A beautiful sound, but the oddest juxtaposition of extreme stylistic solemnity and secular sentiments! Consequently, the monotony of structure did not add to the emotional impact, it made the total effect almost risible.
I think exactly the opposite: this work, which combines Burns' simple, beautiful poem with the music of Pärt (who is a mystic), proves that metaphysics is not reserved for religion or philosophy.
