I'm Active Duty Army. Biggest tip is do not "oversell" your military experience and act all "rah rah" military. Employers like to say they are veteran friendly and "love veterans" but it is all BS to look good. The truth is veteran discrimination is all to real; veterans are seen by many as rude, loud, obnoxious, lazy, bad-tempered, dumb, ignorant, etc. And for the love of good do NOT mention deployments on your resume; besides being potentially poor OPSEC, employers spend on average just five seconds looking at resumes and if they see that word they will instantly think you have PTSD.
You have to show the employer you made the transition to becoming a civilian again and that the mikitary isn't your identity.

I can tell you right NOW it is VERY hard to find a job as a soon to be military Vet. I have 3 college degrees. Great civilian work background and also military. 173 jobs applied for in 2 months. I’ve only gotten 1 interview. And I am super scared right now.

Don't wanna be negative, but there are a shit ton of jobs that don't transfer over to the civilian world. You can only sell your military experience so hard. I was in logistics, and all I did was push fuel to aircraft. That's all I did. Didn't help nor pay in the real world.

Army infrantry 3 years active duty with Afghanistan combat deployment/3 years guard (scraping by off of savings), just did my last drill and I applied to about 50 jobs last month in bad need of a job, I'm still young so I was looking for physical labor: entry level trade jobs and warehouses, my town doesn't have a lot of opportunities so I started getting desperate and applied to stores. Only two to actually offer me anything was USPS and Walmart. So here I am working Walmart getting props everyday by team leads telling me how good I am and a month in a guy comes up to me and says "don't take this the wrong way but you seem like you could be doing a lot better in something else". My resume is top notch and I am very professional and hard working, what am I doing wrong to make employers overlook me?

Yes the truth you have to remember what they always said to us in training, we are not trying to get you killed but we are training you for further training ," so basically adjust and adapt or you will never find yourself, you need to Camouflage yourself as a veteran it's not that simple to become a Civilian employee again 🤔😔

I'm 20, serving active duty in the Army. I'm following the baby steps. Next month I will have completed my $10k emergency fund. I'm debt free (never got into it to begin with bc dave said no) with my budget I should have at least $45k when I get out on 3 years. If I get deployed and get Hazzard pay I could possibly end up with more. We might be going to Iraq in 2024 but its just a rumor atm. I'm contributing 15% to my Roth TSP. I'm trying to be as aggressive as possible bc I wanna be in a good place when I get out many soldiers re-enlist bc they r broke not bc they want to. If anyone can offer me some more advice who's been in feel free to drop a reply.

Saving money like you’re already doings the best thing possible, I finished 5 years in the Corps recently and seriously regret not being good with my money till the last year. Keep doing that and I’d recommend using TA for college as soon as you can
