- Fishing for Red Snapper in the Gulf of Mexico 30 miles offshore. We get our limit of Red Snapper on our first trip offshore in Red Snapper season, as well as Vermillion Snapper. In this video we show our tips and techniques to show you how to catch red snapper and other snapper species offshore. We are fishing in a Grady White 232 Gulfstream.

Great video! Those look like good eating fish and great explanations on the different types of snapper!
Thanks for watching! Glad the info was helpful!
It was a great day on the water!! Had a blast catching a boat full of delicious snappers!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes!!!!!
Awesome video! Mexico beach has some great fishing!
Thanks! Yes, so fortunate to live here with such a good artificial reef program and organization to create it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the pointers on snapper rigs! I was able to pull a good one in yesterday during our 2-day red snapper season over in the Atlantic!
Awesome! Wow only two days! We used to complain when it was just 30 days! Thanks for watching!
What a day!
It was! Thanks for watching!
yes sir!!!...and and so some advice...so only use 9/0 reels (for bottom) (hammer star washer drag down) and with the fairly new offshore crank handles (the crank handles are angled and a little bit longer) (trust me) they are so much more easier to crank,...and also there are gimbal butt covers called "Rod Knobs" / the large type to wedge against your pelvis when cranking...you'll LOVE these. P.S. we used to use those mingos for live bait before the "reef fish bait ban" came into effect years ago to catch BIG groupers. And also get yourself some "leaning posts" and screw them to the inside of the boat....it will make cranking up big fish so much easier. GOOD LUCK SIR.....and all the best to you.
Thanks! Great info! I’m slowly getting all that together and so thanks for the info!
Great day on the water !
Yes it was! Already looking forward to next time. Trying to get as many trips as I can during open season. Hopefully another video out soon! Thanks for watching!
Nice haul....Those Lanes have a distinct taste. My favorite dish with Lane is Jamaican Jerk pan seared....Verry Different...but the spice is sooooo good.
Man that sounds good! I’m sure the recipe is lengthy but I’d love to get the recipe!
Good job keeping 5o the rules! Great video
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
Congratulation, fellas great day…💪💪💪
Yes it was! Thanks for watching!
Wow those red snapper a tiny I thought they were big in the gulf
The smaller ones were not Red Snapper, they were Vermillion Snapper. They look a lot like Red Snapper but smaller with a bigger eye and lighter color. I show a pretty good explanation of the differences in the video. Thanks for watching!
Good day fishing! What part of the Forgotten Coast are you fishing out of? We usually go out of Mexico Beach/Port St. Joe.
I live in Mexico Beach. All the inshore videos are primarily in St Joe Bay and the offshore is on the MBARA Reefs off of Mexico Beach. Thanks for watching!
I'm from up north. I never heard of a chicken rig. Why are your leaders so short ??? Thanks !!!
Chicken rigs are very simple rigs, easy to tie and have made up in advance and very effective for smaller snapper, triggerfish, and baitfish. We use shorter leaders in our free lines since we cast them out on our spinning set ups and we don’t want the leader to have to go through the eyes on the rod and since the fish typically don’t get down in the reef since they are caught up in water column. We will use longer leaders if we are fishing on the bottom to keep the mainline off the reef. Sometimes up to 10ft or more. Thanks for watching!!
That's why you NEVER grab a reel.
If you can do that .... tighten the drag a little ..... let the reel do it's job instead.
Great day 🎣
Great video! Do you anchor or use a trolling motor to stay in one spot?
Thanks! I don’t have a trolling motor so I have to use the anchor. I’ve gotten pretty good at getting over the reef. Although sometimes it takes a couple tries. But I’ve got a windlass which makes it all possible. When I get to the reef I try to stop on top of it, turn off the engines and trim them up. Then wait to see which way I will drift and then anchor opposite the reef of that drift. At some point I’m going to video all that so look for it. Thanks for watching!
@@forgottencoastfishing Looking forward to that video! and thank you so much for the explanation, really helpful!
Glad to help!
Where you running out of?
Mexico Beach, Florida. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
OK...rule #1...HAMMER your drag down when bottom fishing.
For sure! I’ve also upgraded to a couple more reels with heavier drags. The ones on that video were a bit small for bigger fish! Thanks for watching!
