  • We don't have the luxury of studying all day all the time. We need to be able to quickly grasp new concepts in the shortest amount of the time to make the most out of our focused study time. In this video I will discuss my approach to grasping new concepts much much quicker to become a speed learner!
    If you enjoyed the video and want more, please do let me know in the comments down below :D
    About me:
    Hi, I'm Khaled. I'm a medical student in the middle east. I love my cat Miku and I love going around and giving advice to everyone. I tend to nerd out on some specific subjects and hyperfixate on them as well. I hope you have a wonderful day :)

    in brief:
    This video features Gloom, a third-year medical student who shares techniques for studying and understanding complex concepts more efficiently. Here's a summary:
    1. **Let go of Perfection**: The first step to effective studying is not to expect perfection. Recognize that it's okay not to understand every detail of a topic initially. Reducing this pressure allows you to focus on the key concepts.
    2. **Simplify and Orient Yourself**: Before delving into the intricacies of a topic, gain a simplified, core understanding of it. For instance, when studying diabetes, Gloom recommends starting with a short summary or introductory video. This forms a 'big picture' understanding, onto which you can add details later.
    3. **Study Comparatively**: We often comprehend concepts faster when we study them in relation to other concepts, rather than in isolation. For instance, when studying type 1 and type 2 diabetes, understanding the differences and similarities between them can provide a better grasp of each individual condition.
    4. **Utilize Resources**: If a concept is proving challenging, seek alternative explanations or overviews from different resources. For instance, watching a brief video to clarify a difficult concept can help.
    5. **Take a Break**: If a concept just isn't making sense, it's okay to step away and give your brain a rest. This break can allow you to return to the topic with a fresh perspective.
    Finally, Gloom urges students to adopt these techniques to make their study time more effective. If they're still struggling with exams, Gloom suggests watching another video offering six additional tips. He ends by encouraging viewers to subscribe to his channel for more advice.

    Thank you so much for this video! I am too neurotic to skip parts that I don't understand, the reason why it takes so long for me to finish one study material. By the time I finish it, I am exhausted and couldn't complete the rest of what I need to study! This video reassures me that it's okay not to understand everything right away and it will come later on but just keep at it and trust the process. This video just made a whole lot of difference in my life right now. Thank you so much Kloom and may God bless you always!🙏❤

    While the first advice, about avoiding to feel like you have to learn everything, is good in general, I feel like in mathematics and related areas, things are somewhat more complicated.
    Yes, it is always good to try get the big picture when you can, but often a large part of that big picture understanding comes from understanding key details.
    If you get into the habit in skipping things you find hard, you will typically not understand anything what you read after that.
    The information is often very tightly coupled logically unlike most subjects where you just read a lot of text with information more loosely connected.
    Yes, there are side tracks, not as relevant, in mathematics too which you can skip on a first reading, but typically you really should try to understand things thoroughly before continuing.
    If fact I would say a good trick is to actually stay with the hard details and really understand them on a deeper level before reading further will save you a lot of time later.

    • @KloomOfficial
      @KloomOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you. This is not a one size fits all and there are certainly subjects where this wouldn't be as applicable practically speaking. I can mostly apply this medicine because understanding comes in multiple layers.
      I honestly don't have much experience with math besides High School where the last thing I did was calculus which was 3 years ago. From what I remember, I used to learn math by virtue of practicing a TON on a lot of problems and analyzing how I got them wrong. So I can see how the details there are very important to help tie everything together!
      Thank you for pointing that out!

    • @pwincessyat
      @pwincessyat ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the only way to understand math is by practicing them and questioning the answers. Some topics may have similarities, for example, mine have addmath and math. Both looks the same but the calculations are totally different. Well, there are variety of strategies that we can apply to master one subject. Don't give up and try your best!

    Thanks for the great video! when going through topics, do you only move on to the next topic once you have mastered all the Anki for it, or do you just keep going? I am studying for the MCAT and im not sure if I should only move on to the next topic when I have completely learnt the current one, or to focus on breadth over depth

    • @KloomOfficial
      @KloomOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to get very crazy with my learning where I get bored quickly if I got the main gist of a topic and did the Anki for it. I tend to shelf it and jump into other topics and do the exact same thing. I then like to revisit it at a later time to cover more details, do some more anki on it, and then put it aside again. Over and over again.
      Basically my learning and memorization eventually coalesces all at once because I study everything in a relatively short period, then rinse and repeat until it all sticks at once rather than just letting one thing stick one at a time.
      See what works for you and what sticks better in your head. Might need some experimenting on your end!

    hello @kloom , first skimming the topic helps us to see big picture of the topic i listen many times about this but never cares , in sq3r also survey is similar to skimming to get core topic picture later we add details ...i understood from your vedio now ...i used to learn without skimming so topic become unorganised now i realised
    1.i used to question everything to understand better and visualise the things for better recall
    2. now i undertand the topic , so apply it in real world or in the concept where it is widely used through visualising
    3.now i break down topic if neccesay to add relationships by visualising
    4.now topic comploted i teach to myself so simple and revise is spaced repitation
    for learing facts also i add relations to grasp than cramming or mnenmics , chunking , imagination and association to each other
    is there anything else to improve myself ? i note take which is helpful in future to review for longer period of time

    but then the point is i almost only had 1 time to study the topic at all before the exam -_- not to say sometimes i couldn't even cover everything for 1 single time..

      Yeah I plan on making a cram guide some time in the future. This isn't exactly for cramming a one time study for an exam in 2 days. This applies more if you have time to study and revise.

      I've become the equivalent of a gorilla trying to do math after I've entered med school 💀💀 Haven't done anything math-related (except some statistics) in the past 3 years. Good luck out there!
