Thinking about the Anish Kapoor’s Svayambh thing really hurt. As they get closer to the light, their shadow gets bigger and they lose apart of themselves. If they don’t accept it, then they will continue to lose their true identity and they’ll be overtaken by their shadow. Accepting something that consumes your life isn’t easy. Props to the boys for taking a serious topic that really affects them and many other people and bringing it into the light, so others can understand the true nature of what it takes to be an idol, an artist, and a influencer.
Ok so someone explain which is them/stage persona and which is their unconscious self. Is the shadow their stage persona? Or is it the light part their stage persona. Bcz isn't it like that their stage persona is taking over and they are losing a part of their unconscious self as they go on. And they need to balance their conscious and unconscious to go on without harm? And according to lyrics the shadow is swallowing him up so the shadow is taking over so that means the shadow is their conscious/stage self and as it grows bigger they lose apart of their unconscious selves. So basically their stage self is shadow bcz if its unconscious self then how is it taking over? Oh wait so they mean that as they get high they realize their unconscious selves and how they are losing them. Ugh! if the shadow is swallowing them they should lose their light parts but it doesn't add up. As a long-time ARMY, I said the same thing to myself. "How do they know?!!" "How are ARMY so good at this whole theory thing?" "How did I not see this myself?!" Wow...
It must be intimidating to open up like this and I really admire them for doing so. If you think about it ... Joon said persona was dedicated to us. The tones of the songs were overally bright and the lyrics were often talking about their gratituide and eternal love for the fandom. Now Shadow does not deny that. It just shows that all the love they get comes with a price of loosing privacy and basically loosing a chance to live a normal life. You get up there, but it's lonely up there. And the love they get feels warm but when you think about it it's not that complex. Fans are usually introduced to their persona without any deeper understanding of their dark side ( maybe that's where the fake love connection comes from, if there is any). And that must lead to all of those doubts whether all of it is actually worth it. In BWL the lyrics goes : "you gave me wings to fly" and here it is "I want it all mine" without actually acknowledging the importance of the fans, which we know they care about very much. That can be interpreted as the voice of shadow, exposing the thoughts you're not only trying to hide from everyone else but especially from yourself. That's why I'm saying this must be intimidating to share. It's like they're saying : we're not only those perfect guys that write lyrics about how you should love yourself, we're also people who have lost so much are are questioning whether it was worth it. So is it heatbreaking ? Yes. But also it's normal, we all have this dark side within us as Yoongi says in the end. And there's no way we can ever escape it.
The lyrics truly speaks about their insecurity....it makes me sad.....I just hope they can embrace all of their positive and negative sides... Cause every human being are struggling....And they are struggling more because they're celebrities.....

The other detail I saw its that jung's map its created in a mirror form, where the ego mirrors the shadow, and in the middle its the self, that's why yoongi in Yellow its the self, everytime he appears or talks attempting to face the shadow, the mirrors break between the two, I thought that was genius, that's why he is LITERALLY IN MIDDLE OF MIRRORS

@@khhspedup Yeah, I was thinking that before, too. I always see in Fake Love, Jungkook would be in the dark at most times. Jungkook was running away in the hallway during Fake Love. If he had fallen, he would have been in the shadow/dark which the shadow overcomes his persona (does this explain why he was shown in the dark in the mv?) He was running to a door (which was light) So he wanted to be in the light and forget the shadows. He feels scared because he couldn't accept his own shadow.

honestly i got hooked by bts this quarantine time. i saw all their hardships in the past. and this song really gives me a goosebumps coz it really means deep. i guess this is what they are all feeling amidst the fame. even suga admitted he cried in the bathroom after they got the billboard award. he said it becomes heavy now or something like that.suga is really a deep person but he is indeed sweet.

ARMYs need to remember they are only people who also want to enjoy their freedom and personal lives but are under constant scrutiny by the media and fans. One wrong word, one wrong action and it could be the downfall of their group as what has happened to many other Kpop groups. They can't even go anywhere freely without being mobbed. Im so glad someone else noticed this! It could be one shadow for each member; each member is hiding from their personal shadow behind one of those doors. But since it's Yoongi speaking to us in the beginning (before his shadow gets its say at the end), that's the reason why he is also in the hallway at the moment

What I understood was that there is a Min Yoongi that is totally different from what we know as the famous Suga, that cute IDOL who always has a smile on her face, never admitting what is going on inside her. The moment the song gets tense, right in the end, with a pretty scary voice and a very "desperate" sound, as it were, it means that the "other body" (Suga) always dominates and collides with the real Min Yoongi we really don't know. There has never been a parallel between these two bodies. The idolized body will always receive fame, while the royal body will never receive freedom, having to restrain and admit to the unfortunate reality. In this way, the two bodies end up becoming one. Min Yoongi, before fame, wanted many things, many desires and had many wills, but when he reached the top, a place he defines as "lonely" eventually regained his sense of being his "true self" but already It was too late. What we can be aware of is that, in the midst of his many desires, he says the phrase: I want to be me, which would be that of the real body, being a less superficial phrase, something deep, but little spoken, as if shut up by the body of fame. The sad thing is that it encompasses all Idols, as if it were a price to pay for fame, as if the whole were not enough to achieve their happiness, thereby losing their freedom. What is worth more to you: fame or freedom? If you chose the second option, you know very well one of the reasons for one of the members to give up being Idols. Not that members don't like their fandoms, but freedom is a gift.

I believe that the hall is yoongi's mind portrayed as Jung's Model of the Mind, it's even mirrored how the shadow(yoongi in black) and ego (yoongi in white) works,, when yoongi is in white its the unsconcius but then at the beginning of the song it mirrors to the other way as the conscious with the ego and yoongi in white, when it's the unconscious we see people in black at the doors, that is the collective unconscious which Influences what we are, there it's where the mind keep the archetypes which are images organized by the same emotional tone, it's concepts we all know but don't know how, there is the unconscious part of it, such as "heroe, mom" yoongi has his own archetypes "rapstar, the top, rockstar, the king, rich, owner, winner" and a door for each, that why we see the ego locking them up everytime he says them, the archetypes shape what our ego wants.
surprised and pleased by your reference to Svayambh. maybe my favorite art installation of all time. also pleased that you didn't stray too far into looser theory (mostly stuck to the more concrete matter) and that you emphasized that the video is not about being sad for the boys. honestly, the back half of the song should get everyone pumped up; Yoongi is being led to his own salvation.
Not only did this make more sense and made me realize, it also gave me even more theories and more questions. I feel like this album isn’t gonna be like MOTS: Persona, since that was was like.. more upbeat and looked on the bright side. I think MOTS:7 is gonna be more dark and look at reality and face the truths like you explained Suga saying in Shadow. This reminds me somehow of the Love Yourself: Tear and its music. It’s like it answering all of Persona’s questions and opening even more then just answering the questions. A lot is going through my head and I just- OMGGG!

His 'Shadow' talking to him in that eerie coarse voice.... ughh... they were really detailed. But what impressed me most is how they managed to explain Jung's theory of 'SHADOW' through lyrics and visual in 3 minutes 😊 , this will help psychology students to understand Jung's analytical psychology faster (than the so many pages in the text book 😉😁).
We can let them have their privacy, treat them like human beings, and not overreact with so many things. It probably puts a lot of pressure on them because they have to keep this certain image.
Also by just being kind in general. There are a lot of hate and negativity on the internet, with netizens being ruthless and all. They are human too with thoughts and feelings. Let's treat them with respect, not something that should simply be objectified.
i don't think we can help them. it's a fight between themselves . a fight between their persona and their shadows. we all know that shadows are our unconcious mind that we are trying to hide with in ourselves. shadows will consume you if you wont accept that you have it. so in over all, yes,as a fan, we can minimize everything that they are uncomfortable with but it's them only that can accept who they really are whetherit's their shadow,their persona andd their ego. bts making music with lyrics like this shows that they are aware of their own lives and they can accept in their own and armys will be with them together as long as they want to.
Nada Army - Theres only so much we can do for them, but I’m sure learning from their lessons is what we can really do. And then be good representatives of fans. (Not being toxic, being mature online, and just supporting them like we always have.) What they show in their videos are things they’ve already dealt with. So, it’s less current than we think. So they’re probably doing better than the video implies. 🙂 At least, for the most part. More important is listening to their interviews and be aware of things that they struggle with now that we can actually help with. (Airport safety, etc.)

As Yoongi once said on his letter to BTS, “the brighter the light, the darker the shadow”. In a perfect world, only light would exist, but this is not a perfect world so to balance it, a shadow must also exist. This does not mean they are not happy, but they are opening up to us so we understand how they feel. After all, they still are searching for their Map of the Soul.

the first thoughts that came to me when I watched this was that he was struggling with two aspects of fame. he got what he wished for but as the saying goes "watch what you wish for, you might get it". he is losing himself because of fame. moonchild i’m sure one time they were talking about something and I think I remember someone said something like “when we talk to our counsellors...” or something like that. So I think if they don’t have in-house counselling service, then they had access to it outside.
At 0:15 there are two exit lights shown and the red wax goes to where those exit lights are, I think it could show that any where they try to escape they are still followed by that shadow (it could be their dark sides or their stage personas) that its a never ending race between the two . Also in the corridor there are seven doors (excluding the one yoongi is in front of ) i think it shows how all seven members of bts have that shadow that cant be cast away and the rooms are symbolically their stage personas that they have locked themselves inside but no matter how hard they try to hide from it their shadows are always waiting for them outside.
The fast run to the stage could just symbolize 'how fast' they got on top of the world, Yoongi talked about this. That they reaching things so fast that I wonders what comes next
The whole BTS theory revolves around Carl Jung's psychology concept of archetypes. As we grow older, we realize that our personality and behavior is actually influenced by a lot of factors especially our experiences in life. This makes BTS's music very relatable as their music grows with them. So in RM's persona it is all about questioning who he really is. In jungian theory, the persona is how we present ourselves to the world. When a person indulges too much on how he projects himself to the world, he loses his own sense of self and succumbs to conforming to the box that the world has put him in. Persona, in Latin, is translated as "mask". In Yoongi's Shadow interlude, we see the darker side of the human personality. Unlike other personality theorists, Jung rejected the notion that humans are born into the earth as blank slates; rather they inherit certain aspects of their personality from the collective unconscious which also comprises the SHADOW. Basically the shadow is composed of our basix sex & agression drives, and also unconscious motivations and repressed feelings, memories etc. The persona coexists with the shadow because the persona protects the ego while the shadow manifests the id. The whole point of yoongi interlude is that we must learn to embrace the delicate balance between our self and the shadow. Some days we may feel like the shadow is eating us whole but in reality the shadow reminds us that there is always a dark side to everything no matter how great we are. Its amazing how BTS incorporates their emotions and psych related concepts into their music. As a psych major, I am proud to stan BTS. They create relevant and eye opening content for the youth💜

From only listening to rap music never going outside of my box to Becoming a fan of BTS last year going back and watching them rise to fame.I can say they came a very long way. They helped me get through dark times with them always saying to love yourself. After watching the MV and not even being able to speak a different language as soon as he started talking about his goals to be king being rich and watching the visuals I new it was deep about how everything comes with a price. They work so hard and they are scared to slip up because all the eyes that are on them day to day. Not being able to just leave your house or your hotel room because the media always has something bad to say or spending time with the people they love. I hope they find there peace and know even if they feel alone there fans will support them. ♥️
Thanks, Celeste for another great analysis. A vast majority of us know that fame and fortune don't come without a price. Money doesn't guarantee happiness or health. I say this to say, yes I can see how Yoongi feels and probably all the boys are feeling this in some aspect of this amazing journey they are on to the top. They started young and gave up a lot to be where they are today. No one ever tells you that obtaining this amount of fame puts you under a closer microscope or that every little thing you do is judged. I can see why he can become scared of what might happen.

Awesome analysis, I thought Shadow was especially interesting since we got such a intimate peek inside Suga's inner world with his mixtape. He's talked about this 'rap demon' inside himswlf thats obsessed with the wrong things like in Tony Montana, and I get the same feeling from shadow. This is my favorite comeback teaser ever.
The press release mentioned that the figures represent his egos/desires, but I love that we can interpret the visuals and lyrics in different ways. That's what true art is. I'm so thankful also for his honesty in his lyrics. Love this song!

Thinking about the Anish Kapoor’s Svayambh thing really hurt. As they get closer to the light, their shadow gets bigger and they lose apart of themselves. If they don’t accept it, then they will continue to lose their true identity and they’ll be overtaken by their shadow. Accepting something that consumes your life isn’t easy. Props to the boys for taking a serious topic that really affects them and many other people and bringing it into the light, so others can understand the true nature of what it takes to be an idol, an artist, and a influencer.

Ok so someone explain which is them/stage persona and which is their unconscious self. Is the shadow their stage persona? Or is it the light part their stage persona. Bcz isn't it like that their stage persona is taking over and they are losing a part of their unconscious self as they go on. And they need to balance their conscious and unconscious to go on without harm? And according to lyrics the shadow is swallowing him up so the shadow is taking over so that means the shadow is their conscious/stage self and as it grows bigger they lose apart of their unconscious selves. It must be intimidating to open up like this and I really admire them for doing so. If you think about it ... Joon said persona was dedicated to us. The tones of the songs were overally bright and the lyrics were often talking about their gratituide and eternal love for the fandom. Now Shadow does not deny that. It just shows that all the love they get comes with a price of loosing privacy and basically loosing a chance to live a normal life. You get up there, but it's lonely up there. And the love they get feels warm but when you think about it it's not that complex. Fans are usually introduced to their persona without any deeper understanding of their dark side ( maybe that's where the fake love connection comes from, if there is any). And that must lead to all of those doubts whether all of it is actually worth it. In BWL the lyrics goes : "you gave me wings to fly" and here it is "I want it all mine" without actually acknowledging the importance of the fans, which we know they care about very much. That can be interpreted as the voice of shadow, exposing the thoughts you're not only trying to hide from everyone else but especially from yourself. That's why I'm saying this must be intimidating to share. It's like they're saying : we're not only those perfect guys that write lyrics about how you should love yourself, we're also people who have lost so much are are questioning whether it was worth it. So is it heatbreaking ? Yes. But also it's normal, we all have this dark side within us as Yoongi says in the end. And there's no way we can ever escape it.

I always see in Fake Love, Jungkook would be in the dark at most times. Jungkook was running away in the hallway during Fake Love. If he had fallen, he would have been in the shadow/dark which the shadow overcomes his persona (does this explain why he was shown in the dark in the mv?) He was running to a door (which was light) So he wanted to be in the light and forget the shadows. He feels scared because he couldn't accept his own shadow.

What I understood was that there is a Min Yoongi that is totally different from what we know as the famous Suga, that cute IDOL who always has a smile on her face, never admitting what is going on inside her.
The moment the song gets tense, right in the end, with a pretty scary voice and a very "desperate" sound, as it were, it means that the "other body" (Suga) always dominates and collides with the real Min Yoongi we really don't know.
There has never been a parallel between these two bodies. The idolized body will always receive fame, while the royal body will never receive freedom, having to restrain and admit to the unfortunate reality. In this way, the two bodies end up becoming one.

Not only did this make more sense and made me realize, it also gave me even more theories and more questions. I feel like this album isn’t gonna be like MOTS: Persona, since that was was like.. more upbeat and looked on the bright side. I think MOTS:7 is gonna be more dark and look at reality and face the truths like you explained Suga saying in Shadow. This reminds me somehow of the Love Yourself: Tear and its music. It’s like it answering all of Persona’s questions and opening even more then just answering the questions. A lot is going through my head and I just- OMGGG!

His 'Shadow' talking to him in that eerie coarse voice.... ughh... they were really detailed. But what impressed me most is how they managed to explain Jung's theory of 'SHADOW' through lyrics and visual in 3 minutes 😊 , this will help psychology students to understand Jung's analytical psychology faster (than the so many pages in the text book 😉😁).

i don't think we can help them. it's a fight between themselves . a fight between their persona and their shadows. we all know that shadows are our unconcious mind that we are trying to hide with in ourselves. shadows will consume you if you wont accept that you have it. so in over all, yes,as a fan, we can minimize everything that they are uncomfortable with but it's them only that can accept who they really are whetherit's their shadow,their persona andd their ego.

In a perfect world, only light would exist, but this is not a perfect world so to balance it, a shadow must also exist. This does not mean they are not happy, but they are opening up to us so we understand how they feel. After all, they still are searching for their Map of the Soul.

At 0:15 there are two exit lights shown and the red wax goes to where those exit lights are, I think it could show that any where they try to escape they are still followed by that shadow (it could be their dark sides or their stage personas) that its a never ending race between the two .
Also in the corridor there are seven doors (excluding the one yoongi is in front of ) i think it shows how all seven members of bts have that shadow that cant be cast away and the rooms are symbolically their stage personas that they have locked themselves inside but no matter how hard they try to hide from it their shadows are always waiting for them outside.
The fast run to the stage could just symbolize 'how fast' they got on top of the world, Yoongi talked about this. That they reaching things so fast that I wonders what comes next
The whole BTS theory revolves around Carl Jung's psychology concept of archetypes. As we grow older, we realize that our personality and behavior is actually influenced by a lot of factors especially our experiences in life. This makes BTS's music very relatable as their music grows with them.
So in RM's persona it is all about questioning who he really is. In jungian theory, the persona is how we present ourselves to the world. When a person indulges too much on how he projects himself to the world, he loses his own sense of self and succumbs to conforming to the box that the world has put him in. Persona, in Latin, is translated as "mask".
In Yoongi's Shadow interlude, we see the darker side of the human personality. Unlike other personality theorists, Jung rejected the notion that humans are born into the earth as blank slates; rather they inherit certain aspects of their personality from the collective unconscious which also comprises the SHADOW. Basically the shadow is composed of our basix sex & agression drives, and also unconscious motivations and repressed feelings, memories etc. The persona coexists with the shadow because the persona protects the ego while the shadow manifests the id.
The whole point of yoongi interlude is that we must learn to embrace the delicate balance between our self and the shadow. Some days we may feel like the shadow is eating us whole but in reality the shadow reminds us that there is always a dark side to everything no matter how great we are. Its amazing how BTS incorporates their emotions and psych related concepts into their music. As a psych major, I am proud to stan BTS. They create relevant and eye opening content for the youth💜
I'm happy to see other psych major! 💖💖 I haven't seen much people adding the collective unconscious and archetypes in "shadow" and I though it was a HUGE important addition they made🤭

From only listening to rap music never going outside of my box to Becoming a fan of BTS last year going back and watching them rise to fame.I can say they came a very long way. They helped me get through dark times with them always saying to love yourself. After watching the MV and not even being able to speak a different language as soon as he started talking about his goals to be king being rich and watching the visuals I new it was deep about how everything comes with a price. They work so hard and they are scared to slip up because all the eyes that are on them day to day. Not being able to just leave your house or your hotel room because the media always has something bad to say or spending time with the people they love. I hope they find there peace and know even if they feel alone there fans will support them. ♥️

Thanks, Celeste for another great analysis. A vast majority of us know that fame and fortune don't come without a price. Money doesn't guarantee happiness or health. I say this to say, yes I can see how Yoongi feels and probably all the boys are feeling this in some aspect of this amazing journey they are on to the top. They started young and gave up a lot to be where they are today. No one ever tells you that obtaining this amount of fame puts you under a closer microscope or that every little thing you do is judged. I can see why he can become scared of what might happen.

On Twitter I've seen a lot of explanations, that mix up the concept of the shadow as a part of the self and the shadow as the obsessive and unfair behavior of the public towards them... I think both would be meaningful, but the name of the album is MOTS: 7 so...

Awesome analysis, I thought Shadow was especially interesting since we got such a intimate peek inside Suga's inner world with his mixtape. He's talked about this 'rap demon' inside himswlf thats obsessed with the wrong things like in Tony Montana, and I get the same feeling from shadow. This is my favorite comeback teaser ever.
