Side Car.. learning to ride.

  • A quick look at what you will have to cope with when starting to ride a motorcycle with a side car fitted. The big thing that many beginners seem to forget is how slow you have to go on the left hand bends (if the side car is on the left). You will need to go perhaps far slower than you might think. A bag or two of gravel or sand in the side car may help a bit, until you get more confident. If you go too fast you will start cutting the corners and then you will clip whatever is on the inside of the bend. At this point you will either recover from what you have just done and learn or maybe stop the learning process right there and never mention the words side car again.

I picked up an old Dnepr military sidecar motorcycle and restored it. I enjoyed it so much I got the sickness. A Velorex sidecar showed up on craigslist so I drove an hour each way in my truck to get it. It's now attached to my Honda Shadow which is my daily driver.

Nice video and good advice. I'm an experienced rider but now a new sidecar owner (1 week, 1998 Harley Ultra Classic & matching sidecar). The biggest piece of advice I can agree with is to GO SLOW on turns into the sidecar as they can be terrifying without sidecar experience. Stay focused and GO SLOW on that turn. But I will admit.... it's a lot of fun!

Put some counter weight in the sidecar i.e. rocks or a person handles a lot better.

Nice video my friend, you should do some more. Outfits are making a very welcome comeback! Hopefully my own will be back on the road again this coming week, ' can't wait!! A brilliant and very truly economic form of 3 person+ transportation!

If you knew the first thing you would know that a bike with a sidecar can only be driven. NOT RIDDEN.
