  • Rich shows you his interpretation of a Randy Oliver varroa control frame. And a fast and easy way to put 9 brood frames in an 8 frame box.

Hi Rich. I'm a new beekeeper in Miami. I have 2 hives. One has failed with the wax worms. I'm subscribed and have been watching your videos for the last few days. I see that beeping in south Florida is different. Thank you for all that you share ! :-)

You’re welcome! That’s why we do it. Have you checked out the tropical beekeepers association? I believe they are in your area and you could learn a lot from a local bee club as well. I am in the Broward Beekeepers Assoc and you are also welcome to join our meetings.

Hi, Rich I’m new to bee keeping your videos are very helpful. I had an ant problem so I bought the bricks with slits and the iron fence poles. Thanks

Great, hope they work for you as well as they do for me. Remember also that cinnamon powder repels ants, that might be useful too.

Hello Rich I always put the frames in the freezer for a week to kill the mites an the Drone brood then I will put it back in the hive an the bees will open the cells an pull out the drones an discard them. That way the bees do not have to rebuild the frames . They can just go in an clean an polish the cells so the queen can get back to laying faster . THANKS

Using a full frame of drone comb, that will always work the best. Using the frames I was demonstrating, it depends on it they put honey above the comb, then yes we can just freeze it. If they put regular brood above the drone comb, then I like to just cut it out. I don’t want to sacrifice worker brood.

@southflbeekeepingwithrich ... what happened with this experiment?
I would enjoy seeing a few examples of filled out frames and an update.
    Thanks.

Absolutely nothing. They ignored those frames and put drones where they wanted. I just continued ripping open clusters of drone cells and looking for varroa.
