By the clauses of the death contract, the (former) board members are now forced to be lifetime protectors of Garibaldi and Lise. That is an almost evil level of ingenious.
The only way I think it could have been better was if he'd added, 'And even if your security is good enough to absorb 99% of the attempts, well...'
The beauty of Garibaldi here, is that most other characters couldn't pull off such an over-the-top strongarm act. It wouldn't read as credible. But consider the things Garibaldi has been through and survived by this point. On his scale of experience, bullying this board of powerful people and openly threatening them with assassination is just a petty affair to wrap up before breaking for lunch. It's believable that Garibaldi would have the stones to go through with it, without a moment's hesitation.

It's already a foregone conclusion that the board had absolutely no power there at all, so there was no reason or need to intimidate them.

That it does, the only thing missing is Elmer Fudd. As a side note, Mr. Edgars, who was the richest man alive, had to ship Oranges to Mars for Orange Juice yet on B-5 they had Orange Trees and a few illegal Coffee plants. I would think with all Edgars money he could set up a tropical Green house on Mars for Oranges and a separate one for Coffee if he wanted fresh Coffee. But Garibaldi was the center of the show.

He was B5s Han Solo. Roguish but with good intentions.
He just basically told him "We both know I've won and you can do nothing about it. I own you now."
It was Garibaldi's show. Everyone else was just there to provide context.
When Doyle auditioned, he apparently showed up cold off Wall St, looking for his 1st acting gig and they asked him what part he was auditioning for. he said "The one you're going to give me", or some such, and the staff looked at each other and said "Garibaldi". History proceeded henceforth.
I believe it.

So the character you'd expect the least from (ex-drunkard with a bad CV jumping from one job to the next) turns out to be the one character that ends up with a bright future on the show - a billionaire with a wife and kid.

Don't forget that, in the last season, Garibaldi fell back into the position of "incompetent drunk", due to Bester's abuse of him. It was only at the end, after Sheridan fired him, that Lise helped him sober up & gave him his Happy Ending... so to speak.
Sometimes I wonder if they ever removed that telepathic block Bester put on him that kept Garibaldi from attacking him outright...Bester would be $hitting bricks right along with those corporate a$$wipes if they ever did
They did. In 2271, Garibaldi finally managed to capture Bester. Rather than killing him, Garibaldi had Bester imprisoned for life and subjected to the sleeper drugs that took all of his telepathic abilities away.

@Bek359 -- That's anticlimactic. Bester deserved a more dramatic send-off, even if it were something along the lines of what usually happens to Indiana Jones villains -- face melting, head exploding, etc. I could see Lyta Alexander doing to him what the "crystal skull" aliens did to Irina Spalko.
Never mess with a guy who just so happened to be a security chief that had to deal with detective work all the time!
And helped deal with two damn near divinely, or demonically, powerful species.
And hit rock bottom three times and picked himself back up every single time.

Today i just so saw the story where Grey (or brownß) 17 was missing, well not really, it was taken over by a cult and a puppet shot a tranquilizer dart at Mr. Garibaldi.

+Gnomleif Well the assassination attempt was to keep their pet projects a secret and keep running the company behind the scenes. Now they have to worry about the fact that they made an enemy of one of the most dangerous men in the entire known galaxy who just said "I'm no longer under ethical restraint". Frankly I'd be making myself a non-person after that fact if I were any of them.

well, in fairness, those were genocidal neo-nazis, who fully deserved getting their asses kicked by the other guys, Garibaldi's hologram just helped it along.
Don't mess with Garibaldi was kind of a running thng throughout he show. When he is on the ball, he is a force to be reconed with and feared.
"Since I don't work for the Government anymore, I don't have to play by the usual rules."
Hearing those words from Garibaldi sends chills down their spines and strikes terror into their souls. Garibaldi was dangerous before, but now...
After all this time, "Babylon 5" is still one of the best sci-fi shows ever made! Especially the story and the characters which I loved the first time I laid eyes on! Jerry Doyle as Michael Garibaldi was a big reason why!
I love watching this scene, and boy what a way to get fired. They don't make science fiction shows like this anymore.
Unfortunately we lost this great actor. May they rest in peace 'beyond the rim'. Babylon 5 rocks.
One has to admire the 'Guide To Corporate Management by Michael Garibaldi' lesson here.
It was a great series for its time despite its sometimes low budget sets. It was the various story lines that made it so great along with the CGI available at the time. The actors did great as well.
Budget management was one of it's greatest achievements; since it helped a lot to keep B-5 on the air. Taking cues from theatre, the production crew recycled props and set pieces, the execs worked out an exact schedule for each season; which actually allowed more money down the road for the more ambitious episodes to be made; and for folks to go be able to home at reasonable hours. As for the computer effects, their successful use(mostly) was what convinced Trek and other sci fi shows to gradually cut back on the physical models. Money as well as Faith Manages, indeed. 😉👍
I had forgotten how enjoyably funny this scene was. Oh, that's definitely one of the highlights of this last season.
So many good characters in that show, they all grew, all went through real changes. And the dynamics and chemistry between the actors was outstanding.
Still in my top 5 SF shows ever.

Can't recall any others at the moment
Had to be character driven. B5's greatest strength was the story. Had to because the special effects got dated quick.
But god the story that was inside that cheap wrapping paper.

ah that's right...my bad....I think Zack was pretty cool too....he was very sweet to Lyta.....which is one thing I'll never forgive the people in charge of producing the series for.....sticking Lyta with Snobio the Telepath when I think her and Zack would've made a good couple.....along with also literally killing off Susan/Marcus by killing off the Marcus character >.
Too late now after losing so many of the actors who played their characters so very well, but part of me hoped for a long time to eventually see some of the books made into movies (especially the book trilogies). Getting to see Doyle's portrayal of Garibaldi finally being able to hunt down Bester after the telepath war was over and Lyta had removed the blocks in his mind would have been great. Legions of Fire would have made a great movie too, but with both Katsulas and Furst dead now, that is no longer much of an option either.

So many great lines from so many great characters.
Those new board member will follow Garibaldi to the end. He guaranteed a loyal board.
Most entertainment will provide one or two hugely satisfying moments during it's course, usually revenge-related. Babylon 5 was resplendent in them, and they were all supremely satisfying. In my opinion it is simply the best sci-fi series ever made. It's certainly my favourite one, coming in above DS9 and Space: Above and Beyond.
The return of Number One aka Tess Halloran was one of the high points of season five.
I've truly enjoyed Marjorie Monaghan's acting since seeing her on that little SF show which couldn't; Space Rangers (1993 ).
Tough as nails resistance leader, but Tessa still found the time to give Doctor Franklin a happy - because God knows that poor guy needed it after all the hell he went through.

What he did to find a new board of directors was equally epic (if anyone else remembers)... he promoted the biggest whiners and complainers from around the office to the board and basically told them you have nothing left to complain about since you'll be making the decision from here.

Favorite character in the whole show full of awesome characters. My favorite scene was when he shot the speaker in the elevator after the AI kept nagging him.
I liked it when Talia smacked him one in the elevator - as he just stood behind her having mucky thoughts.
It's a damned good job she never heard MY thoughts about her because there'd have just been a small, greasy stain on the lift floor where I used to be standing. :)

He held the door for me and my friends at a Dragoncon, it is one of the fondest memories I have.
Shit, I'd have held the door for HIM! Reminds me of when I was checking into a hotel for a convention on Long Island in the mid 2000s. I don't remember if I asked the time, or was asked the time, but I found myself standing next to Peter Jurasik. You can imagine my eyes turning into full on jumpgates.

yeah I liked Ivanova too....one of the funniest Franklin/Ivanova exchanges was the one where he was putting them all on diets and she had a diet that was supposed to help her gian some weight as he felt she was underweight and Ivanova's like "All m life I fought against imperialism and now all of a sudden i AM the expanding Russian frontier" and Franklin is like "with very nice borders" LOL...it's a shame they killed off Marcus though....I loved his sense of humor and I think he would've been a good romantic match for Ivanova :(

What skills does a cop have? I didn't know being incompetent was a skill most are almost criminally ignorant about the laws their supposed to enforce .🤣 🤣 🤣
@@jimbotheassclown Don't know how this slipped by me for over a year but let's respond. First, police are very well trained in the law they enforce. Much of the academy classroom time is on laws, regulations, and procedures. Second in a situation like the above shown, try weapons skills, CQC, forensics, investigations, running street sources, profiling, communication, survival, and whatever else a specific agency or department might require. Law enforcement gets held back alot by the rules and laws that constrain them, but they are very skilled when the gloves come off. And if they are no longer a cop, then L.E. ROE doesn't apply anymore.
I've just got the mental image of him slipping in the shower, and suddenly 5 executives who haven't seen him in ten years just...start...BURNING money to make sure he gets medical treatment.
Considering every implication is HE NEVER CANCELED THAT.
In a more complex and cynical world, those people were terrified stupid and took covert measures to assure no harm whatsoever, even accidental, comes to them, and in that clumsy process actually killed them.

From 2009 to 2020, my dear hometown of Ålesund in Norway had a second-hand shop, where visitors and customers could buy various books, magazines, films, records, CDs, etc. without paying dearly for the goods. It was in that second-hand shop I bought all 5 seasons of Babylon 5 and the movies, which I did in 2016/2017 ☺
To paraphrase G'kar, Garibaldi never starts a confrontation unless he already knows how it's going to end.

Season 5 had it's moments of "filling in the blanks", but so many moments of power. Strange that one small line from one episode is one of the most emotionally gut-shredding moments for me in the history of cinema.

This was a good scene. There were a lot of scenes, to many to count, which I loved. One of my favorites when it was an episode or 2 before B-5 broke off where Garibaldi went to Security to confront the others. One said something about him not making a scene. I loved Garibaldi's smart response.

Garibaldi‘s being nice when he does it this way. His preferred method is out of airlock.
The other classic scene was when Garibaldi was a simulation in a military base, involved in some war. They gave the simulated Garibaldi a bit too much of his personality, and he hacked their systems to learn all about the war.., then Broadcast their entire conversation to the other side, because they were going to launch a first strike, causing the other side to strike first.
"See while we have been talking, I have been sniffing around your system, learning its in and outs, and how it operates, and this conversation has been broadcasting all along.., If i were them i would have missiles on their way already".
"now, they most likely do care about innocent casualties, so they will be targeting military bases.., You are not on a Military base by any chance are you ?"
I love the Daffy Duck print on the wall in the backrgound. Reminds me that Michael Garibaldi was a Daffy Duck and Looney Toons aficionado! I salute you sir!

This show was/is so awesome. So many wonderful dialogs, especially the lines from Garibaldi and Ivanova. :)

This will be interesting especially with the remaining cast being involved because the show at the end said there wouldn't be another Babylon station after 5. So im wondering how they are going to do that or if they are going to just retell the story with changes throughout it.

When i first watched this I thought how did Orson wells get reincarnated.
Jerry Doyle could have replaced Bruce Willis in Die Hard, and the 4th move would have had to be changed from PG13 to NC17 for the amount of mind fuckery that would have been done to the villains of that movie.
I always thought it a shame that Mr. Garibaldi never got to kill Bester. Still, at least we got moments like this.
Stories afterward say Bester was arrested, died in prison, and Garibaldi drove a stake into his grave, just to be sure.

My only gripe is that the series never got around to showing Garibaldi vs Bester. These guys were just the opening act, Bester would have been the headlining event.
