Somrak Khamsing is a Thai superstar, a true once in a life time athlete with special gifts.
He is considered the best Muay Thai fighter to not capture a stadium belt despite beating all the champions in his weight classes.
Due to the politics he experienced, he went to boxing and grabbed an Olympic gold medal.
As the first Thai athlete to ever grab a gold medal in the Olympics, he became an instant superstar.
His record in Muay Thai stands at around 300W-12L, and boxing 150-50.
As a stylist, he is both a "Muay Mat and Muay Fimeu," which means he's a puncher who is an artistic technician.
He put together many tactics in boxing and combined it with Muay Thai. Perhaps his most spectacular fusion is his evasion and use of head movement in order to slip punches and elbows.
You may be interested to find out that Somrak is indeed the one who discovered and mentored the pound for pound great Saenchai.
In this feature, we also explore multiple techniques that Somrak specialized in.

The reason Somrak was not giving a title shot is all about business, His promotor is Big Eung Sahasompot Shisomvong who run a muaythai competition in channel 7 tv, Big Eung did not have any title belt in any weight class (due to that time most belts was under Songchai Rattanasuban the most famous promotor) And in thailand no rule to force the promotor to give the title shot to other promotor's fighters. SO most of the time the title match between the champ and the challenger will be the fighters of the same promotor. So even though Somrak is so good he cannot have the title chance.

Somrak said his greatest victory was "Against the man of 9 titles; Chamuekpet" (Had 4 lumpini titles, and 5 radjadern titles)
This shows how good Somrak was, 300W to 12L - he was able to outpoint Chamuekpet who was a very strong forward fighter who utilized Knee's and striking (he was very good at both so was able to get both Lumpini and Radja titles which was very difficult as they were scored on different criteria)
If Mayweather didn't get bronze that olympic he would have fought Somrak for the silver / gold. I wish that happened!
Somrak also fights similar to Oley Kiatoneway (if you don't know him - Look at his highlights NOW). I believe Somrak Beat Oley though when they fought.

Very difficult to do in UFC unless the striker has really great takedown defense. The threat of high level wrestling and grappling fighters will not allow such striking flow to happen. Khabib, GSP, Damien Maia, Woodley, Askren, Usman etc pressure opponents with the take downs.
Even the high level stadiums in Thailand have more forward clinch heavy fighters who are more dominant. Even Saenchai's losses have come from opponents who disregard his technical striking and just clinch the hell out of him.

    1. Sagat,
    2. Samart,
    3. Saenchai,
    4. Namsaknoi,
    5. Dieselnoi
My first kickboxing club was really inconsistent; they vilified Muay Thai and the instructors claimed how they defeated Muay Thai fighters and we barely did grappling- we'd do it less than once a month. It was a Pointfighting club that also did light continuos. Unfortunately the 3rd kickboxing club I trained at also thought this way. I trained at the second and third kickboxing clubs at the same time and the second club also did low kick training and no Pointfighting.

Don’t agree with the head movement comments. I’ve never heard of a coach going against head movement and telling fighters to avoid doing it. I’d love your source for this one
