Adam for future reference on the transom bolts never ever use silicone. For this particular purpose 3M 5200 is the only choice. Silicone degrades which will allow water to get into the transom. Will also act as seal not allowing the water to come out completely.
Thank you for the tip! 🤙
Start adding 1/8” wooden paint stir sticks between transom and outboard bracket and test drive every time you add a stick. Keep adding sticks (raising motor) until the prop starts to cavitate then remove last stir stick. Cut a piece of oak that equals total number of stir sticks and that’s where your outboard height is best for any particular hull.
Total nice video I just love that you’re showing things that as they are and also your fails. This is a how to video but also a great story.
Thanks for the shout out man!
Your welcome my man!
Subbed Automatically because of the intro, love skate plus fishing crew!!!
Should make another one and ship it to me 😂
I just got my jon boat from academy today. I'm going to follow your blueprint. Thank you for your vids. Wish me luck!!
Ayyye congrats! And good luck my man!
How’d it turn out
Nice job on the transom plate, it looks great
Really nice boat Adam....the extra precision u put in it is gonna make it last really long time...good luck..
Thank you!! And I hope so
I just upgraded from a 12ft to a 16 ft yesterday with a already built deck trailer trolling motor and 18hp mercury for 1500
Dang! That’s a hell of a deal!
Pode me dizer qual a polegada da cantoneira, assim como o tamanho?
Well done. Modyfi g Jon boat. Helpful thanks🎣💪👊👊🇱🇷
Nice vid 👍 Adam and I'm Abraham
Thank you! And I’m Adam
So the boat transom is 15" and your 8hp merc is 18"? You built the jack plate to match up the keel with the cavitation plate? how does it run now? Thinking of doing this. I have a 1978 7.5 merc 18" shaft.
Great video. You had Matt on the edge of his seat while you were drilling and he was yelling watch out firbyour hands dude! Then whack! You got your knee. Lol Great video ajd a thumbs down to the 1 person who thumbs down this video. Lol
Lol I’m glad y’all enjoyed it and yeah that hurt!! And left a bruise lol and yeah thumbs down to that loser lol
Looking great bud! A masterpiece in the making!
Thank you Hector!
👍🏻 great vid !!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it
What’s the exact size thickness of your jack plate u made is it 1/1/8 or just 1/8 is it a home depot or Lowe’s brand what’s the info
How's this holding up? 1/8 is awfully small to be structural like that. Nice work though man
Hi this holder look nice
Nice job!
Nice man!
Thanks man!
New to the channel, can you list what bolt sizes you used?
For just two or three inch rise I don't know why you didn't just stack a board or board w aluminum plate backing on top of the existing transom. Didn't even drill holes in the boat. A U shaped saddle to tightly hook over the top. Attached long angle iron vertically down the inside with holes to screw into the existing transom wood & attach wood extension.
I was originally going to use a 2.5" setback from CMC but after receiving it, its so heavy and bulky I returned it. My main goal is to set the motor back a little so I have more clearance with the tiller handle but a little rise wouldn't hurt either. I'm going to try this method and see how it works! Thanks for video, I plan on making video when I build it I'll be sure to mention you.
Anything you'd change a year later?
should of glued it before the paint with wood glue, clean, sand, then paint it, the glue will only bond to the paint, which can tear the paint off, instead of making a solid bond
While your not wrong, and 100% agree. It should be okay with the botls holding it together
Hey bro i liked pro job i have to make mine the same because i have 14’ and my motor its long shaft. So can you tell me how measure its the second board you make ? Also how many horse power i can put at this bracket plate i have 06 mercury 25hp thanks
great build
Like your video, but kept thinking of the motor lying on it side. Hopefully engine didn't hydo lock from the oil. Ps, marine grade plywood, expensive with no worries of rot.
It’s a four stroke so it has a certain side you can lay it on and it will be okay, has a sticker on it that tells you the side to lay it on
Very good vídeo i will. Doit
Looks great. Pro tip, never put a boat motor on its side. Lol other than that great work!
You can put a 4 stroke on it’s side, there’s a sticker on the side that is suppose to stay up at all times, but a 2 stroke can’t be on its side
@@AdamRyanA never heard of that. The motor oil in a 4 stroke will run down in the heads and even sometimes reach the carb. I’d say if you do so use caution and don’t do it for more than a few mins
I’ve had it on the side all winter long and it started up just fine the other day, these newer 4 stokes don’t leak like that
2 stroke engines can be put on it's side. They can run in any orientation for a while in reality...
So help me understand what would have been the problem with the original design? It seemed to me that it would have worked just the same, while being a little more sturdy.
if it's too low in the water... there is more drag and less top speed
Please research the dangers of grinding aluminum with a bench grinder
I was wondering when your next video was coming out
Lol this project took longer then I was expecting lol
What about a transom saver?
Yeah I still need to buy one of those, coming soon lol
Any updates after using it? Is the 1/8 angle holding up?
It’s holding up but there is definitely always that worry of what if it snaps, but I think that’s a normal worry but yeah it’s holding up with no problems
@@AdamRyanA thanks! I was able to find some 1/4 angle at a local supply shop.
@@AdamRyanA awesome boat btw and thank you for posting these videos. Definitely helping me to get mine wrapped up.
Do u know if 1/16 x2 is good enough
Silicone is the reason there are so many boats for sell with rotted transom
do you use transom saver?
Don't use silicone. Use 3M 4200 if you want to get the bolts out. If you don't care if you everget it apart again use 5200 but, you will not get it apart with out alot of work and damage. In Alaska fishing boats are sea)Ed around d even exhaust pipes while I. The water, 4200
👍
How much for mph did you get out of this?
Day one of trying to get youtubers to pin my comment
At 10:42, That’s what she said
Day one of trying to get youtubers to unpin the comment i commented on.
You got it boss
@@AdamRyanA 😂😂
Dropped a like, good video, I’ll be doing something very similar
Probably a bad ideal lying motor on side for a 4 stroke
No they can be later over a certain way, they even have a sticker on them showing you what way to lay it over
Why didn't you use a saws all , pretty simple and straight .
Why didn't you use a push sticking the table saw , safety first .
Dude my third comment. Wheres your picture to use as a diagram.
Measure onece , cut twice. !
The old adage is measure twice cut once !
Should have used starboard not wood
you mean to tell me i watched 9 minutes of you messing up....tf
