8lNNrMPEk/w-d-xo.html And here is an episode documenting my week at S&T Instructor Camp in Miami: th-cam.com/video/m9qdPOzYUWU/w-d-xo.html
As for "dying off", perhaps only in name to some extent. You see, sadly Stack and Tilt was relentlessly attacked by the "mainstream" of failed "instruction" whose erroneous concepts were threatened by the truth, and their nefarious propaganda efforts successfully - albeit temporarily - attached an undeserving "stigma" to the S&T name among those who chose not to do their own research.
The bottom line is this: Stack and Tilt is a _SYSTEM_ for swinging the golf club and not a specific swing unto itself. 😎
Anyway, you asked for comments on Stack and Tilt, and there's mine......😆😆

      Nice, Alan!!
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. If you are interested in learning more about it, then here is a link to my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

@@SagutoGolf I appreciate the info and the link, I’ll absolutely be watching this tonight. Thank you, I’m already a believer, cause I never once had an injury when I did what I was doing. Once I started watching videos teaching hip thrusting and everything else you mentioned, is the same time I started getting injuries. First it was my knee(which is already bad from years of running) then I had issues in my arm, from excessive impact when trying to thrust and rotate, and finally my back. That was the one that really got me and I’m 3 weeks into it. I’m still sore and there’s inflammation, but it is finally healing, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be following your instruction from the videos you linked!

We are indeed minimizing variables and building a ball striking "machine" here. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
And while there are certainly plenty of other videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
My stock yardages (carry) at 80% swing speed are:
      P - 146
      9i - 158
      8i - 174
      7i - 186

@@SagutoGolf impressive distances! Thanks for the note, much appreciated. I'm still coming in fat behind the ball so until I can consistently hit ball first then turf, I'll stay ridiculously forward. haha It is working for sure but as with everything, needs some work. The next time I'm on the east coast I will try to stop by for a lesson or two.

I am grateful to have found the TS program. I was frustrated with golf instruction focusing on 1- Right knee staying bent, and the 2) the weight shift, when I could see with my own eyes that Fred Coup[es has a pretty straight back leg on his back swing, as do many "old timers" like Hogan and Snead. Keeping the back knee bent never worked well for me!

Fantastic! I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your iron swing!
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: th-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/w-d-xo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - which should occur naturally if we allow it to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) during the downswing and through impact. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down.

I appreciate that, Ron. Yes - the sad reality is that this misguided notion of a "weight shift" has destroyed many a golf swing and has prevented countless golfers from truly enjoying this great game. If it is deeply ingrained it can be a difficult - though not impossible - habit to break, which is why I have in the online school some extreme shift--busting drills which - if properly worked - are nearly 100% effective.

@@SagutoGolf thanks. I have spent a bit of time myself on the whole mental side of golf- indeed am a certified professional golf mental coach and in particular I have emphasized the importance of fitness (and for seniors especially warm ups, simple stretches and warm downs to reduce risk of injury, enjoy the game even more, etc.) I have produced a synthesis of the entire mental toolkit where fitness elements and nutrition for golf feature equally. Happy to share it if you are interested. I have a playlist on my youtube channel that covers all these elements. Can send you the link should you wish to look at them. I ought to add - as I think it addresses a point you make- that indeed my driving has in particular improved using the method (though use only a mini driver). Anyway my game is optimal at present and I play four to five times a week very first tee time in early mornings winter, spring and summer. This also gives me insights as am able to relate to the challenges golfers face but also to test and try out different aspects and methods hence the more recent stack and tilt..😏cheers

PS: Regardless of your age, given your issue you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
Upon returning from surgery perhaps you might consider looking into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school? • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

I appreciate that, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
Yes - weight forward also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
With specific regard to your question about the head, we address the ball with the driver just as we do with every other club - stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else - including the head - in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. With the stock ball position for the driver typically being even with the inside of the lead hell, this will naturally set the head a bit behind the ball without having to actively tilt it back.
Related to this, I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver.
Parallel between golf and tai chi. This perspective offers a nuanced understanding of weight distribution in the golf swing that's often overlooked. Let's explore this concept further:
    ## The Tai Chi Connection
Tai chi principles of weight distribution and energy flow can indeed be applied to golf:
    1. Subtle weight shifts: In tai chi, practitioners learn to subtly empty and fill weight in their legs without visible lateral movement.
    2. Rooted stability: The concept of being "rooted" while still allowing energy to flow through the body is central to both tai chi and an efficient golf swing.
    3. Internal movement: Tai chi emphasizes internal energy movement, which can translate to golf as internal weight shifts that don't manifest as large external movements.
    ## Application to Golf
Applying these principles to golf could mean:
    ### Grounding and Unweighting
    - Instead of a lateral shift, focus on "grounding" into one leg while slightly unweighting the other.
    - This can be done without moving the center of mass significantly.
    ### Dynamic Balance
    - Maintain overall balance while subtly changing the pressure distribution between feet.
    - This can help create torque and stored energy without compromising stability.
    ### Efficient Energy Transfer
    - Use the subtle weight shifts to initiate the kinetic chain more efficiently.
    - This can lead to a more connected swing with less effort.
    ### Consistency and Control
    - Minimizing large weight shifts can lead to more consistent ball striking.
    - It may also help maintain better control throughout the swing.
    ## Benefits of This Approach
    1. Increased stability
    2. Potentially faster rotation
    3. More consistent contact
    4. Reduced strain on the lower back and knees
This tai chi-inspired approach to weight distribution in golf is an intriguing concept that aligns with modern understanding of efficient movement in sports. It emphasizes subtle, internal movements over large, visible shifts, which could indeed lead to increased speed and power without the need for dramatic weight transfer.
As with any golf technique, individual physiology and swing characteristics play a role, so experimenting with this approach under the guidance of a knowledgeable instructor would be advisable.

A very interesting analysis and comparison, John, and I see many parallels between the body-friendly, centered, powerful Stack and Tilt swing system I teach and the described Tai Chi actions. In the golf swing, rather than weight shift - which conjures up notions of a lateral movement off the ball that plagues so many amateurs - we speak of the dynamic pressure shifts throughout the motion that occur without allowing our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift at any point. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
Thanks so much for taking the time to share that helpful detail!!

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Erik!
If you are someone who previously had a considerable shift into the trail side, then the weight-forward component may initially "feel" as you describe, but that ultimately should not be occurring in the actual swing. In the system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We achieve this by addressing the ball "stacked", shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. During the swing we gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.

LOL! Surprise, surprise....and BOOM - another unbound believer has seen the light......😎
Actually, that 0.6 degrees up was interesting to me as I am typically somewhere between level and slightly descending with the big dawg. In fact, perhaps yet another surprise: the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws. In my case here I may have had the ball positioned slightly more forward than normal, but really the difference between +0.6 and -1.0 is miniscule.
Anyway, I suppose that dispels of yet another false claim spewed by some who argue that you _must_ be steep if your weight is forward.

This channel just keeps on delivering. Great work again Tom. Dont worry about the doubters. Nearly evey golfer incorporates some form of Stack and Tilt. They just don't know until they research it. Quick question, what's your opinion on hitting down at the golf ball with Stack and Tilt? I tried it on the range last weekend and it fixed my downswing issues as i was struggling with consistency. I was able to gain an extra 15-20 yards, hit fairly straight and also I wasn't coming over the top. Or i could be mistaken and Stack and Tilt actually encourages hitting down at the golf ball. Thanks in advance.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I appreciate that, and I really don't worry about the naysayers (although I do make an effort to rescue the _well-mannered_ innocently misinformed among them). Anyway, it's all inconsequential since this swing model resides in the truth. “Truth" is defined as that which conforms to reality, and this swing system conforms to the unchanging realities of physics, geometry, and data from the game’s best golf ball strikers. That's the truth, and the results - as backed up by countless unsolicited testimonials from men and women across the globe spanning all age ranges and experience levels - are the proof. Resistance is thusly futile..... 😎
The S&T swing has the club approaching the ball on descent and on an in-to-out path until the bottom of the arc, at which point it begins to naturally ascend and move back inward towards the finish. As such, the weight moving forward while keeping the head - and thus the swing center - intact will preserve a properly shallowed path and downward angle of attack on any ball positioned behind that zero point. This is why our stock shot shape is a crispy push-draw.
"What about the driver?", one may ask, as I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the big dawg.

This works, by rotating the shoulders I can feel the power loading up on my trail side and transitioning to the lead side on my downswing, nothing to do with weight shift in the legs at all. I am now driving the ball about 10% longer at avg 280 and enjoying better contact. Thinking abt weight shift promotes a lateral body movement which leads to inconsistent strikes which I’ve struggled with for years

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

YES - Exactly!!! The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." Now, there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side, and that is precisely what you are referring to. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
Thanks for your validating remarks and keep up the great work!!

I'm very glad to know that the information and demonstration provided in this video resonated with you, Alistair!
With regard to your issue, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Hi Tom , love your videos , weight forward definitely works , it’s stopped my occasional mild chunk under pressure with my irons . With the driver , it doesn’t really work for me, I start 60/40 but have to weight shift otherwise I cover the ball too much and don’t get enough launch .

I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons, Adrian - Nice job!! 💪💪
If it is not working with the driver then something is likely amiss with your setup and or execution of the motion. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. We should address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship.
      2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - and they should move targetward naturally if we allow them to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA).
      3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result.
      4) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver.

Is this hard on your hip?

Yep, but you start gently training yourself to take the weight and swing 50% until all the ligaments and tendons get used to the loading.

@woodyhamrick5858 I started this method to get rid of my sway once I improved my hip flexibility. I realize that I am not answering your question, but since improving my hip flexibility (through par for success) and following tom, I have no pain after playing. I am 60
