Here we have a 32 inch Samsung LCD TV. In this video we are going to discuss some basic troubleshooting methods for a Samsung LCD TV that does not power on and does not have any standby light.
In most Samsung LCD TVs we have four boards. We have the main board, the power supply board, the backlight inverter. The backlight inverter can sometimes be covered by a plastic or metal shield. We also have the t-con board. The t-con board can also sometimes be covered by a shield. Click the link in the video for more information on the basic functions of these boards.
If you cannot power on your TV, the first thing you will want to check, is that you have the TV plugged into an outlet that is working. After making sure that the outlet is working, you will want to check and see that your TV has a standby light. The standby light will be blinking or illuminated on the front of the TV. If you do not see a light in the front, then you do not have standby. If your TV will not power on and you do not have standby, then you most likely have a problem with the power supply board.
Here we have a close up of the power supply. You can look over the board and do a visual inspection looking for any raised or puffy capacitors, or any burnt or damaged components. Here are some examples of what a puffy capacitor or burnt and damaged component will look like.
If you have any damaged components that look this way, you should replace the board. If there is not a replacement board available, you can also try replacing the individual components or purchasing a repair kit.
Removing and installing new components requires the ability to be able to solder.
When looking for damaged components or burn marks, you can also look at the bottom side of the board. You would simply need to disconnect all of the cables and then remove the screws that hold the board to the panel.
Be sure when disconnecting cables and removing screws, that you take a picture of what the board looks like in the original state with all of the cables connected, and then you will have a reference for when you reconnect all of the cables.
If all of the components look good, then you will want to check the fuse on the power supply board to see if it is blown. Here are some images of what a blown fuse can look like. Some TVs have glass fuses and some ceramic fuses. The glass fuses can show visual damage when they are blown. The ceramic fuse does not and would need to be tested with a meter.
If the fuse is blown, replace your fuse and then plug the TV back in. After you plug it back in, if the new fuse blows immediately, then there is a power supply board and it should be replaced. If the fuse does not blow, then you may just had a power surge or another problem that caused the fuse to blow.
If you fuse is good and you do not see any visible damage on the power supply board, the next step is to use a meter and start checking voltages on the power supply board to see where the problem is. This kind of testing requires specific equipment and a specific skill set. Be sure you have the proper equipment and experience when checking voltages.

My TV had no power and no red light. I watched this video, took a gamble that it was my power board was defective as they said in the video. Ordered the part, swapped it in and my TV powered right up. I'm glad it was a $50 fix, instead of a $1,500 new TV. Thanks for the informative video, and the replacement part.

Followed this Video on my Samsung LED TV. Found it was the power board. Ordered from ShopJimmy. Replaced it and $35 dollars later TV is up and running. Never done this before, I’m a healthcare professional not a repair person by any means. Figured ide give it a try, if it didn’t work, not much lost.

Video helped me figure out what the most probable fault is and how to fix it. I decided to purchase the full repair kit and I will replace the power supply board first and go from there. If the $80 I spent on the kit gets me a few more years of outdoor use on my Samsung TV, I will be a happy guy. I will update this post when the kit comes in and I install the parts.

    • @dhowardTango
      @dhowardTango 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Parts came in just as expected, very easy to install with just a screwdriver. TV works great again and I am holding onto the other parts from the kit just in case.
Thanks for making this so easy.
The alternative considered was to buy another TV. $80 well spent.
      Keep up the good work.

Thanks for this great video... I have a Samsung LN32C350D1D 32 “ tv..... It started switching randomly between inputs, then turning itself off and on. A few weeks later it just stopped turning on completely. I have a red light showing it has power, but when I hold down the power button there is no blinking or change of the continuous red light. I took apart the back of tv to visually check things out. I took pictures and since I am new to this, I thought I would ask you what you suggest. The tv is very sentimental to me as my father bought it for me and was very pleased and proud to give it to me. He recently died and I want to keep my tv as long as I can...it is sentimental for me.... according to your tips, I am leaning toward capacitors. I would very much appreciate your advice...thank you. ..

    Hi,
i have a Samsung UN55B7000WF that's has had the flashing red light followed by some clicking then the same process over again no picture. I check the PowerBoard and see no visibly damage on the caps so next i would have to check the stand by voltage on the PB my question is can you let me know if my Jensen JTM-95 is OK to do it with? and if you can let me know if i can replace the red and black leads i have with a pair that has smaller tips to check the voltage when the connector is connected?

Thank you for the video. I have a 32" Samsung flat screen and don't see a fuse but u do think there are some components that look puffy as described. The blue ones on mine look just like the ones in the video. I only paid like 150 for the TV. Would it be worth it to get it repaired or should I just get a new TV?

Hi, Thanks for your videos. I have a question on my samsung TV repair.
    Model Number: Samsung TV LN40A550P3F
About a month ago while I was watching TV the picture suddenly went off with with distorted vertical lines and buzzing sound noise. I pulled the plug to turn it off.
The next day it started normally and was working fine until this week. The same problem happened again but it never came back on this time. I followed your videos to trouble shoot.
    1. Standby light is blinking but the TV does not power on.
    2. The 2 fuses on the power supply board are good
    3. I don't see any visual damage of the capacitors on power supply board or main board. main board gets power from power supply board. I checked voltages with multi meter.
    4. I don't see back light on or picture when tested with flash light.
Any ideas where to go from here? Anything else to identify the problem?
    Thanks!

sadly power supply section was not case of no standby light / dead tv in my case. I had to buy new motherboard for 20$ and everything worked. Probably it got somehow high voltage from antenna cable or other device via hdmi and it got damaged. Remember standby light is going directly from motherboard, not power supply board so no standby light mostly means damage of one of these boards. It does not point if TV has power, it points if motherboard is working correctly.

I have tried to replace the power supply but still the same problem. Thanks!

    Hello,
I have a SAMSUNG PN60F5300BFXZA and after a lightning storm have no standby light. I have replaced the power board, but still no light. Do you think replacing the main board is the remaining issue? Thank you so much!

I've never had a problem with my Magnavox 50 inch tv. Yesterday I picked up the remote to turn it on as usual. No power, no lights, no nothing. I reseated the plug. no luck. I did a 10 second power button test. no luck. I plugged the power cord into another flat screen it came on immediately.. So I'm assuming now that tv's just go out at anytime with no warning at all. I'm pretty depressed about the tv not turning on. I'm assuming its the power supply. I've replaced computer power supplies but the tv power supplies look a bit different. I'm thinking of doing a DIY. I am a computer tech. I have repaired thousands upon thousands of computers and laptops. Yet never repaired a tv. Do you think I can repair the tv? Any quick pointers. Is it easy to take off the back panel. Should I be very careful about certain things? my tv is a Magnavox 50 inch flat screen model number 50mf412b/f7 has no power? Thank you.

Hi I have a samsung PS-50C96hdx Plasma TV. It was working fine then switched it self off. When it has power connected the blue light comes on and is solid. (I believe this to be standby mode) when I turn the TV on whether with the remote or with the centre button I hear the power on sound/chime then the blue light goes off and nothing. I have had the back off to check the capacitors and there is no visible signs of any component damage. I am going to take the fuses into work tomorrow to test.

Similar to Tevarius, I have a 2014 Samsung UN40H5201AFXZA that also doesn't power on and no stand-by light. The only thing that happens is when I plug in the power cord, the stand-by light flashes 6 times. I tried the power board, the main board and the T-Con board, still no power up. I even disconnected all connections from the power board and the main board trying to isolate the problem and the stand-by light still flashes 6 times. I'm suspecting the P-Jog button because it's the only thing that I didn't unplug. What do you think?? Any help you can offer is much appreciated. Thank You!!

I have a Samsung 46 inch flatscreen, and the model number is LN46d503f6fxza and I went to your page and typed the number in and it showed up that you have a power board in stock, is that the right one for my tv? it's 54.43?I turned my tv off one night and it never came back on, we had a bad storm about two weeks before and my house was hit but the tv kept playing fine until last night, the red light won't come on or the tv won't come on, do you believe the power board is the problem?

I have a Samsung LN-S4051DX that won't power on. It just clicks and has no standby light. I've tested all caps and they are good. And when I test the power board, I am getting overvoltage. Where the 13v pin is, I get 18v until it clicks, then it goes down and comes back up to 18, then repeats over and over. The three 6.4v pins are at correct voltage until the click, then they go down and come back up. And last, the 12v pins all have 26v, then drop down and back up. Board looks good. No burnt spots or cold joints. Sounds like a humming noise coming from transistor the whole time it's plugged in and clicking as well. Any ideas?

Quick question (anyone well-versed can answer),
My tv (samsung model LN55C630K1F) quickly turns on and off with no standby light. I’ve summed up the problem to be the main board but that’s where i’m stuck... Replacing the main board (BN94-02701E) seems impossible (can’t find it anywhere) nor can i find any of the suitable substitutes listed by shopjimmy.
Soo here’s the question, my assumption is that the mainboard is going into self protect mode due to drawing too much power. And I don’t know how to fix that. Can someone explain that or option 2, can i replace the mainboard with any other mainboard that fits?
