@Abbyshamps If you're talking about the sprites, then... you're acting like this hasn't happened since Touhou 9. If you're referring to how the final sets of days are with bosses doing the same thing but with different combinations, I can understand the gripe towards that, but you still dodge them all differently, so they sync well. Plus it fits the theme and story. Still, that's a gripe I can understand. Otherwise, I have to disagree about the Touhou games being much worse nowadays. None of the them are perfect and they all have one or two noticeable aspect/s that's arguably flawed, but they're all still very fun. If they were much worse nowadays then before, then many would not have greatly enjoyed Touhou 14 to 16 and the fanbases worldwide would have diminished because of that (which it didn't. It's actually growing. Even China and Korea are fans of the series now, and it's getting more exposure in the West with more of the games being localized in English on the PC and on the consoles, including fangames).
Well, if am not mistaken ZUN used the noh theatre figure of the hashihime, a jealousy- fueled youkai. Hashihime starts as a normal human who is being cheated by her husband. Despite that she continues the relationship, hoping he will stay with her. The husband leaves her for another woman. The hashihime, crazed by jealousy and pain, follows a ritual to become a Youkai and punish her former lover. Part of the ritual is staying 21 days under the bridge of the river Uji.
Parsee's appearance as a mid-boss around the 0:43 is such a seamless transition and even more powerful introduction for her than her actual boss fight.
I... I just can't help myself. I am so jealous of Parsee. She has an awesome outfit, she has magical danmaku powers, she has a bridge, she's a princess, and she even has these amazing songs. I'm so jelly.
Continuing.. The last part of the ritual is murdering her former husband and his lover, and any children born from the union. After that, she becomes a youkai who is trapped forever in the bridge that she completed the ritual on, consumed by jealousy and sadness for the rest of her life. She despises love, and kills any couple that tries to cross her bridge unless they break up in front of her.
The essence of jealousy is that you'll always be jealous of whatever you don't have. If Parsee was a living human, she'd be jealous of the silence and peace that the bridge'd provide, for example. In other words, jealousy is never satisfied, no matter what one tries to achieve.
This song is bleeding with different feels all at the same time: Sorrow, franticness, calm, broken spiritedness, frustration, confusion, and jealousy yet it feels satisfied that all of these clash at once. Truly a masterpiece.
This theme... so many layers of emotion are all employed to maximum effect, to a point where I can't even recognize them all. I can't help but picture Parsee's jealousy turning to anger, causing her to lash out and break something that was actually dear to her, turning that anger to sadness. Sadness turns to depression, and she becomes jealous of happy people, causing a vicious cycle. So sad.
Who says that she likes what she has... To her... she is condemned to guard the bridge that leads to hell for all of eternity presumably... To never be able to leave your post, not knowing exactly what your guarding... or where the people you keep out are coming from... Her powers is what separates her others spiritually, her attire separates her from you visually, and her shattered and fragmented personality splinters you from her emotionally... The real Hell, is where she is...
Perfect setup for SA and the whole subterranean feel overall. It's gives you a sense of probing around an underground cave, and then at 0:44 it speeds up along with the introduction of all the enemies.
I'm jealous of the glow under the bridge. I'm jealous of the constant cool weather underground. I'm jealous that she lives on something more interesting than every building in my country. You were saying?
I love at :42 when you first meet Parsee and shit gets really intense and the music is building up at that part too and I loved it. it got me pumped when i first heard it.
This music make feel like the end of the world come slowly, even if we try to think there is a solution, when it push the idea of a hopeless destiny. It is, in fact, very melancholy and even scary
***** To be honest I'm suprised it's not porn (yes I did see the cameltoe but still), most Ahegao face-people have it from some kind of Hentai. From my experience that is.
Only knew this song from a vocal arrange by Meimiya/銘宮 (called Parity, great song). This is my first time listening to the original.... and man it's beautiful.
actually for me it sounds like I'm in the pre historical age, like you're in a cave and there are cave men hitting on bones to make the sounds at the start of this song
Why do you think she does not exist? She most definitely exists. She might not be real, but that's not sure too. She is real inside a game. You don't have the actual proof od your reality beeing "real". We might be a realy elaborate simulation, or even a scripted game. You and she have the same proofs of your existance, so why do you think you're more real than Parsee?
@Endymion766 There ARE CDs, but, they're not OST CDs. They're original music cds. AKA, music that wasn't meant for in game. There IS however, some CDs from the fighting games...
It is extraordinary to think that all this wonderful music came from a man who self-taught himself how to create it all.
***** In fact, the music is the only reason of the existence of this game.
bouteille d'eau 1
Not just the music, but it is a large part of it.
***** May the tales of ZUN being a god be true? He's AT LEAST a deity.

This theme is underrated. I think it's great.
yes it is! It is one of my favourite stage themes of the entire franchise :)
caves are great!
127% agree

i wonder if she went to punish him and then came back acting as the guardian~
''the bridge people no longer cross''
Me: Parsee, maybe people would start crossing it again if you didn't instakill them.
She's just jealous

This made me think of Osamu Tezuka's "Apollo's Song" manga.
what a weird theatre, must have been fun seeing an actress murderising other actors at the end~

You can satisfy jealousy by acquiring everything in existence and then dying
the ability to make such excellent music...i'm jealous...

of the rich and the humble
and the cherry blossoms that she will never see.
now that its been revealed that parsee is a therapist, hopefully we can get some doujin that have more than just "PARUUUUUUU" as her personality.
It's surreal that when I first got introduced to 2hu, this video was 10 years old. And it felt like a relic of the past. Now it's 15 years old...
time flies.
This theme is just perfect. It gives the feeling of underground, an almost claustrophobic effect, and of tendrils of jealousy closing around you.
Bullets wiggling back and forth.

its like something is stalking you
parsee is jealous to you maybe
"it's like something is stalking you"
-Tharja is here- One of Parsee's spellcard huehue
Kazo ku hue10x
This is ZUN's best composition.
+Dusty Chan tenes razon es el mejor
I love the beginning part of this song! It sounds to mysterious and creepy...
Probably my favorite Stage 2 theme. The emotion it conveys is really good, and the intensity at 0:42 really is awesome.
This is freaking lovely like my garden!
0:42 midboss
it synced well with the bullet that i always remember that part
The best stage 2 music in the series
Because the definition of jealousy is to protect one's own possessions when other's don't have the same.
So in a sense you answered your own question.
When i hear this theme, i feel so much power.
And yet, sorrow is there as well.
Forever my favorite theme
Is this still your favorite theme?
This music make feel like the end of the world come slowly, even if we try to think there is a solution, when it push the idea of a hopeless destiny. It is, in fact, very melancholy and even scary
This is the song that got me into Touhou! It is just so great
Beautiful theme
I love Parsees jealous eyes
I could listen to this all day long.
I can hear it. I can feel it. Iam not welcome here.
Amazing theme. Touhou 11 was one of the best!
The lore of Parsee is so sad. I just wanna hug her
The beginning kinda creeps me out. This WHOLE song, however, makes me think something CREEPY is gonna happen.
I'm jealous of ZUN's awesome music composition skills!
What good are kindness and riches if I already have nobody to share them with?
0:46 And that's where our nightmares begins!
This song feels so different from all his other songs. I think this is one of his best.
This song gives *glimpses of strength in hopeless times*
At least Yuyuko canonically has Youmu and Yukari to help her, Parsee has no one.
0:42 is so awesome
My most favorite Touhou music!

i've listened to this song so many times (not because I wanted to but whatever)!
Here's something to think about; give Parsee a item and she might not give it back.
Only knew this song from a vocal arrange by Meimiya/銘宮 (called Parity, great song). This is my first time listening to the original.... and man it's beautiful.

كيف زون قدر يسوي كل هذه الانواع من الموسيقة بنفسه شيء مستحيل افهمه
Because you don't have what she has. Jealousy is a mysterious thing~
Gonna go cross parsee's bridge for the hell of it now
The title of this song is very meaningful
Never played Touhou in my life but I recognize and love this song. I think it is a bunch of Super Mario 64 ROM hacks
because she probably has the most tragic back-story of any touhou character
That's a really nice green bar... I'm jealous
I bet that hammer is to curse people out of jealousy by nailing dolls to trees.

It's really mystic
mystic? mystic square?
it took me so long to beat Parsee.. but i didnt care cause i got to listen to this theme for ages
Not to mention the awesome theme song. I want a theme song.
Some part of this reminds me of Laputa: Castle In The Sky...
Got some poetic emotions there eh?
I certainly wouldn't cross a bridge if it was playing this song.
@Endymion766

The Bridge People No Longer Cross?
Parsee: FOREVER ALONE
@gsrules34 yes, she is.
@Rider339
I mean, it's not Darth Vader quality, but it's still pretty damn good
For some odd reason, the first few seconds of this song remind me of the underground section of Resident Evil 1 back on the first Playstation...
Now that you say it, yeah...
at the beggining of this song, I go: PaPaPaPaParu over and over and over again
utter bucket confusion
@LuckySmash9 that would be awsome.
id love some powers too...
0:42 Parsee Appear's :x!
I LOVE this track but it bothers me that one of the incidental percussion sounds sounds almost like the death sound effect
@ezecoo one of the most epic No's ever, needs more positive rating
