All the other actors had problems doing their scenes as well this episode because they kept breaking up and start to cry while trying to act. See the tears rolling down their faces? I can assure you, those are genuine tears representing genuine sadness. What an amazing cast for this series. Just, wow... and they grieved the ending even more than we do, for they too saw the value of this exceptional show. Bravo, everyone. Bravo.

B5 has probably one of the best ending I ever saw for a series, it's at the same time the completion of a story, a big thanks to the fans by JMS, and a sad farewell to those beloved characters by an amazing cast. RIP Mira Furlan.

To be a Sci-Fi fan in the nineties and 2000's... Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Babylon 5, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Voyager, Farscape and SG1. Little did we realise that was a golden age for Science Fiction on TV.

i agree with what you're saying , but for it's time b5 was flashy as hell. it was the first time they used cg for a tv show. the age shows for sure but back then we pentium bois were touching ourselves every time we got a good glipse of those starfurries or the "physics" based flight of a white star.
Nearly 20 years after airing and watching this series countless times over the years this scene still makes tears cascade down my face every time. This is how shows are to be, they are to pull at your heart, make you dream of tomorrow, and show you what it's like to be human. There has not been a better series since this show (and I can't think of a better one prior as well). JMS and Christopher Franke did true art to life in this.

I will argue any day that this is the greatest piece of science fiction that has ever been made, it was a show with a beginning, middle, and end. So many of the characters didn’t get the traditional happy endings, but they got endings with a great power behind them. I always think of the music for season 5 and you notice that there is a slight change in the gravitas when the images of Molari and then G’Kar come up, neither of them was a perfect person, Londo was damned in so many ways, and yet, in the end Londo found a way to serve his people, and those he cared about. G’Kar came so far from the warlike hateful man in season one to a near monk in season five, in the end he was the one person who gave Londo true friendship. Amazing show, amazing characters....We will see them again, in the place where no shadows fall.
I was in tears when Delenn knew John's time was almost up. Lorien did say 20 years and no more. Wept even harder when J. Michael Straczynski himself pulled the switch that ultimately decommissioned B5.

when mira furlan spoke at the calgary comic expo this last year, she mentioned this scene and how it was often mentioned by fans, so I think for her and for us this moment is one of the finest scenes on tv ever filmed. Very powerful and represents how each of us deal with death and passing and the loss of loved ones.
Everything about this scene is emotionally devastating. Yet the look of dawning horror and grief on Delenn's face as she realizes that this *will* be the last time she ever sees her beloved, and that there is nothing she can do about it... damn. Just... damn.
2.45 You know he wants to look back one more time, but knows if he does he can't go on. A beautiful scene that summed up in one moment an entire relationship.
Story telling at it's finest, Hero's, Villain's, Love, hope, joy, sadness, despair, comedy, tragedy, all the elements that are missing today. Thank you B5 for the joy you brought to us.
B5 just popped up on HBOmax and I am already halfway through S2. I am both anticipating and dreading watching the final episode and will probably need to make sure no one else is home when I do it. Nobody wants to see Daddy being a blubbery mass of tears.
I watched this when it originally ran and it is still one of my favs! There was alot of depth in the characters. The tragic end of the Jeffery Sinclair actor in real life! That 1st season riveted me and wanted more! Unlike so many other series this one got a fitting end. Mira was one of my favorite characters and was sad to see her passing....It was truly a great show that you don't see like that anymore....

Because it's perfect; JMS didn't find a simply way out - John had 20 years and that's what he got - and that's what makes B5 the amazing show it is: there's pain and there's suffering, and most characters don't get their happy ending.

Why on Earth did I click on this video knowing how much it was going to hurt. So many years later and this scene still has the exact same effect as the first time... so many tears.
The great thing about B5's ending is that it puts me in such a dilemma. While I am genuinely wishing for it to end in a different way, a happier way, deep down I know that this ending couldn't have been better. So I have to learn to accept it.
To know you are going to die, to know the date, to realise that your soul-mate knows as well, to walk away, to meet them, to say goodbye, knowing there was NO HOPE of you ever meeting again .... could you stand where Delann stood, could you do it? I do not think I could have the strength of character to do, what Delann did.

Mira Furlan is killing it here. I dont know what she pulled up out of her past to express the feelings her character shows, but damn!@ Gets me every time. Her eyes... the look of love, of pain, than anguish in them, the loss that she feels coming... There's genuine emotion there.
A man and a woman ... who love each other ... and are compelled to part ... and do so with such depth of genuine emotion that it evokes emotion from the audience. That is what J. Michael Straczynski accomplished here ... and yeah, I can't watch it without my eyes getting wet, either.

I’m watching this in reruns on Comet TV now and it’s still one of the best sci fi series I’ve ever seen. The last episode is a real tear jerker and I hate to see it end. So sad that so many of the main characters are no longer with us.

We lost two dogs, who were part of the family, in November and December. And the third one, who is my dearest, isn't doing all to well.. This scene makes me tear up completely. I'm sincerely terrified of things to come. Edit: Bab5 was an awsome and unique show. It summoned so many emotions and it had such a great cast
God, this scene rips my guts out. It's Delenn breaking down, as much as anything. How could one say goodbye to a creature like that? I think I love her more than any other fictional character I've ever encountered.

this scene always already gets me in that kubrick-esque opening frame. i cant quite put my finger on it, but when i saw that for the first time, i subconsciously knew "oh god, this is it, and its not gonna be pretty". JMS is a kick ass writer, but turns out, we also have lost a great director to the art of screenwriting. amazing that the very first thing he directs ends up being one of the most memorable TV series episodes of all time. but sure, he had a good script to work from. who wrote that again? oh, wait...
I lost my parent to cancer as well.... I was on my way to the hospital when received a msg that he passed away.... wish I had such a moment at the last minutes....

God, this scene rips my guts out. It's Delenn breaking down, as much as anything. How could one say goodbye to a creature like that? I think I love her more than any other fictional character I've ever encountered.
They shall meet again in the place where no shadows fall. Although she lived to quite a ripe old age waiting for that day when she could see her beloved John again.

this scene always already gets me in that kubrick-esque opening frame. i cant quite put my finger on it, but when i saw that for the first time, i subconsciously knew "oh god, this is it, and its not gonna be pretty".
JMS is a kick ass writer, but turns out, we also have lost a great director to the art of screenwriting. amazing that the very first thing he directs ends up being one of the most memorable TV series episodes of all time.

I lost my parent to cancer as well.... I was on my way to the hospital when received a msg that he passed away.... wish I had such a moment at the last minutes....
Sorry for your loss. Cancer has taken my Aunt, Great-Uncle, and my mother as well. I see that this is years after you posted but, hats off hermano. Hope that you and them have been able to find peace
My condolences, My mum passed due to Cancer back in 2017.
