I literally cried! They are just ahead of the time!! They have brilliant mind, unbelievable talent!! They truly are an artists that are born once in a centuries! Their reach and deep: world, imagination, extreme passion just is mind blowing! And I'm so glad that they are at their peak of career when I need them the most, when I'm on my journey of self-discovery.🙏🏻💜

I recognized a lot of this on my second watch through of the PV and cried a lot. I saw myself in the lyrics because I was a designer for 5 years... made it to senior level and had a breakdown. The art controlled how I valued myself as a person. A customers or company’s critique became my self worth and I had to leave the profession for a break... and it’s heartbreaking because I still have a passion for it, but I still don’t have the strength to go back into the profession... I pray BTS makes it through better than I did, because art is the hardest love relationship ever...

This is my take away/interpretation. My own personal opinion on the Black Swan.
My take away from this when I saw the art film for the first time:
A Black Swan. The choreography says it all.
The second time I re-watched it:
A person with a Shadow on the second floor of an abandoned building. After being on the second floor (persona) he fought off this shadow. Then realized he is alone (on top of the escalator) He internalizes then reunites with the shadow on the first floor by conquering it. (Going back to inner self)
The first time I heard the song:
Their voices are multilayered. As if they are United as one.
The second time I heard the song:
The rappers(suga,rm & JHope) are main singers representing the persona, shadow and ego. And the singers (Jin,v,jk & Jimin) are the voices inside of their head, echoing, harmonizing in the background as if pleading or telling them what to do.
The first time I read the lyrics:
It is the fear of being unable to touch music again when they've been making and performing it for the longest time. A dying flame.
The second time I read the lyrics:
It is about reigniting the flame. Doing what you can to control the size of your flame.
PS: Thank you for your work as always Bookish Theories! 💜

I dont find the meaning of the mini instrumental black swan performance performed by bts at the beginning of each black swan perf. In concerts.
Everywhere they just explain this vid or the song itself but what does that instrumental perf. Mean?? Especially jin being lifted up at the end being the head of the swan...

An excellent, in-depth analysis of the symbolism and concepts in lyrics, the choreography, and the joint narrative they combine to tell. Also a great understanding of both Martha Graham and Jungian ideas.

Also, a "black swan event" is something that is improbable, but has a profound effect. BTS is a black swan. Who would have thought that a kpop band would be the biggest musical act in the world.

  • @kerryholland4822
    @kerryholland4822 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Your point where you mention how the dancer who is cast as the Black Swan in the film lacks the technique the White Swan has but has the passion but the White Swan dancer has the technical skill reminds me of another Martha Graham quote ‘Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.’
Also Martha Graham’s technique itself connects to some of the concepts running through this era in particular. The style she developed is based on ‘the contraction and release’ that happens in the body when experiencing emotion, every emotion and feeling has a contraction and release, which reminds me of the ‘catharsis’ strand of their ideas you spoke about when discussing the London work ‘Catharsis’, there is a a sense of cleansing when you’ve completed a Graham class.
Edit: also adding on, with Graham everything is motivated by the 'inner life', no matter how raw and ugly, what is authentic, the most human inner journey must be expressed

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! I loved the film and am not too artsy. I thought MN Dance Company did an excellent job helping relay the message of the song and did so so beautifully. I think I like the film song version(over regular album version) with all the strings...its been stuck in my head! I wish more army would be more open-minded and try to at least see what BTS is trying to show us with this whole connect project. Seems like so many watched the film and immediately dismissed it etc. Same with the art exhibitions like "Rituals of Care". Not even trying to explore or trying to understand how it connects to BTS and their music and message.

I don't know if others will agree or not but watching this I was also reminded of the movie Black Swan, 2010 it's a psychological horror film the main role played by Natalie Portman and even Mila Kunis is there.. One should watch it's a brilliant movie and to be honest this particular comeback of BTS is brilliant on another level and cause I have watched the movie as well I can only imagine little things cause BTS the way they think are beyond our imagination. Well done boys. And a big round of applause to the dancers as well. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜"

I was so amazed by the video!
I go regularly to the Ballett and I already watched Swan Lake 2x
My next Ballet is a new Interpretation of Swan lake.
When I watched Black Swan I literally started crying. It’s so beautiful and BTS is now really on another level!

I saw something that said Black Swan was inspired by an anime called Perfect Blue, which is about an idol singer who wants to become an actress.
She starts to spiral into madness and feels like she's losing her indenity.
    Good stuff.

Black Swan was the last thing to happen in phase 1 of the comeback, leading to the 2nd phase, which includes Ego. Now I think the first phase was all about the shadow, and the second one will revolv around the ego-concep, leading to the comeback teaser on the 3rd of february. What i belive is that Black Swan was some kind of link between these two concepts, the dancers representing both shadow and ego. Because this was released at the end of phase 1, maybe it will be somewhere in the middle of the tracklist, linking a shadow-y part of the album to an ego-y one?
Idk if this makes sense, I somehow try to summarize and write down my thoughts in english....what do you all think?

    Wow this was fast xD.
I love el much the depth of this video and I’m glad that I came to the same conclusion at the end that it’s a constant fly between the self and the shadows, till in the end the self goes down to the depths of the consciousness and achieves to control the shadows and use them to fly high. I wonder if in the next songs they’re show us how this is achieved, same as they show us how to love ourselves in LY era with epiphany and love myself answer.
Also the part when it says that the artist dies once when they can no longer perform their art, I felt that. As an artist, I feel too as I am a tool for my art to bring a message and when I couldn’t do art, It was like suffocating, and I’ve thought a lot of times since I was younger that if one day I could no longer do art, it would be like death for me. Thus why I love this song so so much.
Thank you for making these videos. It helps me so much to understand in more depth the messages in their music.
Also idk if you’ll read this comment, but if you do, do you have any book recommendations related to the topic of Jung and the shadow?

I love this Black Swan concept. Swan Lake is an amazing ballet and a tragic story, it's one of my favorites from Tchaikovsky. I've noticed they've used classical music for most of their VCRs; I like that BTS enjoys all music, they are genuine artists/musicians.
On the first watch, I just thought of Jimin and wondered how he would do choreography for this the song and watched the video again then I watched BTS reaction to the video and Namjoon mentions that he pictures "Jimin and the six black swans." lol They probably also have different versions of Black Swan.
Also, on my first watch of the art film, I heard this really faint sound before the music started, there is wind but you can hear the start of the song too. I love how the music slowly, quietly eases in near the beginning after the eerie silence (@0:56 on the art film); like the music was just in the air then the violin starts suddenly. In a strange way, it's like the music was just in the main dancer's head. The song sounds amazing, I noticed that I couldn't really tell who was singing it sounded like Jungkook or Jimin at the beginning with the "Do your thang" parts, but I heard a lot of the rap-line too. The rap-line has prominent sound in the song. They all just harmonize so well. All of their voices just sound like one layer with 7 voices, it gives the song an eerie feeling. It's interesting, the sound of BTS Black Swan reminded me of some of txt's music/songs. Sometimes I can't tell who's singing in txt's songs. So exciting, I can't wait to hear the rest of the Map of the Soul 7 album.
