Great work. I'm just about to start building a guitar on my own, but I haven't started because I wonder if I should build me a CNC first... Your video makes me want to do that!
Hi, great work!!! I am very curious about the following things (Maybe you can add them to the description): - How much time did you need to runt the complete mill program to cut the body out (in hours) - Could you enumerate which drill bits you used and for which operations? Thanks!
mostly i use a 12mm endmill to cut away most of it.. then i will contour some pockets with a 8mm because i need 4mm or 5mm radius in de corners. i dont know exactly anymore.. i just look at what i wanna do and program it on the fly
Close your eyes.. snap your fingers .. open your eyes .. and part is done :-) doesnt work like that... sorry. it goes by multiple bitt changes and differend g-codes. I always do it on the go.. dont save any gcode..
Nice routing dude, nice wood grain. I saw almost all interesting moments, I saw how you fixed wood blank when you carved front side, but ho you tilted and fixed body when you carved backside (tremolo cavity and belly cut)!? Can you show it or explain? Thanks
Hi. Sorry to bother you but I m trying to build my on cnc machine the same as yours but I have some wonders, how big may table can be and what cnc breakout board controller would I have to use if my table is 1500mm × 600mm ? Thank you for your time and patience. Best regards. Juan
Hello, With spindels longer than 1000 mm there is a possibillity that they can wobble at higher rpm. so 1500 is quit long. My first cnc has 1300 mm limit in the y-axis .. but i run it at 4600 mm/min maximum so they will not wobble. My second cnc has a range of 1100 mm. Also depence on the pitch of the spindels..and the speed of the motors. I use 25 mm "ISEL" ballscrews on my machines. first cnc pitch 5mm with nema 23 motors...and second cnc has 25 mm ballscrew with 10 mm pitch and 34 nema motors...The breakoutboards are many choice....how many motors you wanna use and how much money you wanna spend. "I would prefer usbcnc" Look at damencnc.com in the section "software". I will use cpu V4 when the machine is done..but there are more choices and possibilities. Greetings, Ralf
Hello, i made a 3d model first to know all the depths and shapes.. you can do all the pockets 2d and give a depth in the cam software. the rounded areas i did in a 3d cam software
That would be great, here we only have pine, oak, so guitar wood has to be shipped in & tagged with those additional costs. I will try Dallas, Thanks CIA.
Nice job, Ralph! I like your method of turning the body over. Can you tell me what cutter style/size and feed rates you are using for the outline? It looks like a very clean cut.
Hello Alan, Thanx, I use a 12 mm diamond endmill... here is the one i use shop.jvl-europe.com/epages/61425996.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61425996/Products/900/SubProducts/9001626 2200 mm/min whit a 1400 mm/min finish.. but play whit the feedspeed and finish speed sometimes.. and i use climb milling most of the time. greetz, Ralf
Ralf Klaassen Hey Ralf, many thanks for the link. I have never used this type of cutter before. Do they give you a better surface finish on the end grain and where the grain is reversed ?(like in the horns?)
ALAN ST CLAIR yes..i started using these cutters because he lives +- 15 km from my workshop...the cutter has a verryyyyy long stand time.. they stay sharp for long time.. because of the space in between the cutters the material can leave the cutter fast. Especially in the grooves it is a plus
green323turbo Yes I run mach3 on my first cnc..my second machine (when done) will be usbcnc controlled. The ballscrews i bought at damencnc.com (Isel ballscrews 25 mm.) quality products!! I use them for 3 years now with many dust..never a problem with it.
Hi Ralf...nice video and work. One question, when flipping over the body...is it holding just by the snug fit of the template? No need to keep it seated with vaccuum or tape? Thanks Alex
Hello Alex, Yes its only hold by the snug fit... i start with the precise measurements and then make it 0,1 mm bigger per time to feel if it fits good.
Nice paint dude, that strat is beautyfull. Can i ask where did you get the plans? I mean the cnc plans. I'm from Chile and i would like to make a strat body but i dont have the plans. I'd really apreciatte if you can share with me those plans. Once again nice job and cheers lml
Hi, Really nice job! Do you have some details on software to generate the tool paths/ Gcode please? I'm still trying to get my head around Aspire....any help would be a appreciated.... thanks...
Very good job. Is posible your publik The G-code for my. I have a aluminum cnc of 650 x 480 x 150 mm to job área útil. Muy buen trabajo. Podría dejarme su G-code para mi. Yo tengo una cnc de 650 x 480 x 150 mm útiles en el área de trabajo. Sorry mi inglish. Es orrible. Best regards.
I am a journeyman machinist, and I would so love to be doing something like this rather than making gearing, and all the boring soulless shit that I make all day.
Ralf Klaassen A fender stratocaster MIA body. i got a squire neck that i will use for it. How much will a body cost? With some of the best wood and such.
Andreas Kempe I will use swamp ash as wood choice... 2 pieces..its difficult to get it in one piece..but sometimes i am lucky to get a piece of wood big enough
What a piece of crap. The quality of the machining is awful and they've been overly enthusiastic with the roundover bit in the router around the back of the neck socket. I'll stick to making them by hand, thank you.
+Thomas yates Yeah ..) that was my first real try making a fender body..later i found out what i did wrong with the neckpockets back.. its not my core bissness
Great work. I'm just about to start building a guitar on my own, but I haven't started because I wonder if I should build me a CNC first... Your video makes me want to do that!
Nice job. Paint look spectacular.
Hey where did you buy the wood blank?
Hi Ralf,
I want to make my own guitar using a CNC machine, could you please share these files? Thanks!
+Andres Bianco I need the files too..
contact me i have them
please send toem to eliduvall1@gmail.com
Please send to contactmistaskies@gmail.com
Hi im Korean
i want to make this guitar but i dont have file could you send me? 3003ld@naver.com please.
That is a beautiful beastie. I'd have loved to see the finished guitar at the end of the video in all its candy purple glory.
Did you run into trouble with the neck plate, having routed the edge of the body heel?
Definitely have to buy one of those machines.
does it fit fender standar necks?, same pocket measure?
Hi, great work!!! I am very curious about the following things (Maybe you can add them to the description):
- How much time did you need to runt the complete mill program to cut the body out (in hours)
- Could you enumerate which drill bits you used and for which operations?
Thanks!
3,5 hours i believe. 12mm diamond endmill, 8mm endmill, 6mm ballnose, drill bit
mostly i use a 12mm endmill to cut away most of it.. then i will contour some pockets with a 8mm because i need 4mm or 5mm radius in de corners.
i dont know exactly anymore.. i just look at what i wanna do and program it on the fly
3:10 too much radius around the neckplate area. I can see cnc still has a way to go, cant do rounded smooth edges it seems
Hm, seems more like a mistake with the hand held router
Can you please give me the ready CNC software file of this which i can direct install to cnc machine for working on wood ?
Close your eyes.. snap your fingers .. open your eyes .. and part is done :-) doesnt work like that... sorry. it goes by multiple bitt changes and differend g-codes. I always do it on the go.. dont save any gcode..
12 piece body?? :) Such a pleasure to watch such videos of carving.
Is there any way of getting hold of the DXF file for this?? It's Beautiful!!
Hi i need the plan for a cnc machine were cant i find them plis help Thank you very much
Excellent job, mate!
Nice routing dude, nice wood grain. I saw almost all interesting moments, I saw how you fixed wood blank when you carved front side, but ho you tilted and fixed body when you carved backside (tremolo cavity and belly cut)!? Can you show it or explain? Thanks
Hello, I cut out the outerlines backside..then turned around the body and push it in.. so it has a tight fit. and i also have its zero point again.
at 2.22 minutes i cut the backside shape into a piece of mdf
Ralf Klaassen Ah so... :) Thank you. I wish it was filmed too, but I understood a point. Nice job.
WOW!!! WHats that paint job??
i like the music. But why did you roundover the back of the neck pocket????????
yes you are the first one who notice it...:-).. yes it was my first body and was a mistake.
Very nice! How many coats of paint and polyurethane?
Je had alleen de halsaansluiting niet met dezelfde frees moeten doen. Daar hoort de ronding een hele kleine radius te hebben. Verder mooi werk
ja dat weet ik.. kwam ik toen zelf ook achter :-/
So did you make it with 2 pieces and then glued them together ?
Danke Herman, Sie haben auch eine sehr schöne cnc. wirklich cool
Hi. Sorry to bother you but I m trying to build my on cnc machine the same as yours but I have some wonders, how big may table can be and what cnc breakout board controller would I have to use if my table is 1500mm × 600mm ? Thank you for your time and patience.

For carving an electric guitar with a CNC is necesary to make the plans in 3d or is it possibly making them 2D. How do you do? thanks in advance.
Hello, i made a 3d model first to know all the depths and shapes.. you can do all the pockets 2d and give a depth in the cam software. the rounded areas i did in a 3d cam software
Perfect, wish I had access to wood to make it $ worth it. Really good job & CNC. I've got plans for some Gibsons & more Fenders, but the wood price?
That would be great, here we only have pine, oak, so guitar wood has to be shipped in & tagged with those additional costs. I will try Dallas, Thanks CIA.
nice job Kalf
Thanx!!
what happen to the bridge pickup rout?
This in using high tech machine in an unimaginative way, why not carve form one piece the body and the neck too as one unit ?
Time..there is no time
awesome tech skills and beautiful work! Love the upbeat rockin music! Please, what is that tune?
Nice video! What is the title of the song?
Nice job, Ralph! I like your method of turning the body over.
Can you tell me what cutter style/size and feed rates you are using for the outline? It looks like a very clean cut.
Hello Alan,

G code shop?
how much did you spend to make that homeade cnc machine? Also, nice job, make me one!
this one i spend about 4500 euro and mannyyyyy hourss.. i use it for my business also.. the new one i am building is bit better and more expensive..
Ralf Klaassen
Are you running Mach3 ? Nice ball screws, where did you get them ? Does dust not get in the nuts ?
green323turbo
Yes I run mach3 on my first cnc..my second machine (when done) will be usbcnc controlled. The ballscrews i bought at damencnc.com (Isel ballscrews 25 mm.) quality products!! I use them for 3 years now with many dust..never a problem with it.
did it cut it wrong? how u gonna mass produce?
That's so cool, how long did it take altogether for the cnc machine to cut out the body?
Hi Ralf...nice video and work. One question, when flipping over the body...is it holding just by the snug fit of the template? No need to keep it seated with vaccuum or tape? Thanks Alex
Hello Alex,
Yes its only hold by the snug fit... i start with the precise measurements and then make it 0,1 mm bigger per time to feel if it fits good.
Ralf Klaassen THANKS!!! cool idea to gradualy make it bigger
could you please make the gcode available? pls!!!!
yes i will make it available
do you have it already?
Du arbeitest gut, filmst gut, von dir kommt noch mehr - mein Abo hast du!
Hello. What tools does the CNC machine use? It is for a research. Thank you so much for your video.
Hi mate.
I was wondering, If they are all made the same, do they all sound the same?
Marcel.
Marcel Timmers Hi Marcel, There is a big difference in sound by the wood beeing used.. ,Ralf
Where did you get the wood?
Hi Ralf, what's that colour called? it's amazing. nice work
Nice paint dude, that strat is beautyfull.
Can i ask where did you get the plans? I mean the cnc plans.
I'm from Chile and i would like to make a strat body but i dont have the plans. I'd really apreciatte if you can share with me those plans.
Once again nice job and cheers lml
Hola, conseguiste los planos? yo también ando buscando lo mismo! Muchas gracias!
+Diego Kaz no man xd el loco nunca respondió
que increible trabajo gracias por esas imagenes.
That's really great! What kind of wood is it?
Wood.
how much did you spend to make that homeade cnc machine? / I LOVE THE MUSIC
+Mike Kinnamon few years of and on ..
Hey ralph was that blank solid or was it two pieces glued together?
12 pieces gleud together
Any chance you would be willing to sell the files?
contact me
Hi, Really nice job! Do you have some details on software to generate the tool paths/ Gcode please?
I'm still trying to get my head around Aspire....any help would be a appreciated....
thanks...
Hello, sorry man..im allready helping another... busy life
What is the feedrate?
I don't understand hwo this can be a Fender body if you are cutting it yourself?
same measurements maybe?
donde compraron ese negro?
Hey Ralf, awesome Strat! Is the pattern for the guitar open source? What size bit did you use?
Hey Harry, the pattern is not open source... i used a 12 mm diamond endmill and a normal 8 mm endmill
Very impressive! Thanks for the info.
Hammy Wood 3 coats of basecoats( and filler) to close all the little holes..2 coats of colour and 8 coats of clear.
Ralf How do i get the files for this
Do you have the gcode available for this?
i have the .stp files for this
Hi, i love it!!
Which cam software do you using? Would you share that Guitar files?
Thank you!! Bob
Hi, I use solidcam. I dont share my plans anymore ..sorry
Grtz, Ralf
Ralf Klaassen
It si allright, Thanks Anyway ;-)
Very good job. Is posible your publik The G-code for my. I have a aluminum cnc of 650 x 480 x 150 mm to job área útil.
Muy buen trabajo. Podría dejarme su G-code para mi. Yo tengo una cnc de 650 x 480 x 150 mm útiles en el área de trabajo.
Sorry mi inglish. Es orrible.
Best regards.
*****
just watch my new video soon
*****
this was one of my first bodies
the radius on the neck part i found out later was wrong :-(
I regret that mistake. hope have solution. could me some advice on my first body. that wood? measures? some plane to the design? thanks
Hmmm....I might have left that stepped look from the cnc instead of smoothing the insets...maybe. Handy dandy machine though.
do you have the code?
Thanx!
Holy laminated body batman! If a 3 or 4 piece body is cheap I wonder how cheap a 9 or 10 piece is. I really hope no one has bought that guitar body.
Dont worry john..it was just learning cutting one
I did this in my GibbsCam class.
Awesome design! How long did it take for your cnc machine to cut all of that?
3,5 hours
Very nice!
how did you do OP2? how are you holding the body? screws? nails? suction cup?
I would love to get a copy of your cad files... Please!
Sorry, i dont give files anymore
That's to bad.
register on grabcad.com and download many files of people who share there cads to the world !
I agree, don't give away your files. Too much file sharing has ruined the economy. The Open source boom is a very bad idea ( except for lazy people )
It is OK. I designed it my self. I will share my files.
oops on the bridge pickup route..
yeah:)
Arquive donwload?
nice video!!!!
link download 3d model ?
i have them
It is mahogany wood
+Ralf Klaassen
You made your own CNC machine???
+Sam Cole Yes i did, i build 2 cnc machines
Ralf Klaassen
That's amazing. I'm impressed. I'm just taking an introductory course right now in CNC Programming.
+Sam Cole Goodluck with your course!!
Ralf Klaassen how much for a bass?
wonderfull work
could you send me the files
I know the answer is no but would you make a body for $ thanks
I am a journeyman machinist, and I would so love to be doing something like this rather than making gearing, and all the boring soulless shit that I make all day.
I am very grateful to be doing this work at times between the regular work, but we have worked hard to be able to do so.
Can i order a body?
Andreas Kempe Hello, Yes you can..but depends what you want? grtz, Ralf
Ralf Klaassen A fender stratocaster MIA body. i got a squire neck that i will use for it. How much will a body cost? With some of the best wood and such.
about 325 Euro
Andreas Kempe I will use swamp ash as wood choice... 2 pieces..its difficult to get it in one piece..but sometimes i am lucky to get a piece of wood big enough
Ralf Klaassen Sorry, that is too expensive.
Excelente trabalho usado o CNC .
Sandro Castro Thanx :-)
Nice music
I kept the pocket geometry so I could create different bodies.
AWESOME!!!!!💫
The music is annoying. I had to turn down the sound.
Okee..thank you for your useless information
Sorry Ralf... I liked your video, just not the audio...
Mike Evans
:)
Dank je Andrew :-)
kupię tanio to body
I have the files for this exact model, contact me if interested
Hi, can you send me the files?
i went to your page and wouldnt give me nothing try to see if u would send me the g-code for this fender build
can you send me the files

Who else thought there was someone in the background giving a thumbs up?!?
hahaha
+Ralf Klaassen great work by the way!!!
+Luke Thompson thanx!
Thumbs down? Really?

big deal, you cut out a slab of wood, let see you do a parker fly.
Timothy Lee No problem, but no time
500th like!
