  • Today, a review I've written and unwritten twice already, of the weirdest and least practical piece of cutlery to ever cross my table, the WE Knives and Elijah Isham Eschaton.
    Here's the Birdshot IV Video I mention: • Brous Echelon vs WE Es...

    This video reminded me to carry mine today! Love it. Not a knife to take to the woods, but for a day around town it fits the bill. Believe it or not I actually EDC this thing a lot. But I carry everything I own and I rarely come across anything that truly needs a “hard use” knife. I love unique/ weird knives and this one definitely falls in that category.

    The blade is made out of m390 because you never want to HAVE to sharpen it

    • @BradGryphonn
      @BradGryphonn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ...and would probably never use it enough in a lifetime to need to even strop it. At that price, I'd do as Nick did and just show it to non-knife savvy folk and watch the reactions. Hang-on, there's an idea for a TH-camr with a few hundred or so to drop for the sake of our entertainment :o).

    • @hellcatdave1
      @hellcatdave1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It doesn't really look that hard to sharpen with any modern system. For the most part, both edges are straight. No recurve or anything.

    • @truetalon

      If that was true they would have used Bohler's Vanadis 10 steel which is harder still.

  • @DrakeDragonheart

    Love mine. I'd take this over something immensely boring like a sebenza anyday. It's a long knife at almost 9" but it doesn't feel all that big since it's so light and thin, compared to something like a Bodega or Max Evolution it seems smaller. I'd equate it to almost like a Tighe in the feeling but less broad even. Cuts just fine for me with packages, steak, loaves of bread, etc.

    Given the surprisingly decent ergonomics I have a feeling that, if you got rid of all the holes in the blade, filled in some in the handle to preserve the balance, and gave it a sensible grind, this would probably make a good cutting tool that would still look relatively badass and out there, especially for those of us with larger hands. I realise this is entirely missing the point but it's something I couldn't help but spot.

  • @Lewythefly
    @Lewythefly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Don't hate it because its different. Is it made well? Of good materials? Does it flip well? Is it balanced? Yes on all counts. If I see another spyderco which looks like every other spyderco I think I'll go buy a Z Hunter

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LewyTheFlyS13 different strokes. Funky art knives aren’t for me, but I can appreciate some of them. This one is just too non functional to me. I like the Zeta though, looks a little more useable. I like nice knives but they have to be practical for use and sharpening.

    Hey Nick, don’t know if you’ll ever read this but this very knife you reviewed just landed in Australia. I purchased it off eBay (they mentioned it was once yours, I can confirm now by the serial number) and had it sent to a company who specialises in exporting from the US, they sent it to an unspecified country in Europe by mistake and sent me a 45lbs computer server instead. After a month of angry emails they finally retrieved it and sent it to me in Australia. I remember you saying selling this was one of your regrets until you got the Damasteel version. Just thought you’d be interested to know the journey this little knife has taken. I’ll take good care of it.

Great for batoning and any bushcrafting :-) The Brous Echelon was a piece of garbage. Not one broken edge. Isham won't work with Brous anymore. He did an earlier knife with Brous called the Raven and it has many similarities to the Eschaton and is of way better quality than the Echelon. I like Isham's crazy designs and have several. I just think the materials would have been better used making a great tool rather than... whatever that is. I see how some could love it for being an art piece made of quality materials, just that’s not me personally.
