    I’ve been doing this for a year- drives up front and delay/ reverb in the loop. Love the flexibility it gives to run the whole board into an amp or go direct depending on the situation. The stereo options also make it an incredible solution for headphones practice

    I’ve been running my pedalboard into the HX for a couple years with a single amp and IR at the end of the board with a lot of success. For me, I run the amp (Matchstick is my go to as well as a Princeton or Bassman type) clean/edge of breakup at the end of the chain, and let my compressor (Diamond), Boost (RC Booster pre-OD’s and Vertex Boost post-OD), overdrive pedals (Nobels ODR-1, original JRockett Blue Note, Wampler Gearbox) do the work. My delay (Nemesis) and reverb (Specular Tempus) are external as well running thru the Stomp FX loop. Using modulation effects (chorus, trem, vibrato) from the HX and everything is routed to midi controller (Musicomlab) where I can change patches on the stomp, control my overdrives, and turn on/off modulation effects from the stomp. I also use an expression pedal plugged into the stomp that is controlling the Specular’s wet level via midi. Since my Stomp is at the end, I just use a balanced TRS to go straight into the house without a DI. The HX is brilliantly compact with a ton of firepower. The one thing left for me to experiment with is moving the effects block before the amp, as opposed to after the amp block. I’ve heard somebody like a David Giraldo say that he’s had a lot of success doing it this way which I’d prefer just like a real amp situation going into the front.

    This is turning into my plan after a year playing my Headrush pedalboard. Use the pedalboard for the gain & amps, and pedals for modulation, delays, and reverbs. It's the best of both worlds!

  • @DrBadLlama

    I use an hx stomp for amps and some effects. My signal path is tuner>drives>volume>left input of stomp> out of fx loop send with an EBS stereo TRS to dual TR cable with dd-500>jet revelation> stereo return to hx stomp. I primarily use your Cartographer patch to do this. Though I don't think the delay in the updated Cartographer is stereo so maybe I'll cut that since I have the dd-500 and save the DSP. Something I've done instead of turning up the mix of my pedals in the fx loop is cut the input gain by 3 or so db, then boost the output gain by 5db. Helps the fx in the loop remain clear and present.

    I’m running morning star ml5 looper into the stomp. I have an merc 7 and a ua golden reverberator running in the stomps effects loop this is all controlled by an mc6. I have most of my patches set as either an stereo, wet/dry, mono. Or a just fx. I love the flexibility of the unit as a whole. I’m a bassist I use the hx stomp for many different ways. I use the stomp on one end as an amp only sometimes for an effect or two. I tend to use the loop a lot for guitar base effects for a mix for cleans for the low end to come out. I can use the hx stomp only if I have to with one effect. But I Mainly use the stomp for effects and eq for my live amp (Mesa walkabout 12) I use a two notes cab m on the Mesa for a cab sound does wonders and gives nice stage volume. I have a pretty large board with compression, dirt pedals, sans amp tuner pretty much everything a bassist uses and the stomp works great in every way

    I personally think running one amp and one or two IR's is the best and sounds plenty big and leaves you with plenty of DSP. I love my setup and it sounds pretty good. not perfect, but good enough for my needs. I agree that this is the year of pedals and remember to use what you have and don't worry about having a ton of gear if you can't afford it. You don't need to go crazy with pedals to make a good sound!

      Hey ! Blessings to you; glad to hear deciding to enter the realm of pedal effects sounds. My advice to you is to get the podgo - same sounds, and it's got an integrated volume/wah pedal. It's also slightly affordable, but that's bc there are some things that it doesnt have that the hx stomp does (such as less amount of effects you could use- less "dsp".
      But it wont really matter to you if you only use a plug and play, directly into DI for your church. If that's all you do, and use headphones for practicing, try out the podgo. hx stomp is perfect for integrating other pedal sounds, interfacing, more small sized etc.
      Hope this helps

    I just got an MC6. The most pain I've experienced with gear recently was figuring out how to change between banks and turn patches on in the DD-500 with the MC6. I wish I could figure out how to get the MC6 to stop flashing one preset let's say a delay in the boss, when I turn on another preset that changes banks and patches on the boss. Your pedalboard inspired my mc6 purchase though. Thanks!

    Drives up front into an Iridium, straight into the stomp, volume pedal in the loop. Profit. Taking the amp/cab load off the stomp lets you run pretty much any standard set of effects without running out of dsp. I've never hit the dsp limit when making patches in this configuration.

    • @worshiptutorials
      @worshiptutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's a great way to go. People mostly assume that Stomp is meant to replace amps (at least I think they do), but it does so, so much more. And one of the things Stomp/Line 6 does particularly well is the overdrive models. We've compared them to the actual pedals quite a bit, and they're crazy close.

    I’m thinking about doing exactly this with my rig. I currently have a Boss MS-3 that I use for compression, modulation, delay, and reverb with three drives in the loops. I love the functionality of building a patch per song so I’ll keep that basic setup. I’ve run different pedals after the MS-3, mostly a second reverb and a looper, and I’m looking for an amp/cab sim for running direct. HX Stomp does all of that and more and it’s all in one box.

  • @MatthewSpringer
    @MatthewSpringer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have almost this same setup and sound utterly different. I run an ampless board with a signal chain: Guitar -> Duelist -> Cali 76 -> LightKeeper -> HX Stomp -> effects loop -> H9 -> Hx Return -> Phones/Out. It's all controlled with a Morningstar Mc6. I run York Audio IRs.
    The main thing with a board this absurdly versatile is that the thinking of how you design the control scheme (like say, the switch layout across HX / H9 morning star) is at least as interesting as the sounds you can get out of the board. I've spent a ton of time trying to figure out a way to navigate things such that I can hit a single button and get a specific sound very quickly without getting lost.
    @WorshipTutorials. How about a video describing the control flow on the MC?

    • @worshiptutorials
      @worshiptutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Matthew! I actually filmed a video today going over how I program the MC8 to make a song patch that essentially works like snapshot mode on a Helix

    • @MatthewSpringer
      @MatthewSpringer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@worshiptutorials Nice! A more versatile approach than a song specific patch is an artist specific patch. I (am about to) organize my MC6 around a series of "sound like [famous guy here]". An EJ page has two different EJ modes, a gilmour landing page, etc. Ex: I have a Knoplfer landing page with two different gain levels on tap (clean early sound and furry overdrive sound), a long delay, a slapback delay, a pitch shift chorus. The idea is to teleport the rig into a mode that's centered around a single amp model with two or three gain levels plus one or two effects. For church, lots of time is spent on the Tom Petty page (AC30 -> tape delay + chorus + an octave shifter) with all the effects off.
      The huge advantage is you can dial up a sound for a new song quickly and have some options without getting paralyzed or constantly rejiggering your patch set. One button is always mute/tuner, one is tap tempo, one button is go back to artist browse mode.
      I was on a vineyard team for ten odd years and found that the amount of effects I liked was roughly an order of magnitude more than my worship leader did, so dialing in more subtlety was better. Univibe that sounded great in my bedroom simply did not work at 9am. Even if you setup for snapshots, you want to be able to kill things that are a distraction fast.

    • @MatthewSpringer
      @MatthewSpringer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@worshiptutorials Fantastic rig, BTW. Not sure if you ran into this problem but I found I clip the H9 when I put it in the HX loop unless I back the Effects loop block send WAY off.

    Summing stereo to mono is a compromise and in many opinions a lot worse than just mono. Vertex Effects has done videos on this, worth listening to before choosing to go summed-mono over regular mono. Once you hear an A/B comparison of summed mono vs regular mono, I personally don't know how you could ever choose that, but to each their own.

    I need help/input:
    I use a external preamp pedal as my amp. I use an IR for my cab.
    So my pedal has to either be pre stomp or in the effects loop. I love th sound when it’s in the loop at the end of the chain with the IR. I usually run it with a wet dry dual path.
    BUT I want to add a stereo reverb pedal (jet revelation) in the loop. The obvious problem is that the preamp is already taking up one return.
    Should I just run the revelation as mono? Should I run the preamp before thr stomp leaving the revelation as stereo?
    Or run the preamp in the fx loop into the revelation into the hx as both stereo and into two IRs which wouldn’t be wet dry.
    Basically it’s a decision of wet dry vs stereo wet.

      Once you start stereo you need to keep it stereo or it will sum.

    what if i have a stereo effects setup in front of the hx stomp.. and in the stomp i have one amp and one IR in the end of the signal chain.. does it still count as Stereo or sum to mono?

      If you have a single IR block, it will sum. If you use the stereo IR block and load the same IR in both sides, you’ll retain the stereo image.

    Does this work as well with the FM3?

      Yes for sure. FM3 cannot run two amp blocks, so you can’t run a stereo board into it and retain stereo imaging. So you’d have to run FM3 so that the amp block is in front of any stereo effects.

    Nice try. So. I thank you. But the video is Disjointed and without a map. As such, I can't follow.
