This subject is often defended on the premise that it is the only way in which the divinity of Christ, the plurality of God, and the personality of the Holy Spirit can be preserved.
Scripture clearly declares the Son of God to be fully divine, "being in the form of God" Phil 2:6, "equal with God" John 5:18 because "God is his Father." Before "the Word was made flesh" John 1:14, he "was with God" and "was God" in nature, "For the Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hands" John 3:35, including the Spirit without measure (verse 34), "for as the Father has life in Himself so has He given to the Son to have life in Himself" (John 5:26). The Son is "before all things" Col 1:17 because "all things were made by him and for him" (verse 16; John 1:2; 1Cor 8:6; Eph 3:9).
Scripture plainly speaks of the person of God and His Son who is "the express image of His person" Heb 1:3. "There is one God the Father, of whom are all things" 1Cor 8:6. "The great Source of all" Desire of Ages p. 21. "There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" 1Tim 2:5. "We have an Advocate (Gr. parakletos) before the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous" 1John 2:1. "Truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ" 1John 1:3. "God is the Father of Christ; Christ is the Son of God." "He has been made equal with the Father." 8T p. 268.3. "All through the Scriptures, the Father and the Son are spoken of as two distinct personages." RH July 13, 1905.3.
Scripture describes the personality of Spirit. "God is a Spirit" John 4:24. "The last Adam [Christ] was made a quickening Spirit" 1Cor 15:45. "That which is born of the Spirit is Spirit" John 3:6. This was "the Spirit of Christ which was in [the prophets]" 1Peter 1:10,11. The divine Son of God, Spirit just like the Father, "took on him the seed [nature] of Abraham" Heb 2:16, "the Word was made flesh." "The divine nature [Spirit] in the person of Christ...and the human nature [flesh] of the Son of man...were mysteriously blended." "He was not the Father but in Him dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" 6MR 112.3. "The Holy Spirit is Himself, divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Christ would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit,-as the Omnipresent." Present Truth UK, May 30, 1895.7. Christ is the only divine person invested with humanity from which His divine nature, His Spirit, can be divested. "God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying, Abba, Father" Galatians 4:6. Thus we see the Lamb after His sacrificial death and resurrection standing before the Father's throne "having seven eyes which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth" Rev 5:6, our omnipresent Comforter (Gr. parakletos). For Jesus , who is the truth (John 14:6) said the Spirit of truth "shall be in you" John 14:17; "I will come to you" verse 18; "And in that day you shall know that I am in the Father...and I in you" verse 20. "The Spirit of your Father speaks in you" Matt 10:20, "and We will come and make our abode" with you (John 14:23).

i haven't watched this yet, about to do so. The "Trinity" as normally taught and established/confirmed at the Council of Nicaea is false. C'mon SDAs (of which I am one myself). We understand Constantine was wrong about Sunday worship, so why would we think he got the "Trinity" malarkey correct ?
    1 Corinthians 15:28
Then, when all things are under his authority, the Son will put himself under God’s authority, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.
Does that match up with Constantine's idea from the council at Nicaea of "God the Son" and "God in flesh form", "God died on the cross" etc ??

I was born into a SDA family and always believed in the ‘trinity: god the father, god the son, and god the holy spirit until recently; however, studying the Scriptures with the Spirit of Prophecy and our Pioneers beliefs, I can wholeheartedly say that all those who believe as such are wrong. The trinity doctrine is a false doctrine which was brought into the church primarily by LeRoy Froom who was a Jesuit Catholic priest and joined the SDA church for the sole purpose to deceive and mislead many thus leading them to perdition. Please study the Scriptures and Spirit of Prophecy diligently with prayer and find out for yourself that NONE of our Pioneers nor Sister White believed in the trinity. For example, she refuted Dr Kellog and Brother Chapman who came to believe in god the father, god the son and god the holy spirit, three gods in unity, thus god the holy spirit being a different person to the Father and the Son [Jesus Christ.] Here just a few quotes from Sister White and some of our Pioneers on this matter, which trinitarians are ignoring:
    "Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His Father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself, divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall [although unseen by you] teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ... Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” {Lt119-1895.18}
"The Son of God shared the Father's throne, and the glory of the eternal, self-existent One encircled both. . . . none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will" (PP, p. 36).
"After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father and Son carried out their purpose, which was designed before the fall of Satan, to make man in their own image. They had wrought together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon it. And now God says to his Son, "Let us make man in our image." (ST Jan. 9, 1879; par. 13).
"In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the Sabbath after Their work of creation." (DA p.769, par.2).
“The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, is truly God in infinity, but not in personality. Ellen White, Upward Look, page 367
“Christ has given HIS Spirit as a divine power.” - (E.G. White, RH, Nov 19, 1908)
“How few realize that Jesus, unseen, is walking by their side!” - (E.G. White, 14MR 125.3)
“He [Christ] is an unseen presence in the PERSON of the HOLY SPIRIT,” - (E.G. White, DG 185.2, 1897)
“The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God; it is also the Spirit of Christ.” U. Smith, GC Daily Bulletin, Vol. 4, March 1891, pp. 146, 147
“Here we find that the Holy Spirit is both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ.” E. J. Waggoner, Christ and His Righteousness, p. 23, 1890
“We learn from this language that when we speak of the Spirit of God we are really speaking of his presence and power.” J. N. Loughborough, Review & Herald, September 13, 1898
“The divine Spirit that the world’s Redeemer promised to send is the presence and power of God.” Signs of the Times, November 23, 1891
“We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ.” E. G. White, Lt66, April 10, 1894
This is another statement of Sister White which says, I quote:
Before the entrance of evil, there was peace and joy throughout the universe. All was in perfect harmony with the Creator’s will. Love for God was supreme, love for one another impartial. Christ the Word, the only begotten of God, was one with the eternal Father,-one in nature, in character, and in purpose,-the only being in all the universe that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. (Great Controversy, 493)
If this is true, then, how is it that Christ was the ONLY BEING in all the universe that could enter into ALL THE COUNSELS and PURPOSES of God? Where was the ’god the holy spirit?’ After all, if he is ‘god’ being co-eternal and co-equal with the Father, how is it that he could not enter into all the counsels and purposes of God?
We MUST be very careful in what we believe as the devil is running to and fro on the face of this earth to deceive as many as he can. Therefore, study the Scriptures, the Spirit of Prophecy and the beliefs of our Pioneers for yourselves and let none foul you. We need to do like the Bereans, who went home and studied the Scriptures for themselves to see if it were so!

I believe you are misapplying Ellen White's statements. Here's one for you to think about:
      "The Comforter that Christ promised to send after He ascended to heaven, is the Spirit in all the fullness of the Godhead, making manifest the power of divine grace to all who receive and believe in Christ as a personal Saviour. There are three living persons of the heavenly trio. In the name of these three powers,--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, those who receive Christ by living faith are baptized, and these powers will cooperate with the obedient subjects of heaven in their efforts to live the new life in Christ." {BTS, March 1, 1906 par. 2}

Mr. Berki, you are right. The Bible and the early founders including Mr/Mrs. White did not believe in the Trinity. Neither did the writers of the new testament .

@@timoflink2686 You are utterly wrong! If the trinity doctrine were true, then it would cause a huge conflict in Scripture and SOP, but not so. No matter how hard trinitarian Christians try to support this spurious and false pagan doctrine, it is not in Scripture, nor did the Lord's messenger believed in.
The heavenly “trio” are: God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and their Holy Spirit (not a trio of gods!). There is one God, and one Lord and one Spirit (the Spirit of Christ), not a trio of co-equal divine beings (see Romans 8:9-11).
The Father is all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He is invisible to us mortals. The only way we can know God (His Godhead) is if He is manifested. Christ inherited the Godhead (divinity) of His Father and is therefore “all the fullness of the Godhead manifested” All the fullness that dwells in the Son of God is His birthright and inheritance (Hebrews 1:4). This divine fullness dwells in Christ because it pleased the Father (Colossians 2:9; 1:19). Christ possessed, by divine birth, the glory of His Father (Hebrews 1:3; John 1:14; 2 Corinthians 4:6).

Please do your own study with the help of the Holy Spirit of God and Christ, and don't listen to fables.

@@rudolfberki8683 May I suggest you study this again. Godhead = Trinity or as Ellen White says, "the heavenly trio". Trinity does not mean three gods or trio of gods. Such a concept is called Tritheism. For us as Adventists, Trinity means the heavenly trio (and vice versa, whichever way you want to put it). You are wrong when you say that Christ inherited divinity. Ellen White explicitly denies that in Desire of Ages. There is no such thing as divine birth. That too is denied by SOP, because it is a twisting of Scripture.

@@timoflink2686 The word “Godhead” simply means “Divine”. So, God, (the Father,) and His Son, (Jesus Christ,) are divine.
The Spirit of Prophecy tells us that:
      a. “The Father is all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and is invisible to mortal sight.” {SpTB07 62},
      b. “The Son is all the fullness of the Godhead manifested.”{SpTB07 63}; and
      c. “The Comforter that Christ promised to send after He ascended to heaven, is the Spirit in all the fullness of the Godhead, making manifest the power of divine grace to all who receive and believe in Christ as a personal Saviour. {AG 195.2}”
Therefore the Father and the Son ARE ALL the fullness of the Godhead, but the Holy Spirit IS IN ALL the fullness of the Godhead, in both the Father and the Son. And this is the true Godhead.
The Scriptures tell us that the Holy Spirit is the 'Spirit of God' (Gen. 1:2; 41:38; Ex. 31:3; 35:31; Num. 24:2; 1 Sam. 10:10; 19:20, 23; 2 Chron. 24:20; Job 27:3; Ezek. 11:24; Mat. 3:16; 12:28; etc.) or the 'Spirit of the Lord God' (Isa. 21:1) and Spirit of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:19; 1 Pet. 1:11), and not a separate divine being from the Father and the
Son, as it never refers to as the 'Lord' or 'God' the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit of Prophecy tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter and the Comforter is Jesus Christ, I quote:
      “Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His Father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself, divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall [although unseen by you] teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ... Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” {Lt119-1895.18}
“Christ came to our world, but the world could not endure His purity. He has gone to His Father, but He has sent His Holy Spirit to represent Him in the world till he shall come again.” - (E.G. White, Ms1, Jan 11, 1897)
“This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter.” - (E.G. White, 14MR 179.2)
“Christ has given HIS Spirit as a divine power.” - (E.G. White, RH, Nov 19, 1908)
“The promise of the Holy Spirit is not limited to any age or to any race. Christ declared that the divine influence of His Spirit was to be with His followers unto the end. From the Day of Pentecost to the present time, the Comforter has been sent to all who have yielded themselves fully to the Lord and to His service.” - (E.G. White, AA, 49.2)
“As by faith we look to Jesus, our faith pierces the shadow, and we adore God for His wondrous love in giving JESUS THE COMFORTER.” - (E.G. White, 19MR 297.3)
“JESUS comes to you as the SPIRIT OF TRUTH;” - (E.G. White, 2MR 337.1)
“We cannot be with CHRIST in person, as were His first disciples, but He has sent HIS HOLY SPIRIT to GUIDE US INTO ALL TRUTH, and through this power we too can bear witness for the Saviour. [John 16:13 quoted]” - (E.G. White, Ms30, June 18, 1900)
“CHRIST has left HIS HOLY SPIRIT to be HIS REPRESENTATIVE in the world,” - (E.G. White, Lt84, October 22, 1895)
“O, how we GRIEVE the pure, HOLY SPIRIT OF CHRIST with our defiling sins!” - (E.G. White, RH, July 5, 1898)
So, according to the Scriptures and Spirit of Prophecy the Holy Spirit IS NOT a separate divine being as we, SDAs, were told. Sadly, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has been infiltrated, taken over and run by the Jesuits, so the “trinity: god the father, god the son and god the holy spirit” is a pagan doctrine brought in primarily by LeRoy Froom who I found to be a Jesuit Catholic priest.

The Trinity teaching is the wrong teachings of the Catholic Church! Not found in the whole Bibel!! Matthew 28:19 don't belong to the Bibel! You find it absolutely not in the Hebrew version! This are the right Verse, Acts 8:12+16. acts 10:48+ 19:5. Acts 22:16 and Roman 6:3 and 1 Corintians 1:13 + Galater 3:27. Ann so to 1 John 5:7 was addet later before 1500s ,and not found in Greek manuscripts! It is an interpolation, parenthetical comment wich is presumably added inn margin which is later incorporated into the Text. And John Harvey Kellogs was rejected from EGWhite!!

To Paul! He did not ever recognised the Trinity!! Only two Persons 1 Corinthians 1:3+ 2 Corinthians 1:3 and Galatians 1:3 + 1 Thessalonians 1:1 + 2 Thessalonians 1:2. So 1 Timothy 1:2.Titus 1:4 and Philemon 1:3 All of these greetings are without variation-the holy Spirit is consistently left out( a great oversight ---- indeed blasphemy, provided the Trinity Doctrine teachings!!!) Then the holy Spirit is not a Person, so he can apier as Dove, Fire, and so on!as it God Almighty please! And read WGWhites report on " Western Tour"!!!

What the bible & the spirit of prophecy said?
The Holy Spirit, which proceeds from the only begotten Son of God - RH, April 5, 1906
Note: Only 2 divine Being create the world
The Father and the Son engaged in the mighty, wondrous work they had contemplated, of creating the world... After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father and Son carried out their purpose, which was designed before the fall of Satan, to make man in their own image. They had wrought together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon it. And now God said to His Son, "Let Us make man in Our image" - EGW, The Spirit of Prophecy, vol.1, pg.24,25
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ; it is His representative - 13MR 313.3, 1895
Christ has left His Holy Spirit to be His representative in the world - Lt84, October 22, 1895
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, which is sent to all men to give them sufficiency - 14MR 84.3
We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ - Lt66, April 10, 1894
..but it is the leaven of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, which is sent down from heaven, called the Holy Ghost - Ms36-1891
They have one God and one Saviour; and one Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, is to bring unity into their ranks - 9T 189.3, 1909
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:9
Finally, we know the Divine unity of the Father and the Son from the fact that both have the same Spirit. Paul, after saying that they that are in the flesh cannot please God, continues: "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." Rom. 8:9. Here we find that the Holy Spirit is both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ - E.J. Waggoner, CAHR, p.23, 1890
All things Christ received from God - DA, p. 21
The Father gave HIS Spirit without measure to HIS Son - RH, November 5, 1908
They were two, yet little short of being identical; two in individuality, yet one in spirit, and heart, and character - Youth's Instructor, Descember 16, 1897
This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter - 14MR 179.2
I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you - John 14:18
Note: His Spirit is A DISTINCT PERSONALITY, the Holy Spirit has a personality

Jesus is present in the PERSON of His representative, the Holy Spirit - 12MR 145.2, 1898
The spirit of every living being has a personality because our spirit is our personality. So the Holy Spirit has a personality because God and His Son have a personality. "In giving us His Spirit, God gives us Himself," (E.G. White, 7T 273.1, 1902)
Note: His Spirit DIVESTED of the personality of humanity AND INDEPENDENT
"Cumbered with humanity, CHRIST could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is [Christ] HIMSELF, divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. HE would represent Himself as present in all places by HIS Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent." ..he (Satan) did not want to occupy a second place, but to be next to God. He would have the Lord Jesus become second to him,... he was jealous of Christ, the Saviour... his craving to be the highest one next to God - EGW, Ms74, March 20, 1910
Christ gave His representative, the third person of the Godhead, the Holy spirit - EGW, CTr 301.4
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ; it is His representative - EGW, 13MR 313.3, 1895
Note : Power to resist & overcome sin
Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the third person of the Godhead - DA, 671.2
There is no power in you apart from Christ, but it is your privilege to have Christ abiding in your heart by faith, and He can overcome sin in you, when you cooperate with His efforts - EGW, Our High Calling, 76.5
With His spirit Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin - EGW, Review and Herald, May 19, 1904

By His humanity, Christ touched humanity; by His divinity, He lays hold upon the throne of God. As the Son of man, He gave us an example of obedience; as the Son of God, He gives us power to obey. DA 24.3
Note : Below, several statement indicate there are ONLY 2 Divine Being (using the word ALONE to express it)
The Father and the Son ALONE are to be exalted - EGW, The Youth's Instructor, July 7, 1898
God and Christ ALONE know what the souls of men have cost - EGW, Signs of the Times, January 13, 1909
God informed Satan that to his Son ALONE He would reveal his secret purposes... - EGW, Signs of the Times, January 9, 1879
No man, nor even the highest angel, can estimate the great cost; it is known ONLY to the Father and the Son - EGW, The Bible Echo, October 28, 1895
The ONLY Being who was one with God lived the law in humanity, descended to the lowly life of a common laborer, and toiled at the carpenter's bench with His earthly parent - EGW, Signs of the Times, October 14, 1897
Christ the Word, the only-begotten of God, was one with the eternal Father, one in nature, in character, and in purpose, the ONLY being in all the universe that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. By Christ, the Father wrought in the creation of all heavenly beings - EGW, GC p.493

.. in giving HIS Holy Spirit, He is giving to them the glory which the Father has given him, that He and his people may be one in God - EGW, Signs of the Times, October 3, 1892
When the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the early church, the whole multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul. The Spirit of Christ made them one. This is the fruit of abiding in Christ - EGW, GCDB, February 6, 1893
The promise of the Holy Spirit is not limited to any age or to any race. Christ declared that the divine influence of HIS Spirit was to be with His followers unto the end. From the day of pentecost to the present time, the Comforter has been sent to all who have yielded themselves fully to the Lord and to His service - EGW, Acts of the Apostles, 49.2
Christ came to our world, but the world could not endure His purity. He has gone to His Father, but He has sent HIS Holy Spirit to represent Him in the world till he shall come again - EGW, Ms1, January 11, 1897
HE would represent Himself as present in all places by HIS Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent." (Ellen G. White, Lt119, February 18, 1895)

Funny.....you didnt mention James and Ellen White as our Pioneer anti-trinitarians as well!!!

While James at first was non-Trinitarian, that is not true of Ellen White. She was a Methodist and therefore Trinitarian, but did not address the issue until later on.

One sda pastor said, the three gods drew straws to see who would become the son. Another sda pastor said, jesus is god and he died therefore god died. A pastor's wife said, jesus christ didn't die like we die, only his body died but not his spirit. Another sda pastor said, the father and son relationship between jesus christ and god the father is metiphorical and not literal. An sda evangelist said, jesus christ created the earth and god helped, he also said, jesus christ is not begotten, he has always existed and the word begotten should never have been used in the bible in regards to jesus christ. An sda sabbath school teacher said, I'm ok with there being three gods, in fact as far as I am concerned, the more gods the better. Another sda told me, the bible may say that if you believe in one god you do well but he thought that if you believed in three you did even better. Another sda told me, she said, you are never going to convince me there aren't three gods. I have had a number of sda members and s.s. teachers tell me that they believe that jesus christ is the creator god of the old testament and is the one who drowned everyone in Noah's flood and burned up everyone in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah including babies, small children and pregnant women. Maybe this is the reason for another change in sda policy and moral value. See youtube video, 'the shocking history of abortion in the seventhday adventist church by prolife andrew'. The sda church went from prolife to straddling the fence to prodeath in sda hospitals and adventist run abortion clinics. So should we as a denomination be dancing naked before the lord around a golden calf god (it's all about the money) and should we be offering children as human sacrifices to the god moloch or should we not be doing those things??? Also see youtube videos on, 'nontrinitarian and antitrinitarian seventhday adventists', there are a lot of them on the sda change in theology and their exchange of gods and their new unbegotten roll playing son of god playing the part of god the son. Someone once asked me if I thought this was a salvation issue and I told him I thought it was. How about you, what do you think???

This issue is one that the Word of God should be quite specific on but is not. A central doctrine of Catholicism being adopted by a so called protestant faith seems so ridiculous that you would expect that it would be quickly identified as a seduction towards acceptance into the worldly view of Christianity. A way in which to end the suffering from being identified as something other than. At this point the non-biblical ideals have opened the door to becoming just like what we originally warned against. The Bible seems to be quite easily understood when we don't rely on man's interpretation. Nowhere does it say that your salvation relies on a belief in a trinity. So, for the Adventist church to spend so many hours trying to prove the validity of a central Catholic doctrine and to continue to use it as a test of our faith, is a shame. So many souls lost to such a costly endeavor.
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. - 1 Corinthians 8:6 King James Version
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. - James 1:27 (KJV)

@@TripleJJJLogic You should read more carefully what we Adventist say about the Trinity, because there are differences how we understand it and how Catholics understand it.

@@johnwilkinson6542 I'm not sure what you mean, but here's a clear Trinitarian statement from Ellen White:
      "The Comforter that Christ promised to send after He ascended to heaven, is the Spirit in all the fullness of the Godhead, making manifest the power of divine grace to all who receive and believe in Christ as a personal Saviour. There are three living persons of the heavenly trio. In the name of these three powers,--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, those who receive Christ by living faith are baptized, and these powers will cooperate with the obedient subjects of heaven in their efforts to live the new life in Christ." {BTS, March 1, 1906 par. 2}

The original Nicene creed of 325 AD is directly based on 1Corinthians 8:6 "There is one God the Father, of whom are all things...and one Lord Jesus Christ by whom are all things." It rightly stated the origin of the Son begotten from the Father, "God from God, light from light" and simply ended with the words, "And we believe in the Holy Spirit." It was later additions, particularly at the Council of Constantinople in 381 which added "...the Lord and giver of life, who proceedeth from the Father..." Scripture teaches that it is the Father and the Son who give life. "For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will" John 5:21. "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son" 1John 5:11. Rather than demonstrating that the Spirit gives life, Scripture states that the Spirit is life. Jesus said the words that He speaks "are Spirit and they are life" John 6:63. It is "the water of life" which Jesus promises to give to those who ask (John 4:10,14); it is "the river of water of life which proceeds from the throne of God and the Lamb" (the Father and the Son) Rev 22:1.
