Can you discuss the difference on LS between Crappie, Perch, and Shad? Can you see a difference on LS?
Is it true that crappie always swim up for the bait and perch would rather swim down?
I subscribed to your channel, mainly because you teach about LS, where most just show them catching fish.

Dan, thanks again for the kind words! For crappie, they will chase up and down but mostly they're looking/feeding up. Every once in a while you'll get an aggressive fish that will swim down and chase the jig.
For perch, is that sun perch/bream? Those you just get in the general vicinity and they're all over it usually. If they're on beds you'll have to get it near the bed but they'll attack anything close by. I've been snorkeling/spearfishing and come nose-to-nose with big bluegill in the water and had them peck at my dive mask to get me away from their beds. Fearless and aggressive little fish!
Shad you can spot because of the way they school together. Threadfin shad are like a cloud of tiny things. Gizzard shad are bigger and run in tight little packs - or sometimes big packs in rivers or bigger water. The Gizzard Shad I've seen act a bit like a school of laregemouth bass actually, they're just smaller and move slower.

      Hahaha, Thanks Danny!
I'll make a video showing why I REALLY wanted a bigger boat after June 15th (spearfishing season open date in Arkansas).

Thank you, good video. You will most likely use the pontoon more than the smaller boat. I see some guys fishing out of pontoons here in Ky. Wondering if you anchor down or have ever tried the anchor poles. I just purchased a couple used ones for my Tracker 175 crappie boat. Might be a good choice for you as well Sir. I have electric anchors as well, but from what I have saw from videos, can’t wait to try the poles out as the crappie and bluegill move up shallower. Haven’t been out in couple weeks with work and the very cold weather lately. Very cold this past weekend and some flurries. I have missed your videos and figured something was going on. Congratulations on a new boat and I hope you heal up well. God bless.

Good to hear from you James!! Yeah I'm ready to be done with the cold here also, we had a few nights drop below freezing but hopefully that'll be the last of the winter weather.
I do keep an anchor on the boats, but have not used them but a few times since I've put the trolling motor with spot-lock on there. But before the fancy trolling motors, I don't think my anchors ever fully dried out. Used them almost every time I'd go out - one on the front and one on the back to keep me in place.
Appreciate the well-wishes, I'm healing up good!

Congrats, can't wait to see more fish on the boat. I fish in a pontoon boat and the family really likes it, no other type of boat will fit our needs. VERY nice upgrade

I'll hit you up and we'll go fill up an ice chest this summer. I got a whole bunch of family wanting to go out fishing now that I've got a bigger boat that doesn't require a screwdriver to start it hahaha, but when it gets hot they won't wanna go anymore - that's when I'll get back to you and we'll go get em.
*If I forget, message me again once temps get in the 90s - that's when my boat will empty out from the fair-weather-fishermen hahaha

So far my favorite thing is cranking it up without having to use a screwdriver to prime it like I do on my old boat LOL!

At 10:50 you caught a small large mouth bass. If you look at those fish closely, it seems like the display shows a good profile of LMB. I am trying the distinguish different types of fish on the display.

Hey Dan, thanks so much for watching and the kind words! Those juvenile largemouth kind of act/look a bit like crappie - maybe a bit more elongated shape to them. The bigger largemouth bass are elongated also, but they kind of have a skinny-north-star bright spot that you will usually see show up on them when you're scanning them and they're sideways to the beam. I think their air bladders must be that shape.
Now knowing that has not helped me catch many this year so far, planning a trip out again soon and bringing some new tactics with me this time to try out on a very very heavily pressured lake.

Great video, but pontoons are hard to work with in the wind, but they sure are comfortable

      Thanks so much!
I am actually amazed at how still the Terrova keeps this big boat. Just got back from taking the kids out catching a bunch of bluegill in 10mph wind and that trolling motor made it feel like we were anchored down.
Now, getting it back on the trailer in that wind was NOT as easy. Probably about to get some of those big trailer guides that stick way out to help on days like this.

How are you able to stay on the brushpile .?

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

Hey thanks so much for watching! I use a trolling motor that has spot lock on it (minn kota terrova) and it will automatically keep me in one place as long as the wind stays relatively steady. Now if the wind is gusting or changing directions it will spin me around a bit before the trolling motor can catch up, but most days here in North Louisiana wind speed is less than 10mph.

haha, oh sure now you wanna come fish in the new boat. But nobody hit me up to come out in the 40-year-old bass tracker that stays half broken lol!
J/K - Sean, I'll hit up you and yarddog one day this summer and we'll go out there and catch a bunch. Always more fun with somebody else in the boat!
