    My respect goes to all the hard-working tire men in Pakistani. I did it after 46 years in the USA, and I still love to do it all over again if I can. Now I am 70 and just retired, from Oregon. USA ( I was weight only 50kg or 130 pounds).

    The Man is a hard working legend!. I was an HGV apprentice in the early seventies and used to change tyres like these we used to use a cage for inflation if those split rims don't seat right it's game over.

      He propped the bar on the chuck and scooted, I hope they just have the air pressure set and stay away.
      The shop where my dad got his tires at had a cage that one came apart in on display for his workers, it still blew some metal off the wall, he had it patched with a different color, just as a reminder. It was like that for at least 10 years. There was an old double lock split ring here in the States, they outlawed them in the 1980s (I think), they we're extra prone and deadly. *** edit tyres and colour :)

      Had one blow off an old Chevy pickup (16.5 inch split rims) years ago. I was going down a hill about 30 mph, right front wheel, instant flat. The lock ring flew into a wooded area, and I was never able to find it. The horror stories are real. A friend's mother was killed by one flying off a highway rig going by a rest area in New Mexico, where they'd stopped to stretch their legs. Most of the accidents with them happened in shops, and eventually OSHA mandated the use of safety cages around the wheels when the tires were initially inflated after servicing.

      I see a cage that one came apart in, unbelievable the force. The cage done it's job, no one seriously hurt, but it egg shape all the straight tubing and still blew sheet metal off the walls of the building. I am pretty sure some underwear got threw away. The shop owner kept the bent cage as a reminder to his guy's, big shop like 30 employees.

    I had done a few of those split ring mounts when I was a kid. We did them off the truck on the floor. If the ring blows off of the rim while installing you usually have a nice circle in the ceiling . Dangerous procedure I’m sure many have lost limbs or even worse died while doing this. I’m sure they don’t have the greatest tools to work with. Interesting video, thanks for sharing.

      They aren't called guillotines for nothing. I've done dozens of split rims when I drove overseas. Like you said, he isn't necessarily saving any time or making his job easier by keeping the wheel on. Also, that ring gap is too wide.

    • @michaelmansun6203
      @michaelmansun6203 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vintagethrifter2114 I can't see how the tire even stays on. Just air pressure and that flimsy ring?

    • @vintagethrifter2114
      @vintagethrifter2114 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmansun6203 There's an inside groove that the ring sets into that locks it into place on the rim. This is why it is important that the gap in the ring is as small as possible. A large gap is an indication that the ring isn't seated in the lock grove properly and is going to shoot off. When it does, it well be with enough force to kill someone. If you look closely when he starts to take the ring off, the wrong way, you'll see a small rectangular cutout on the ring. It is right next to the gap and along the wheel hub. It is for a pry bar to help pop the ring out of the groove.

    • @michaelmansun6203
      @michaelmansun6203 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vintagethrifter2114 Thanks. It still seems like the tire could just push its way off, even if the ring is seated properly. I suppose they don't drive all that fast in Pakistan. The design obviously works. I guess, as well, that there is no way the tire could go on just a little crooked so as to cause a bad shimmy.

    Amazed that split ring wheels are still in use over there they have been banned for quite a while over here not inherently dangerous but when warn or corroded they are quite dangerous and strict inspections and a zero tolerance policy on reuse of questionable parts must be followed I would never service one without Magnafluxing in the wheel and the ring and that assembly would fail a visual inspection as the wheel had a worn groove

      But then again inner tubes used to cause nasty high-speed blowouts resulting in plenty of highway fatalities.

    That ring gap is too wide. He needs to redo it. He also removes it and installs the ring the wrong way. There's a cutout right next to the ring gap. It is for sticking a pry bar in it and twisting. This will help let the ring's own tension remove it from the wheel. The wheel should have been flat on the ground and pry bars and wooden blocks used to pry down on the ring to seat the ring. You should never bang on it with a hammer. You do not want to deform the ring in any way. It's important that it stays as round as possible.

      Up until 3 decades ago, this is how all vehicles had wheels engineered.
