In this video, Brian and Bradford demonstrate how to set up the Line 6 HX Effects pedal so that it can replace an entire pedalboard (except for volume/expression pedals).

I like to put an HX Stomp in the loop with the loop between the drives and the time based effects. I love the sound and simplicity of the setup. Along with a volume pedal, it all fits nicely in a backpack with room to spare.

Thanks for the video guys! I wonder, after loading an IR in the signal chain. Can you go out to a PA or audio interface? This is why I ask. The Mesa Boogie Mark V 25 has their "CabClone" technology inside the amp and there is "D.I" out. I have tried this going in to my DAW and loading Two Notes Wall of Sound and I can get pretty good tones like that. So it would be cool if I could bring my little amp to church with the HX Effects.
Does it auto save parameters if you dial them on the fly? Or you must save each tweek on the preset?

Had owned a Helix Floor and was just too cumbersome to bring to shows. Also nervous because it froze a few times and a pixel died on the screen. A lot of unnecessary moving parts. Sold it and just got HX, amazing little thing I'm loving.
Also, if you put overdrive pedals in the “fx loop”, does it control the pedal from the unit? If so, how does that translate to a dual style overdrive?

Very helpful. Thanx for making the video. I have a few questions if U do not mind. 1.On the HD500-X can I control the ramp up and down of the rotary effect by using two buttons? I do not want to use the pedal for that. 2. Are there any string pad like effects? 3. If there are pad like effects Can I bring that pad in & out with the pedal? 4. Does this replace the helix board with the volume pedal or is this an addition to that board?
How do I turn off snapshots? I just want to click mode then preset number and go right into my preset and see all my pedals. Right now I have to click mode , preset, and mode again. Thx in advance.

How are you routing this? Are you going into the HX first or the Kemper? Isn't it important to have the Kemper in the FX Loop of the HX so that you can put delays and reverbs after the Kemper? Thanks!
Not really. A lot of people run effects into the front end of their amp. So that's what we did here.
Great tones, B & B. I really like the idea of the HX as I like my old amps, but would like to have every pedal known to man. This seems fairly perfect for that purpose and much higher quality than previous generations of pedal modelers.

Try what's called the 4 cable method. Plenty of TH-cam videos on how to do that.

Ok I’m young and I really want to take playing guitar in worship seriously but I can’t spend huge amounts of money and I don’t have pedals or a processor I want to buy a processor but I don’t know much about them so what do I need to know before I buy one
Hey guys, excellent video! Quick question... could you use snapshots to create a certain type of sound for each song in your service? Example, we play 4 songs and for song #1 I want compressed overdrive with reverb and delay, song #2 I want clean tone with reverb and a different delay, #3 compressed overdrive, and #4 clean tone with long reverb and delay. Is this basically what y'all refer to as patches?
Yeah you can do that pretty easily, either by turning on/off different effects in the same patch, or by changing parameters of effects with the snapshots (turning up delay/verb settings, making a comp more or less extreme, etc)
Please demo the drive effects on it as well as compression
at the 4:00 mark you seem to engage two drives at the same time. Is this correct? I have an M9 and you can only pick one effect at a time from each block. Does this unit allow you to use ALL 6 at the same time? If so that's huge. Thanks
I’m not sure if we did that, but you definitely can assign multiple effects to the same switch.
You can also make a switch change parameters of an effect (like turn up the mix and decay time of a reverb or delay).
If you use snapshots you can do even more. It’s pretty awesome.

Cj Naotda it wasn’t out yet. We did this video within a week or so of the HX initially coming out.
I have a Helix and an EP Booster. I run the EP at unity gain. With a modeler, does it benefit from an EP Booster as it would on a tube amp? Pushing the front end of the Helix is a mystery to me.
It reacts the same way a real amp does. The EP Booster in the Helix (Kinky Boost) is really good, too. I’d be curious how you like it compared to your pedal version of it.
Just an example, I run an Xotic compressor in front of my Helix (i prefer outboard pedal compressors) just to number one, apply my favorite compression level, and two, boost the "front end" just a couple of dB's boost. It sounds wonderful. That interacts well with the Helix
I use the Wampler Ego Compressor on my pedalboard, but not with the Helix yet. I love that compressor.
Hey ummm what video editing program do you use for your videos you make?
For video editing? Either Premiere, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve, depending on the project. This was edited in Resolve. For audio I use Logic Pro.
So considering I would use this to make “set lists” per week, what’s the easiest way to rearrange the song list every week? Would they be completely independent patches?

You mentioned that you have the deluxe comp and hall reverb on but not assigned footswitches. How did you set that up in the signal flow menu? I've been trying to figure it out but to no success, your help would be greatly appreciate!
Hey Mark - go to the 'signal flow' view, and choose a spot anywhere on the chain. Just press the button and add an effect. From there, you can assign it to a footswitch or not.
Ah okay, I was worried it would automatically bypass the effect as it wasn't assigned to a footwsitch. Thanks!

I'm about to buy an hx effects but a crucial doubt is stopping me to do it: Is it possible to activate multiple pedals AND deactivate others with one button without going into snapshot mode? what i want to achieve is having the bottom row with 3 interchangable/swtchable presets and the top with 3 standalone pedals. thanks in advance for the reply.Bye!
Maybe I am too late, but absolutely you can do that. I do it for a Compressor and Drive on a lead sound. Works really well.

Bradford I’d love to see you guys dive into a Kemper based video. I’d like to hear effects comparisons between KPA and hx/helix. How / why did you become a Kemper player and what are some profiles you use? I noticed you referenced Tone Junkie and Selah Sounds, which both have amazing sounding profiles from what I’ve heard.

This could totally replace your volume pedal. I almost prefer using the auto volume on the M9/M13 better than using the ol Ernie Ball VP. Or, you can always use an expression pedal. 👍🏻
Do you have to have an amp for this board or if using individual mix of different pedals? Like if i just had a reverb, delay, compressor, tubescreamer and a distortion pedal, if we have a decent sound system, it shld sound ok going direct without an amp right?
Megaman it won’t sound that great. It needs something to push the signal like an amp does.
Sounds like a full helix or helix LTE is what you are looking for.
Whats a good way to control the volume on stage for an amp? Cuz u need to have it loud enough to get a nice clear tone for drives or else it just sounds messy and muffled u know?
We mic it up too in an attempt for better mixing as well so sometimes ill have the amp facing backwards towards the wall so my vocalist dont get blasted too
You could try a Mesa Cab Clone? They’re the cheaper of some options. $300. You can still use your amp and run it as loud as you want.

How to use it directly on the church mixer? Is possible to put a amp head on effects loop and go straight to the mixer using the IR cabinet simulation? Thank you, guys!
You could do that, but you'd need a reactive load to receive the output of the amp and bypass the speaker. Something like the Suhr Reactive Load. So you'd go from the HX effects into the input of the amp via the effects loop, then from the speaker out of the amp into the Suhr Reactive Load (or piece of gear that will take the speaker out of the amp and turn it into line level), and then from the Reactive Load back into the HX Effects. Then you could load an IR Speaker Cab model and run direct to the board.
If you don't use something like the Reactive Load, you'll damage both the amp and the HX Effects.
Worship Tutorials Understood. There's another cheaper and easier way to go direct to the mixer? I really need a preamp to do it? I was thinking in Mooer little pedal amps, maybe.
I use the Laney ironheart tube preamp pedal. It is a great tube preamp with a surprising amount of features. And it can be had used pretty cheap. Just put it in the effects loop and you are set.
I use mine this way. Amp head/loadbox in send/return 1 with an IR block after that. Then more effects in the HX Effects, then out via 1/4" into a DI.
How much you paid for the loadbox, Mark? Do you have a video playing this way?

That's a pretty tough choice to make. Personally, It'd definitely replace the M9 and H9 (unless you use very specific sounds on the H9) and probably some of your drives. Plus you get awesome compressors and so much more at your disposal.

How would this thing do running directly into a PA system?
Travis Jones if you’re trying to run directly into a PA id check out the Helix LT. It has Amps and cabs on it and you can load your own IR’s. I run mine directly to the PA and it sounds amazing. Maybe the HX stomp if you’re tight for cash

I'd say it's one of the weaker points in the HX/Helix platform. Especially for tracking polyphonic sounds. For single note tracking there are some good options, though.

could you do more of a smaller budget ideal pedal board not something that cost as much as a descent electric guitar or tube amp like maybe just three pedals that a electric guitarist could use for a normal given Sunday morning with out cost new about $600. maybe something more in the $300 area or less?

Watched this today. You and Line 6 have just ruined my many years of compiling pedals spending thousands of dollars! Question: can the drives and delay/mod effects be separated so the delay/mods only can go through an effects loop on an amp?

Distortion is still a work in progress i assume. There are now amp-like distortion pedals... and that will cross into the amp-emulation territory. For that reason, the HX will always be crippled from a distortion perspective.

You can absolutely replace your entire pedalboard with an HX effects BUT don't sell your analogue drives coz you'll still need them unless you play through an outstanding front of house. 0's and 1's have a bit to go before they kick the analogue circuit into touch

Bradford Mitchell Nm man! Somebody showed me this video and I started freaking out as soon as I recognized you lol. I think I might have to save up for one. The effects on this thing sound killer. I'm curious as to how the chorus sounds compared to my Boss waza craft chorus.
Bradford Mitchell are there any good polyphonic 12 string type effects that are really good? I have a digitech mosaic 12 string emulator pedal and love it, but if there's a good one on the HX, then that would be another pedal I could take off of my acoustic board.
the octave stuff could use some work. it's not real polyphonic unfortunately. I heard a rumor that they are gonna be seriously working on the pitch stuff tho! who knows!

jonathan tillman On the other line 6 products you just hold the Tap switch for a second or two. It goes into tuner mode and you get a meter on the screen. You then hit the switch once when you're done.
I appreciate the reply it didn't really answer my question which is aimed at this particular unit I get how it works but I'm just saying that I've never seen the tap Tempo light is just blinking LOL and I'm just like somebody click tuner just so we can see how it looks demo the unit HX. but the reply is most welcomed and appreciated thank you for your effort
When you go to tuning mode, the bottom 3 screens show you the pitch (sharp or flat) - you basically get a meter where a signal goes across left to right). When you go in tune it it lines up in the middle and a light goes green as well.

More pod500x patches
Is it possible to have more than 4 snapshots at a time? Although it should suffice well enough for most songs, you're aware as much as anyone that a number of P&W songs can easily demand 6 or even more (e.g. Intro, Verse 1, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Verse 2, Bridge, Outro, etc.). Ideally if possible, I may control the bank/song switching via Disaster Area Midi DMC and use 6 snapshots on the HX. It'd been easier if they made a 8 switch version. Oh well. Thanks.

I worship the god, Link Wray. He's my savior. And his tone is real and tangible unlike the hiddeness of the commonly worshipped gods that extra reverb tries to distract from. You could SEE Link. The other gods are invisible.. why? Well.. 1. they exist but don't want you to know they exist yet... or 2. They don't exist. Link Wray exists. Crunchy tweed, tremolo and some studio chamber reverb... and a native-american sense of rhythm. Rumble is real. Amen.

It's not actually full digital. Its just your pedals, which many of your current pedals are probably digital anyways. You still use your tube amp. Thats what's appealing to me about it over the helix.
It is funny because the 80% of the pedals are digital, not analog LOL. You are already digital, not 100% because you still use a tube amp, but your pedals are digital. I used to have a lot of pedals and right now I only have the Helix, it is an incredible machine.
