Something in today’s time we forget about is that back then we wrote checks just about every where. Groceries, clothing, gas stations, even some Convienence stores. When we did our address, phone number, even Drivers license number were required to be on the checks. Wasn’t uncommon for families to shop at the same stores. So a stalker or someone else that might want to do someone harm could get information that way and it’s happened. A friend had a break in at her house and that’s how they got her information. Hopefully they checked out employees from these places.

A neighbor, a delivery man or perhaps a fellow employee, maybe supplier. There are so many possibilities. Not sure how intensive the police investigation was.

    • @trishpipkins
      @trishpipkins 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yes!! It could even be a relative or friend of a neighbor that saw her. So frustrating because there isn't much to go on and she was clearly murdered.

I imagine her stalker followed her almost daily. I think he became enraged with jealousy after seeing her taking Conrad to the hospital and he made the decision to finish her. The phone calls to her family were a way of prolonging the connection with Dorothy. I hope her case is solved one day

I'd bet it was a police officer. I'm a huge supporter of the police force, but in this case the tools and freedom at their disposal would have been vital back then. He could surveil without suspicion, follow her while pretending to patrol, and get her personal information easily from the documents at his office.

There was a theory going around that the man who killed Dorothy might have been a supplier and that her father might have dealt with when he owned the place and that’s the reason why the killer never spoke when Dorothy’s dad would answer the phone. He feared that her dad would recognize his voice.

  • @ynp1978

That was an interesting case. I thought that was a great catch by you when you stated that when the caller hung up on her Dad....it could be that the caller knew that his voice might be recognized. Maybe the stalker was being fed some info from a another party....two people involved. (Maybe)!

*If Dorothy didn't have much to do with customers, what about a delivery guy or maybe a guy that worked at a food place she frequented for lunch?? There wouldn't be much conversation, so she likely wouldn't be able to pinpoint the voice*

Gabby, you did an excellent job covering this unsolved "horrific," murder of Dorothy Jane Scott. It's very puzzling inregards to the phone calls to her parents, even after her death, this was truly a person who had a twisted mental obsession with Dorothy Scott. May she rest in eternal peace.🌹 I hope that this case will be solved one day soon. Again, great investigating and presentation, too. Take care 🦋

I think the killer is someone that knew her dad, I only say that because why fear speaking to her father, but not her mother, I get the feeling that if dad heard the voice, he’d know who it is, this would have to be someone who has worked or came to the place of business and was a normal visitor.

As someone who has 1st hand experienced stalking for many years, I can confirm it is utterly terrifying, it takes over your life, almost every moment you are on edge, watching your back, looking over your shoulder and expecting the worst but with no clue when or what might happen. I'm talking about the last 14yrs, and still there's little to no protection. I really hope the bastard responsible for Dorothy's stalking, kidnapping and murder is found and brought to justice if possible in her son's lifetime. Someone out there knows something...

Since she and her family knew she had a stalker and that he could be a killer, I think both Dorothy and her family took care of every car/person near their houses. So, I doubt someone followed her from work to home to leave her son to her parents. In this case, he was at her work place and he heard her telling she was tooking Conrad to the hospital and was there when she was there. He waited for her to be alone. Or things are more awful than we can think... Anyway, I would have checked every move she and her co-workers did IN the hospital.

Given the usual police delay in starting to investigate her disappearance, the killer would have had plenty of time to return to the hospital to retrieve their own vehicle, without attracting suspicion. Which reduces the likelihood that it was a random abduction. If the police had secured the hospital car park immediately, they would likely have caught them.

In those days, hospitals were more strict about people being allowed to stay after visiting hours were over. Except In cases of extreme emergency. Then they would make allowances for the closest family member to stay with them, everyone else had to leave, unless the patient was dying. So any cars left in the parking lot after visiting hours would most likely belong to the staff. It would probably have been easy to spot an unfamiliar vehicle that had been left behind. But even if they had noticed one, they may have brushed it off and went on with their business.

But they’d also have to know her parents probably through overhearing Dorothy talk abt them. I’d say coworkers are at the top even if she didn’t recognize his voice. My heart goes out to her son. A bodyguard would have been helpful when the number changed. WHERE were the POLICE at THIS TIME? As for her mom l would have my husband answer the phone whenever possible. The jerk was never going to give her info anyway. And he would have stopped calling.

    Hi Gabby,
I have always loved the niche you've chosen for yourself of the vintage crimes. The passage of time certainly adds to the mystery of these cases. Thank you for talking about the issue of stalking and for providing resources to deal with it. I know a lot of people who make jokes, like "what would you do if your stalker wrote you a 12 page love letter?" And certainly a lot of people glamorize it, or think something like "she's so lucky to have someone be that obsessed with her." I had an individual enter my life in 2020 and within a handful of months had turned my life upside down with a relentless and unwanted pursuit, even driving me out of my job and to a new one. I'd been in the new job for about a month when he stormed in, grabbed me and started threatening me because he'd gotten in trouble. He said things like, "Baby. BABY. If I can't have you, no one can." and "you and I are together whether you like it or not." and "you're going to pay for this, you stupid slut." The next night I was out on my deck when I heard car doors slamming, people running by the side of my house and then two people were literally behind my garage whisper arguing about 'she' and 'her'. I was terrified, went inside, and saw a car parked right on the other side of the road and it was still running. I caught him in my driveway the next day in broad daylight- and thank god that after that, he moved away. This was only back in November, and re-establishing your sense of trust in the world post-stalking is so hard after you've lived through that kind of paranoia and terror.
Thank you for bringing attention to this terrifying issue.

such a sad story...I'm happy that her son grew up, and was able to start a life of his own...the stalker was beyond demented, and in my opinion, was directly or indirectly related to her place of employment.

I love all your collabs with crimeblogger1983! Amazing resarch job, I learned so many new information. This story really both freaked me out and broke my heart the first time I heard about it and I regularly think about it. It looks like she was a very sweet person, the one we would like to have as a friend. You really honored her memory in your video, it was very touching. You also did a very interesting analysis. I hope justice can be done one day.

Stalkers are the most dangerous people ever imo. I think people should not judge Dorthy for walking to the car that night because she had to always be scared and could never be safe and had to continue living life as she should have been able too.

This is just so sad. Her stalker must have had a connection to the store or something in her daily routine… like a cashier at a gas station she always went to, likely one that her folks also went to… but to me, the probability lies with a connection to the store. Either a relative of a coworker or a supplier… someone she might deal with infrequently but perhaps who her dad had dealt with more often when he owned the place. It’s so sad and my heart goes out to her son.

This case really creeped me out having had a similar situation when I was in my early 20’s. Someone was calling my parents and friends claiming we were co-workers. They would ask about & discuss me on these calls I guess to obtain info on me and my whereabouts. My dad said the caller was real “cool”. They said it sounded like an older white man. How he got their numbers I have no idea (this was the early 2000’s). I’d get strange phone calls on my house phone with someone disguising their voice. The calls only stopped when this person called one of my actual (male) co-workers who vetted the caller then the person quickly hung up. I was so young and naive back then I never considered being kidnapped or needing to notify authorities so that could trace the calls. In my case I have no idea who this person was and didn’t suspect anyone I was personally associated with. It’s totally possible Dorothy didn’t know her stalker/killer. I pray that Dorthy’s son gets justice for his mom 🙏🏽.

I think it was a man her father's age, and a neighbour of her parents. It seems like Dorothy was at her parent's place a lot dropping off, and picking up her son. And her place of work was nearby. I imagine a quiet, painfully average guy across the street from her parent's house with binoculars waiting to see her, and if he didn't see her there on a particular day, walking down to her workplace to catch her coming out to get a coffee on her break, or at the end of her shift. I think he knew Dorothy's mother as well, and revelled in tormenting her with his altered voice. But he was afraid of Dorothy's father, because he might recognize his voice or speech patterns, and because like all bullies, was too chickenshit to antagonize someone who could do something about it.
He spoke to Dorothy's father on the regular, at least weekly, but only about things like gardening, or sports, small talk stuff. I bet he shyly volunteered to put up some of Dorothy's MISSING posters. And then gloated without expression as he burned them in his backyard with the shavings from his little woodworking projects in the garage. He thought about building a birdhouse and hiding a lock of Dorothy's hair inside the next box for the birds to weave their nests. He could hang it, late at night, in the tree in the parent's front yard. But he chickened out. He was not brave.
He was a guy other people didn't think about much. He was delighted to be thought about daily, by proxy, for decades as her case dragged on for decades. He would live in his house and watch Dorothy's parents as long as they were alive, his secret a warm blanket that made him special. I imagine him now, very old, sitting in the window of an assisted-living facility, trying so hard to remember the thing he needs to remember, that thing he did. But he can't. And it makes him very sad.
I think the Deena Braem unsolved murder from 1999 would be an excellent case for you to cover. There is the case itself, and then the murky and bizarre rumours online about how she was killed by the RCMP and it was covered up. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/deena-braem-murder-still-unsolved-20-years-after-teen-s-death-1.5298645 and a guy named Lonny Landrud th-cam.com/video/26CrTLEVNvQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TankAbbott

DOGS AS SPIRIT GUIDES FOR THE DEAD IN MESOAMÉRICA. Somebody might have already pointed this out on here, but unfortunately I am just taking a little break from a project and was watching your show and so don’t have time to read the comments. I have been an archaeologist for the Mexican government for about 42 years now. It is well known that for thousands of years in Prehispanic Mesoamerica, dogs (the Xoloitzcuintle) were often buried with the dead in order to guide them through the dangers of the underworld (“Mictlán”). I think there are other cultures around the world that either do or in the past did do this as well. But I only know about my own area of expertise. It could have absolutely nothing at all to do with why she was buried with the dog, but there are still people who like to try to “revive” ancient traditions that have not existed in a long time, so I wouldn’t totally overlook this myself. If for any reason you would like more information about this, it is very easy to find me. I’m always happy to help, I’m just sorry I didn’t have more time tonight to look for a good article to send you. Always love your content…you do a fabulous job!

P.S. I just realized that I should have specified that not everybody had the privilege of having a dog buried with them. The person was usually very beloved, special or even revered. I sincerely doubt that this is why the dog is in there with her, it probably has nothing to do with what I’m talking about. However, if her stalker did it and he was so smitten with her and for whatever reason was prone practicing this ritual, it would be befitting.

Why on earth would you go walking in a parking lot alone and the other two stayed together in the hospital. Did Conrad need Pam to support him while getting his prescription? If I were being stalked/harrassed I wouldn't ever do anything to make it easier for someone to harm me.

It's so easy for people to say if I were being stalked I wouldn't do this or that. Her actions and her colleagues didn't cost her life, it was the murderer that cost her life.

After Dorothy was finally found and buried, I would think the police would've kept an eye out at her funeral (chances are they did) for anyone suspicious and days/weeks following, set up surveillance at the cemetery to see if anyone was visiting her grave. The sicko may have already thought of that and kept his distance.
    Highly disturbing case.

The perpetrator could've known Dorothy's father and maybe spoke to Dorothy on a couple of occasions (which would explain why he sounded familiar to her). Or, he's some creep who doesn't have any problems with terrorizing women; but is nonconfrontational with men.

Don't know why, but I got a funny feeling when the picture of dad came up. I would never want to point fingers but he wasn't there when the phone calls were made (except that one call, and he could have made that up), he would know times/dates of the family and some fathers are very cautious with their daughters. Also the line of work he was in. Just a theory and I feel very bad for this theory if he had nothing to do with it.

Perhaps they worked at the hospital? If she had been a patient there, he may have had access to her information.

At first i thought it might be one of her coworkers because they seemed to know her father and he was their regular handyman. But no one said anything about having a strange coworker (if he was that crazy im sure itd be noticeable that he was at least a little strange).
So i think it was a delivery guy maybe. If it was a long time driver, he wouldve known her dad from when he owned the place, ans if he was newer, he cpuldve met her dad while he was there working on stuff.
I really hope they figure out her case so everyone can rest.
