Being a machinist of predominantly alloys, it's interesting to see the characteristics of wood in a cut. It looks like it all chips well, and handles plunging like a boss. I have always had a soft spot for the HAAS VF series! And good on you guys for keeping it all local, I know HAAS is a California based company as well.
I want that machine. you know how long it takes me to carve out just a little bit, he does the whole Guitar by the time I get half of a hole chiseled out.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but it seems to me that you could get two tops out of that huge thick top that got carved away - why does it start so thick only to remove most of it?
Jakfilm The top has to start at that thickness because it tapers. The area where the bridge sits remains flat while there is a taper to the top the closer to the neck you go. This is to ensure that the neck is at an angle that allows for proper string height along the fretboard, but not sitting too high or low at the bridge. Hope that makes sense.
Man, I am glad I am not the only one thinking that. "1 inch thick tone wood" and then shave it 1cm thick wasting almost an inch of wood for another project. That guitar has no soul.
It's an arch top, the centre section is much thicker than the outsides. Pause it at 4:55 and you can see very little wood is take off the centre section
Yes, it sort of hurts to see so much of that gorgeous wood wasted. But to be fair, of you've ever seen how classical instruments like celli and voilins are made then you'd find the waste proportionally much more on flamed maple etc... But nevertheless, regarding the problems of sourcing viable amounts of tonewoods, I'd definitely opt for a vacuumformed veneer. A burl top is only esthetics, so a veneer would look just as good. But with less bragging rights...
If you have any experience with machine shops, a very large percent of raw material gets thrown away as chips. The size of the raw material is generally a round bar or square plate, and then you have to make your part(s) out of that. Same goes with a guitar. You start with something thicker than your max and bigger than the profile size, then carved out to the appropriate contours. Good luck trying to get another guitar out of that.
Nice. That piece of wood was probably growing when Christopher Columbus sailed here. Should have cut out the pickup holes beforehand and made the pickups out of the wood.
Davi Silva Mota this is a buckeye burl top, they grow like this. This is one of the big knots you sometimes see on the bottom of trees. It contains all sorts of figuring and checks some of which has to be filled back up (in this case some of the black pieces on the top)
Apparently Gibson don't have such machines, as they claim that carved top is labor intensive work requiring skilled luthiers hence the price, poor poor Gibson.
unless its a semi hallow body guitar or a hollow body the tone wood doesn't matter just for looks you could make a plywood sound like a les Paul its all electronics and stings and amp that matters unless hollow these are facts do your damn research
Mateo Moreno ,if your hearing is sensitive enough you can tell the difference, it's very subtle, the things you mentioned do play a bigger part though.
of course it matters, it scientifically impossible that it doesn't affect vibrations...you just cant hear it unless its on either end of the spectrum of woods. mister smarty.
I was going to say that's not carved. It's tossed in a CNC machine and a computer shaped it. Carving implies a human with some talent spent some time shaping it. Which clearly isn't the case.
A HAAS machines to cut guitars??? to cut wood??? Who paid for that machine? That machine is for metal. It is too good of a machine for just a guitar. This video is about the HAAS. It stole the show. Neat guitar top, but ... maybe make a guitar out of metal.
It's so cool watching how another guitar like my CT6 gets its carves and curves.
I think I could watch a 1x speed video of this process without music.
I found the first two and a half minutes VERY relaxing and soothing.
+XaleManix Yeah us too, but to keep it short we speed it up and honestly it is weird without music :)
I could watch these videos all day. My two favorite things; Guitars and CNC machines. :)
Each guitar is handcrafted with years of luthier experience. Can you see the love put into carving this top?
A lot of passion went into shaping that wood.
Being a machinist of predominantly alloys, it's interesting to see the characteristics of wood in a cut. It looks like it all chips well, and handles plunging like a boss. Man that's such a beautiful top.
You guys should install a live camera pointed at these CNC machines all the time..
it's soothing to watch for me
Seriously, I'd have the live stream going all day
You should do more videos like this, it's really cool to see how guitars are built
That is a beautiful piece of wood and you have definitely made the best of it.
Wonderful stuff.
In love with that top.
amazing you don't get tear outs going that speed
this is so calming to watch
Beautiful wood and godlike router bits!
So cool. That guitar will look amazing.
That top is just art!!
Art and CNC don’t jive, sorry. Try art is done by the artist, not a machine that does all the work.
Amazing, Jeff you keep raising the bar!!!
Breaks my heart to see all of that beautiful Burl being carved away :) But I know in the end it's Soooooo worth it!
I love my Kiesel lefty x220....sounds great!!!!
I just received a lefty CT6 - brilliant guitar.
Gorgeous! Also, thanks for introducing me to new music!
Christ, that's gorgeous.
Well, this makes me want to buy a CT6! Nice work
WOW Object of Desire
Don't put pickup rings on that amazing top! Ah... too late.
Yeah, I've noticed the same. Pickup frames sucks on this top.
If I had a machine that could make a guitar like this then I’d go for direct mounted pickups also. Ring less looks the best.
Those machines know how to make a beautiful guitar, it's a shame we humans don't remember how to any more.
sure we do, but people won't pay what that amount of labor costs anymore
I want that machine. you know how long it takes me to carve out just a little bit, he does the whole Guitar by the time I get half of a hole chiseled out.
Need to see it with a proper finish.. amazing piece of wood
Crazy figuring in that wood
I love it .❤️❤️..
Watching from Nepal
What beautiful wood! What wood is it?
Dude. CNC machine asmr, it should be a thing.
100% HELL YEAH !
But I'd like to have a Floyd Rose but that top rocks☆ someday?
Love it!
Vacuum holding the body to the bed?
hypnotic cnc
amazing you never have chip outs ?
Why start with it so thick? looks like you could have made two tops with that amount of wood.
that what i thought beautiful wood going to waist
who is the band by the way ????? ......rob

you are right but a Carved top has more of a 3D effect in figured woods...aka chatoyance.
Love the process but whoever wrote the description gave me a good laugh with the lack of proofreading. 😃
I wonder how long it takes to program the machine to do that?
God I want that top!
Did it hurt anyone else to see all the wood top being wasted or is it just me?
Man, I am glad I am not the only one thinking that. "1 inch thick tone wood" and then shave it 1cm thick wasting almost an inch of wood for another project. That guitar has no soul.
It's an arch top, the centre section is much thicker than the outsides. Pause it at 4:55 and you can see very little wood is take off the centre section
That was a waste of that beautiful wood. If that were me, I would get at least a couple of guitars out of that one blank.
Yes, it sort of hurts to see so much of that gorgeous wood wasted.

Relaxing video..
any photos or videos of this guitar finished?
what kind of bit is that? awesome!
Nice. That piece of wood was probably growing when Christopher Columbus sailed here. Should have cut out the pickup holes beforehand and made the pickups out of the wood.
terus berkarya 💪💪💪
Этож просто работа мечты
Damn Haas CNC is so goid
Perfecto. I want one, hate living in the third world.
10:42 ....Did Alex Lifeson like his guitar? or did Neil or Geddy order this? ...LOL... :)
No vacuum-formed veneer here! :) Looks like this one was made just for GIS?
If you're not running that thing at 600ipm, are you even cutting? I run 400+ in aluminum all the time.
hermoso, saludoS
how am i just seeing this and why do i want a CT now?
Is Kiesel also known as Carvin? Love that spaulting!
That was the name before the company was passed down to the current owners...although the company did start out as Kiesel back in like the 50s(?)
what is the name of the wood used in the top???
Whats the resale values on K guitars?
How are these types of guitar top made? What kind of wood is it?
Davi Silva Mota this is a buckeye burl top, they grow like this. This is one of the big knots you sometimes see on the bottom of trees. It contains all sorts of figuring and checks some of which has to be filled back up (in this case some of the black pieces on the top)
What is holding the guitar body to the work surface of the machine?
Vacuum.
Still looking for the full track of the intro and outro
What kind of bit is used to do the carve ?
What type wood is that I'd love to have me some of that
Apparently Gibson don't have such machines, as they claim that carved top is labor intensive work requiring skilled luthiers hence the price, poor poor Gibson.
John Galt it is only luthiers can know how to align the guitar on the CNC machine
John Galt that was sarcastic
how are you holding the wood?
Its not bolted to the table?
How do you get a color like that on the top is that natural wood ?
Yes. The wood is called buckeye burl.
GiltronTheOnehi xtra
natural, the fungus that creates that effect in the wood and the colors come from absorbed minerals
Getting wood over wood🥴😂no this is honestly captivating
This Haas SS model is a VF-3SS or VF-4SS?
We use the 4SS
Nice wood....What wood is that??.....
Buckeye
Christian Whittington what a great wood figures!!!.....
imagine carving this buckeye by hand, i would shit myself from the intimidation
This is just not fair. That's 2 days of work by hand.
How it's attachted to the working table?
Custom vacuum table for each shape guitar, I am sure a few can do double duty for a few body types
@@T0tenkampfafter 5 years I figured it out
waisted a lot of wood shaved off the top man. could have trimmed and sent to me so I could use to build one for myself lol
🥺🥺🥺 eu quero uma
i wish i was that haas machine...endlessly drilling sexy slabs of wood
you killed half the tree making that guitar.
dope
Selling worldwide...and then I see a phone number that can only be used in the States....great.
If you would like to place an order from outside the United States, email international@kieselguitars.com
I'm not going to order, just wanted to help you help customers outside the US. I'm in Europe.
Im from Europe and have Kiesel(s), it's perfectly possible to order them, just keep in mind you're paying customs and what not...
Hi
Fantastis
what wood is that 0_0
+everybodylovesgav Buckeye Burl Maple top, White Limba Body
+Kiesel Guitars Carvin Guitars Its stunning lads :)
+Kiesel Guitars Carvin Guitars Any chance we can see the final product? And what's the song, by the way?
Why couldn’t that top be cut in 2 to make 2 tops? Just seems like a lot o waste.
burl maple top :)
Beautiful guitar but the bass is so nice way Vetter then the dinosaurs we run they literally still have floppy drive's.
Try really doing it, with your hands, the real way. Or are you not really a Luthier? Only a machinist too?
Was loving it. Until the music
DO NOT put this on 2x speed. Major motion sickness kicked in then they sped it up. LOL
Almost a shame to cut on such a pretty piece of wood, but then we wouldn't see all the detail inside.
If I were that machine I probably would of malfunctioned around the neck pocket
Randy Marsh spooky ghost. Jpg
how can I get a free guitar?
Haas only for wood or plastic 😅🤣
Why these European guitar so expensive lol
Made in USA
@@T0tenkampf damn i thought they were European too, bcz their price really similar to those guitar.. skervesen, mayones etc
unless its a semi hallow body guitar or a hollow body the tone wood doesn't matter just for looks you could make a plywood sound like a les Paul its all electronics and stings and amp that matters unless hollow these are facts do your damn research

Get back to work, Jeff.
I dont't know.... If I pay more than 2,5 grant for a guitar, I don't want a lifeless piece of wood, carved out by a cnc mill. Where is the mojo?
kazuki arashi In your hands 😂
I was going to say that's not carved. It's tossed in a CNC machine and a computer shaped it. Carving implies a human with some talent spent some time shaping it. Which clearly isn't the case.
CNC: Can not cut aka soulless.
lol, you wont get a top like this on any hand carved guitar for 2.5k...not even 7 years ago.
Kiesel- PRS ehh, who really cares at this point?
everybody is inspired by somebody unless you started building 75 years ago
