As a Canadian who is looking to winter and eventually move to Portugal, Oporto has my heart. My favourite day is taking the bus to a restaurant at the far end of the ocean boulevard for breakfast then walking back to the Port houses. A stop in Afurada (a small quaint fishing neighbourhood) for lunch a must. It’s a long walk, 2-3 hours with stopping along the way for pictures but it’s mostly flat. Just got back from my first trip to Portugal. Porto and the Douro Valley were my favorites over anything in the south. Enjoyed the south to but Porto just got me.
I loved Porto when there for several days last October. I’d even like to retire there. But sadly, my wife was not so impressed. I think she fixated too much on Porto’s grittier side, which I actually appreciated because it keeps it real. We are coming back for a few nights in Porto in May. Your video inspires me to pitch Porto to her again.
Same. It’s the gritty aspects that make me love Porto. It feels more real, grounded and relatable than say, Paris, in my view. Porto reflects life more truly and beautifully. I wonder if your wife would enjoy it more if you stayed in the swanky beachside Foz area next time. Or, if you still want to be very central, I recommend Bonfim neighborhood. It has more of a bucolic tree lined feel at the southern end near Rodrigues de Freitas. Possibly consider the affordable and charming Dukes Corner Hotel, right near my home. As to retiring there, it near impossible to choose a better balanced hit list of desires! I hope Porto is able to win her over next time! Be sure she sees Parque Serralves, view from Torre Clérigos, and maybe try a side day trip via train to Braga. Best wishes!
@@raeleohana8797 Wow, you read my mind as far as strategic planning is concerned: we are staying in Bonfim this time; I have Parque de Serralves on the list of possibilities for one day; and we're actually spending two nights in Braga after Porto. We did Torre Clérigos last time. She did want to see the Casa da Música last time but we didn't make it there, so perhaps we can squeeze it in this time (she is an avid harpist). On the other full day in Porto we're doing a day trip to Guimarães. Indeed, I do think she has Paris as a benchmark for appealing European city (and it has its own gritty side too!), but to her credit, she loved Lisbon and would live there in a heartbeat (I would too). Problem is, as you know, Lisbon real estate is crazy crazy expensive. I can't justify the price; it makes the soaring prices in Porto look cheap! Thanks for the comment, tips, and encouragement. Fingers crossed...

Wife and I went to Liveria Lello .. the line is super long but if you pay $10 a person you can jump the line and get a small nursery book as part of price per ticket. Well worth it!
Lovely video introduction to my home town! Thank you. "anémona" actually refers to a sea "anemone" the underwater movements of which this art installation mimics. Also next time you must have a coffee in the historic Café Majestic in Sta Catarina, one of the most beautiful of its kind in the world.
I think the station that inspired "Kings Cross station in Harry Potter" is King's cross station.

Muito bello! BEAUTIFUL JOB on this! As charming as watching a great love begin out loud. Loved it! It’s my first time visiting ur channel. I have 3 travel reads on Portugal on my desk and the book store has been on my to do list for 13 yrs! Lol. This is gonna be my year to visit!
I liked, subscribed, and shared ur channel widely halfway thru this video. Keep the content this good & ur gonna grow a LARGE audience of people back home, who LOVE Portuguese people, food, culture, landscape, ceramics/goods…
Looking forward to escaping vicariously via ur future content. Wishing you MUCH SUCCESS from L.A.!!!

I love your video on Porto, I love Portugal on the whole and I wish you divided the area of Porto into two and made two longer videos. Obrigado.
I will be making a full length episode Antonio. Thank you for the support my friend
Beautiful city - visited 7 - 8 times over the years in varying seasons. Not been since 2014/15, I think a return visit is long overdue...

😁
Saude!
Watching your beautiful video gave me the chills!!! PORTO is my hometown. Thank you 🙏 ❤
🙏🏻
As usual you knocked it out of the park Dave! Excellent!!!-Steven Garofalo
