I read lots of comments on this camera, buggy software etc. etc. etc., but what most forget is the issues the gopro hero 7 black had on its release. So in that sense they're equal and shouldn't put you off buying the Osmo action, software bugs and improvements can easily resolve this..I own the Osmo action and the osmo pocket and I'm very happy with both. For the record I do have the gopro hero 5 session (great camera) and the hero 5 black..The Osmo action has now dropped in price (gggrrrr), snap it up whilst you can
What about the voice...I always appreciate how the GoPro is always sensitive to the spoken voice..whether in noisy situations or wind...how does the Osmo do in comparison? I know when it first came out it was horrible...but how about now with firmware upgrades? Ok..you answered my question
Thanks for the video, i'm trying to decide between these 2 cameras. Do you know if there is a difference between linear mode in Gopro and dewarp mode in Osmo? Is one of them wider or are they similar?Have a nice day :)
@@TechMishka GoPro images are very saturated and contrasted making the image look dark, and it is gotten worse in the Hero 8. saturated and contrasted video images is harder to edit in post processing. Its better to have brighter video footages like the DJI Osmo Action does.
Another great video, I agree with everything said but still prefer the GoPro. I had a single GoPro Hero Black 7 and waited for the OSMO Action and got one but sent it back. Decided to go with another two GoPros in the end, the dewarp is not an issue for me as I can easily do that in post and I find the GoPro footage to be less pixelated, the Hypersmooth outperforms in every test (walking/riding/panning/on cars etc) apart from running (Hypersmooth seems to less care about tilt axis - guessing its for tilting on a bike or snowboard). Honesty I don´t think there is too much between the two devices and I´d be VERY happy with either, but if you are not too bothered about the reasons above and want better image quality I say GoPro. The fact I already had the rapid charger and I´m used to using the GoPro made things easier. The shut down time issue can be a pain, it only seems to happen on my cameras though if I power up the device and don´t record anything or change anything in the options (turn on turn off). If I use the camera it doesn´t seem to happen and shuts down in two seconds.
You are absolutely right, and thank you for taking the time to share all that. GoPro Hero 7 Black is a fabulous camera, and you will certainly like it a lot.
I bought GP7B and I returned it after one week of dozens of surprising battery depletion (with camera off) which renders this camera totally gamble in terms of its readiness for shooting. E.g. - you shoot for 5 minutes, you turn off camera with battery level 80%, after one hour you pick the camera which is still off, but warm and battery is 1% or camera don't even turn on. Someone may say you shall remove battery... How ? when in water ? when skiing ? And GP customer support is uselessly ignoring. Then I bought DJI OA and I haven't have any single issue and I'm supper happy with camera performance which is no compromise against GP7B.
Glad to hear you found a good solution! Clearly there was something not right with the GoPro. But it is a fact that the firmware on the Osmo Action is way more stable.
I just sold my Hero 7, bought it December 15th, and sold it December 27th. The most annoying about this camera is the overheat thing, and the dynamic range of its still image is poor. Saturation is agressive, I think. For taking pictures with auto mode, Xiaomi Yi Lite is much better. I would like to purchase Osmo Action as a substitution, but I read some bad reviews, especially about its Washed Out thing. Is it that bad?
I have found the dji on sale for 300 AUD which is the same price as the GoPro hero 7 silver. I will be using it for mountain biking and I’m wondering which one would hold up better on a trail. Also I’m not to concerned about the crop thingy on the dji
I own a Gopro 4. The image is good but it has an anoing problem, it frozzes very often specially in the water. Sometimes I have to come out of the water just to remove the battery. I was looking for rumors regarding the future Gopro 8 and I realise that a lot of people is complaining about Gopro 7 ... sometimes it gets frozzen too.. It seems this problem it's still unsolved. Hope this DJI camera don't has the same problem so that I can forget a new Gopro model.
I had a freeze with the Hero 7 only once or twice - generally quite stable. But menus are rather slow... hopefully the Hero 8 will be an improvement in that area.
I watched another video where the guy was complaining about the screen lag on the front and the back of the DJI and the other thing that kind of deters me from it is you cannot hook up an external microphone but other than those two things it does look like a decent camera maybe they can fix those issues with a firmware update or something or maybe they have an external microphone adapter in the pipeline something like GoPro has?
After looking at all these reviews I purchased the greatest action camera ever created, The GO PRO HERO 5 SESSION and I only paid $179 with an accessory pack.
@@TechMishka Ok, it's the original action camera, GoPro quality video and the body of the camera, better audio, easier to get 3rd party batteries (dosn't have half the camera attached to a battery.), wider range of accessories. Jermaine, noone talks much about the zoom, because it is rather useless. Action cameras have very small optics which isn't designed to offer vario; THe so called "zoom" is usually a software zoom - and causes things to look pixelized if it is zoomed too much. One possibility is to be in Full HD and then zoom in twice - this may be lossless, due to the available 4K on the sensor; But anything greater than it is worthless.
Is there any heat issue with OSMO Action on continuous recording .? Like in hero 7 black...? My hero 7 will heat up in just 28 mins of continuous recording and shuts off by itself. Does that happen when it is hot and the camera is under direct sunlight? I've never had such a problem - and have been shooting for more than 28 minutes, however not at 4K@60 - I usually use the 30FPS mode. The Osmo action gets warmer, but I never got overhearing issue either; Based on what we've seen from Ambarella (manufacturer of the CPU in the Osmo Action) - their chipsets tend to produce more heat than others, so perhaps in similar conditions - the Osmo Action will be warmer. Of course - I am saying this without any practical evidence.
I have not this issue at all recording in 4k60FPS, the GoPro does get hot but never had a shut down. I live in Spain so its pretty damn hot here sometimes.
