    • @fratercorleonis
      @fratercorleonis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They looked into it, but couldn't file charges because while the cause of death was listed as drowning, the manner of death was ruled inconclusive. Remember, this was 1968. They didn't have all the technical tools we have today at their disposal. The cops knew who did it but it was a matter of PROVING it in court.

      I think Patricia let it go because she was more worried about her own children. If he had Mindi and killed her, chances were that he wouldn't be in touch with Patricia anymore. So as long as she didn't involve the police, he was fancy free. I really hope he suffered and was not killed immediately.

    I was literally rescued the same year as Mindy went missing. Child protection was a joke even here in Canada back then. Neighbours would call the police saying i was being beaten. The police would tell her to do what she was doing more quietly. I was 6 at the time. My mother verbally and physically abused me while selling me to men for drugs as early as 2 or even younger. A couple if church people who suspected abuse befriended my mother and one day caught her slamming my face into a car door because i wanted to get my stuffed animal. They grabbed me and took me straight to the Childrens Aid, if hot for them this could have been me. My mother was entirely capable as she tortured and strangled me etc. Im so very fortunate i got to live. I wish Mindy was afforded that right also.

All those other signs that were PRESENT before she ever went missing... SO FRUSTRATING! And FYI: Allen was a piece of sh*t... just needed to say that.

    • @oAgL214
      @oAgL214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. I reported my sister-in-law to CPS years ago and they did nothing. She often tells them(her 5 kids ages 6-16) that if the police or CPS ever finds out she hits them and verbally abuses them. They'll take them to a place where they'll separate them, will never see each other again and they'll r@pe them. With those words too. The 1st time I heard her say that, the youngest child was 4. This is infuriating. I can literally write a book of all the abuse and neglect. I don't go to her home anymore as I can't deal with that.

    • @fratercorleonis

    I remember this case, since I grew up in Tempe and am the same age as Mindi. The cops were infuriating in this era. They always sided with men. I also made a complaint about my father (for the same reasons) and was just quietly dismissed. As a girl/woman, it was almost impossible to get any justice.
    I've been binge-watching you, Gabby, and love your extensive research! There's another case that was very close to me around this time. Pamela Newton was killed in 1978 in Mesa, AZ and her murder has never been solved. I have some newspaper articles from this time but I haven't found much out about it online. Needless to say, the Phoenix "metropolitan" area was a dangerous place for young women in the '70s and '80s. Kudos to you for not letting these victims be forgotten.

    Thinking of that monster in Austria who imprisoned his daughter in his basement dungeon, I wonder if Mindi's father didn't take her & lock her away somewhere, to molest at his leisure. Why else would he want her things? He could have kept her for years, even after his remarriage, & then after his accidental death, she might have simply starved to death wherever she was confined. It doesn't bear thinking about, but I have to say it sounds like his style. ⛓

    Love the eyeliner. If this was in Arizona they pronounce Mesa as MAY SAH. This case was heartbreaking. My own daughter has passed now, but when I think of her at age 12 she was a total child. Some people say, "Well, she was almost a teenager," but my daughter was a lot closer to 11 than she was to being 13. For Mindi, at that tender young age and living with a monster, with nobody to turn to, she must have been terrified. I think we need to re-evaluate how we punish people who rape, torture or murder children. People who do that are not going to change into model citizens and if they get away with it they're going to do it again to some other child. The law should be that if you murder a child you get a mandatory death sentence. A child's whole life will be scarred from abuse like this, they may wind up addicted to drugs or involved in prostitution or suicidal, so these perpetrators need to be in jail for much longer sentences for all the pain and suffering they are causing. If they are released they need to be under DAILY scrutiny from a probation officer, wear a leg monitor, adhere to a strict 8 pm curfew and take random drug/alcohol tests.

    The clerk was a friend of Patricia, but we don't know how much Patricia had told the clerk about family details. The clerk may have known too much but not enough. The clerk likely knew Mindi's father, Allen, was forcing her into a car. If the clerk had not recognized Allen he would likely have called police. Or, if the clerk had known Allen's full background he likely would have called police. But if the clerk had only limited knowledge, what he saw was a dad putting his child in a car over the child's objections. It wouldn't help that Mindi was so small that she would have looked much younger than she was. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

    I’m not trying to shit talk the half mother but if there are relatives on the maternal side she could have been tested against I’m not sure why they decided to test her against her half sibling. There is always a chance no matter how small that it might not have been the mans child. In my mind it would make more logical sense to test someone from the mothers side because mindy physically came out of her and it’s a guaranteed relation. On the other hand with a half sibiling you just have to take the word of their parents that they were faithful and it was his sperm that created that child. For a birth certificate the father just has to sign it and that’s it and many times that has been proven to be false and just that signature isn’t enough to get custody from the mom of the child but somehow it’s enough to completely rule out a Jane doe??

      Well I am from America...and have been married once for 33 years! You do make a good point though. The United States has one of the top divorce rates in the world. (I think Russia leads the way). Nearly 50% of all first time marriages in the U.S end in divorce. And that rate goes up and up with a second and third marriage. I am certainly not an expert on the subject....but I spent many years working in a state prison system and the number of folks who end up in prison from broken marriages is staggering. I am sure they have more drug use and emotional problems too. Well my folks had been married for 60 years when my Dad passed away so maybe I had a good example to follow! Just an opinion but I believe that the most important factor when getting married is by far compatibility. Far more important than money,looks,sex or what have you. Anyway I will get off my soap box. Have a nice day!

      My parents were married 28 years before my dad passed. It was a Rocky marriage. I'm married almost 7 years. I know it's not much but I'm Catholic and I'm very blessed. Divorce rate is very high is the USA.

    Can you do a video on the Garden State Parkway murders please? I'd really love to see someone with some reach like you cover it! I know that as far as sources go there's been a book written about it, and there should be some older articles somewhere online. I live right across the street from the Inn where the girls, Susan and Elizabeth, were staying right before they died so I feel close to the case. I'd just really love to see this case get some attention!

      Submit it to her email address in the description. She will have a much better chance of seeing it there.
