Hi Andrew, there's plenty of episodes on treating trauma, but I'm cery interested in learning what information is out there in preventing it in the first place, It's a devasting thing to have and If you can prevent it, you would be stopping a lot of heartache and suffering (prevention is better than a cure after all). The reason im so interested is because I'm a first responder and I'd like to give advice and help my colleagues and on how to do thid. Thanks. 🙏
If you are a first responder, you know very well that preventing illness and addiction will go a long way toward reducing future trauma. Making enough money to live in a safe location and community will also reduce trauma risk. Knowing how to avoid unhealthy relationships would be next. For first responders, moral injury is a huge issue. The organizations you work for are inherently faulty, but you are the "end of the line" for decisions that are made. Being able to control your schedule, making your off time highly rewarding and healthy, and making an exit plan so that you don't feel you are trapped in your job, will all make massive differences. But ultimately, witnessing violence and suffering is erosive to health without starting with very strong skills and being supported by both professionals and personal relationships.
@Cathy-e1s other way round actually, I think preventing (and healing) trauma is the best way of preventing illness and addiction. I definitely agree that our relationships and connections are a crucial factor in preventing trauma from turning into a full on disorder like PTSD. But there are also other surprising ways to prevent it, like playing a game like Tetris in the hours after experiencing trauma actually reduced the chances of it affecting you later on, so I'm hoping that there was other ways and protocols for prevention. So many people can benefit, thanks for your comment. 🙏
@@mattmurphy2497 I don't know any first responder with addiction or chronic illness that is not much more vulnerable to the trauma of witnessing violence and suffering. There are millions in India who would love to struggle with the stress of being a high earner. They aren't sure if they will eat today. The wealthy women I know are shocked to find they despise the meal ticket they married.
Lack of money can cause worry and fear causing depression. Also being alone with no one to talk to causes depression. Living in a small town with no where to go doesn't help. 😢
