    I had a pair of these.... Then I sold one and have regretted it ever since. I will own a pair of the 25s when I save enough pennies.
    I absolutely love REL.
    John personally switched me away from my Velodyne DD15+ when he visited my store many years ago in Sheffield England. Look He set up a demo which destroyed my preconceived ideas of what a sub could do by having a 528se outpace the DD in all areas other than the most extreme output. Teaching me there is no substitute for proper set where integration is concerned. (I remember he said the group delay on my DD was the equivalent of standing 130 ft away from the sub. !! )

    Brought my pair last year mainly for AV use but was blown away at the improvements it brought to my music system.

    Have known John since 1985. He's the real deal, and, he knows how to communicate complex ideas and designs into chewable chunks for the masses. He's been doing this since the days of DB Audio in Berkeley. Listen to John. Enjoy John. Believe John. He's making these videos, and he is the owner of REL. If what he says isn't found to be fact . . . well, you know . . .
    REL Acoustics - yup. No BS, just the facts. That's John - Passionate, Honorable, Knowledgeable.
    Take it to the bank, folks.

    This is a beautiful sub! Why did you decide to make it one large cabinet instead putting something between the drivers?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By keeping the 212/SE's cabinet as one large space, rather than dividing it into two sections, the subwoofer is able to deliver deeper and more powerful bass extension. Dividing the cabinet into two sections lessens the overall internal volume of the cabinet, which would in turn lessen how much power it can deliver in the lowest reaches of it's output.

    Great explanation, how would these go over a REL S/812 6 pack?... I just dialled in my S/812 pair and loving them and wondered if I should have just got these instead, or would over time adding another 4 x S/812 be a better solution?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out, and for supporting REL. The 212/SE (and the current 212/SX) are a good option that delivers performance close to that of a full line array, though a full six-subwoofer line array will offer higher levels of performance compared to a pair of 212/SEs. If you are enjoying the performance of your pair of S/812, and plan on eventually adding the additional units to form a complete six-subwoofer line array, then improved performance will be achieved by continuing down this path.

    Thank you so much for your informative videos!! What an amazing subwoofer! I am trying to decide what is better for my system, a pair of 212/SE or 3+3 stacked S510s or S812s. Can you please help me on that? My speakers are quite expensive and I am trying to keep up with them. On the other hand, I can't afford a pair of 25s for the moment so I am looking for the maximum fidelity in this price range. I am only listening music to my system, not intended for movies. Thank you!

      S/510 are faster (physics) then larger subs. with 3+3 stacked you also get the power.... fun decision.

    Hi John, using the 212SE wih B&W800s3 since 2016, now experimenting with the tv output of lg cx and 212se. Do you suggest going up to the sx or no need?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 212/SX does offer an improvement in performance over the 212/SE, though your current subwoofer will still perform very well for home theater listening in addition to 2-channel listening. For connection instructions, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to assist.

    With the Long bow systen, do you neee 1 per unit or can you hook multiple units to 1 Long bow?
    Eg. 1 Long bow powering 2 x 2/12se?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each Longbow transmitter can pair with up to four subwoofers, however when doing this each subwoofer will be receiving the same signal. For stereo pairs of subwoofers, where each sub is receiving independent left or right channel signal, it is best to use separate Longbow transmitters for each subwoofer.

    I currently have a 212se and wish to add another but now it’s the 212sx will they work well together as a stereo pair?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for reaching out. The 212/SX is the closest equivalent to your 212/SE from among our current lineup, though there were improvements and upgrades made during the development of the 212/SX which will result in it not being a perfect sonic match with the older SE model. Ideally, when forming a stereo pair it will be best to find a good condition used 212/SE so that you have two of the same matching model, though if this is not possible then the 212/SX will be the next best option.

  • @zackw4941

    Would it make sense to stack these, like the single driver models?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately the 212/SE, as well as the current 212/SX model, are not designed to be stacked in a line array configuration. In our experience, when using multiple of this model it is best to have them placed separately in the room, ideally near to the corresponding main speaker channel.

      @@RELAcoustics Thanks! I'll keep this mind if I ever win the lottery. (Or Doge goes to the moon.)
      But in all seriousness, I do have a pair of HT1205's on order and I'm looking forward to seeing what REL is all about. I use my speakers mostly for HT, but my sensibilities seem to be more music / audiophile still.
      I am currently trying out a set of SB3000's and they seem to be evening I was led to expect. But now that I have them, the power is completely overkill and I would gladly trade a little bit for even better musicality and seamless integration.

    So why go for a pair of these over say a line array of 6 (3 each side) S812 or Carbon specials? Are there benefits over the line array, or the line array concept better?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for contacting us, and for your interest in REL Acoustics subwoofers. A full six-subwoofer line array of either S/812s or Carbon Specials will be higher performing compared to a stereo pair of 212/SX. However, a stereo pair of 212/SX is an excellent option for customers who are not able to accommodate a full six-subwoofer line array in their room or system.

    What is the difference between the Nextgen3 and Nextgen5 amplifier that you are using in 212/sx vs the number 25

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NexGen 5 Class D amplifier found in the 212/SX is simply a more recent revision of the NextGen 3 Class D amplifier found in the No.25. Both amplifiers are functionally very similar, though other aspects of each subwoofer's design will result in the 212/SX and the No.25 both having very different performance characteristics.

    • @CanadaSocial
      @CanadaSocial 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RELAcoustics Will the Number 25 be manufactured with the NexGen 5 Class D amps soon? Generally when there is a version upgrade it means that something was improved. Hence the question.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CanadaSocial At this time we do not have any plans to use the NextGen5 amplifier from the 212/SX in the No.25. The 212/SX does feature a more recent version of this amplifier, though in our experience this difference will not have a significant impact on the performance of the subwoofer. The driver design, cabinet design, and filter design which are unique to the No.25 will have far more noticeable of an impact on the subwoofer's sound and performance.

    Have ordered multiple of these and the finish had defects. Fire whoever puts the finishes on your subs! Got tired of exchanging them. They sound great, but it shows end to end quality is not present. On a sub with this price tag, it's not something you would expect to see, multiple times...
