    This is the comic I bring up whenever I hear people say Superman is "boring" or "too good."
    NO, I say, the struggle to do good is NOT boring, and it's absolutely not impossible for people to identify with someone making that struggle. Even if a character isn't full of anger, pain or bitterness like a Batman or a Wolverine they still struggle, and there is still drama in them, and a lot to learn from.

    Batman War on Crime from this set of comics is one of the best explanations of Batman's nature and how Batman and Bruce Wayne work as one to fight a War on Crime not only at the street level but also in the board room. It's Epic!!

      I'm a big fan of the entire World's Greatest Superheroes collection. Can't really go wrong with Ross and Dini writing the Justice League.

    This book was amazing. Usually when Superman is shown in full god mode, he comes off so cold and powerful. Here he is so human in spite of his might.

    • @ForEveryKindofGeek
      @ForEveryKindofGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree, I think so many people focus on the idealism and power of Superman that they forget how human he is.
      I really like stories where Superman struggles in spite of his powers, it's a great reminder that might doesn't make right and nobody has the answers to everything. We can't save the world on our own, but we can all work to build a better world together.

      @@ForEveryKindofGeek The stories where Superman loses not to physical foes but awful human nature are among my favorite comics of his. It shows that while he can juggle planets, it's the small stuff that weighs him down.

    Between this narration, Paul Dini’s words and Alex Ross’ work, yup I’m tearing up. Teared up during the Shazam book too.

    I hope that the James Gunn Superman movie has the tone and feel of this book.

    Superman Peace on Earth is one of the best Superman stories ever told! It makes him very human despite his powers and it tells a great and heartfelt story about helping your fellow man. The art by Alex Ross is very beautiful and comes across as iconic. The writing by Paul Dini captures Superman's spirit and heart to a t and reminds why Superman is the best hero in DC comics and also why Superman is important. This is the perfect Superman story.

    I don't think it was remotely intentional, but for me I think the ending of book actually seems to be alluding to a form of mutual aid. The book ends with Superman teaching a new generation of kids how to farm as Clark Kent and I while its been a while since I read it believe the book references the tragic fact that we already have more than enough food to feed everyone, we just don't distribute it correctly. The line at the end about sharing "knowledge and time" with each other in particular feels very relevant. Charity donations alone are useful but they don't solve the larger systemic problems. Mutual Aid isn't just about making sure someone has food its about restructuring systems of power and building resilience so that people can create healthy, thriving, sustainable and productive communities. Learning how to properly grow and preserve food is an extremely useful skill and one that is arguably essential to survive if we experience a major disaster. So why don't aren't we taught how to do it in our schools? Ideas and knowledge are power. No one person can change the world, and the systems of power that are in place that enable world hunger to exist aren't something any of us can wish away with magic. But we can begin to change the world if we recognize our responsibilities to our community and work to share out knowledge and skills for the benefit of others. For Clark Kent, his attempt to create change is teaching sharing his knowledge about farming. It is to act as a teacher. What will your attempt be?

      I agree. Building a better world takes work, and lots of it. Some issues can seem insurmountable but I think the key message of this book isn't that we have to take everything on ourselves. Put the work in when and where you can, and hopefully others will start to follow your example.

      Thanks as always for the kind words, Matt! One creator to another, that means the world. I owe a lot to the community I've found on TH-cam. Creators like you, Owen, and Troy always push me to make the most of what I'm creating, and my videos wouldn't turn out half as good without the amazing people I work with to make it happen.
