  • I am sharing the method we use for covering our potty boxes (litter box) because we use pine pellets that tend to be messy once used but are dog safe. The supplies needed can be picked up at your local hardware store most likely, like a Lowes or Home Depot, or on amazon.

      Hello there! It’s the same method for the outside potty training I did with Stormy! th-cam.com/video/CkZSJ7BZg_c/w-d-xo.html

      Do you use the potty box AND potty train them outside as well? Does that confuse the dog? Would love to see a video on how you train them using the box.

    Wow. Now that is a pro tip. So many benefits to this method including if you can't find the same litter and need to use something else. Was wondering how to use the pine pellets without it being a choking hazard for my chihuahua. Thanks so much... I think I will try this. Dog litter boxes can be so overpriced.

    I love your videos. Thank you so much for the great training videos. I’m just confused on where the pine pellets go. Do they go below the screen or on top of the screen? Thank you.

    So I’m getting a puppy havanese soon. I watched your video where you potty train storm by letting her out in the backyard with the command hurry hurry.
    I have a backyard and was planning to train the puppy like that.
    My question is: is it necessary to train the puppy with both potty box and outside potty? Or is going outside enough? Is it ok to train it outside but also to train it to potty box for times when you are not home maybe? Will the puppy be confused? I know I am 😅

    You make everything look so easy. How thick do you put the pine pellets underneath?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a thin layer so that I can no longer see the bottom.

    Nice job! Do u place anything, WeeWee pads, newspaper, etc in the bottom of the container?
    Is it a necessity to have a potty box for a pup? I’ll be home everyday, except for 2-3 hours upon occasion. Is it best in the long run, if someone has the time to potty train outside day & night and forgo the potty box? I’ve been wondering a lot about this and need to make a decision before I pick up my 9 week havi pup next week. I’d be so grateful for any insights you have. 😊

      Hi there. Sorry this slipped though my notifications and somehow saw it now. You can absolutely forgo the potty box. We did with Stormy that’s why she got to make the outdoor potty training video! I am home and had the time this for around. But my adults who are potty boxed trained can switch between the two no problem. Potty boxes I recommend for those who cannot get up at night or need to be gone for longer than 3-4 hours when their puppy is very young. They just can’t hold it that long. But if you are able outside potty training is absolutely an option!

    Hi there! I have a 1 1/2 year old female Havanese. We’re moving to an apartment and I was thinking of making this to make potty time easier since she does tend to need to go quite a bit with her tiny bladder lol. I was wondering if I could forgo the mesh topper if I use one of the faux grass potty pads for dogs to put on top of the grate? I am assuming the pine pellets go underneath the grate and the mesh is to make it easier for the pup to go on it and to not get to the pellets

    Hi, getting a Havanese in a few weeks. With the potty box at night do you just leave it in an X-pen and have their crate with the door open inside the X-pen overnight? Would I just potty train outside during the day and potty box at night?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly. As long as it’s within sight they are great at going to it. 🙂💜🐾

    We are getting a havanese at the end of May. We are home until school starts next year. How old are they when they can be left in a crate for 7 hours without going outside to use the bathroom. Would we want to teach her to use the potty box since she will be kenneled while we are at school starting in August?

    • @WittleHavanese

      I find it varies by puppy but typically around 5-6 months they can do a solid night stretch. But if you’re going to do that twice in one day I highly recommend a potty box until about 7-8 months old before asking the second long stretch.
      Also congratulations on your Havanese!

    This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you get your puppy to use the potty box?

  • @susansinclair9646
    @susansinclair9646 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure I understand this process. How do they learn to use this and why the screen? Perhaps a video on how to teach them to use it with direction on how this looks.

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They learn to use this with a potty command like in my video with Stormy.
      th-cam.com/video/CkZSJ7BZg_c/w-d-xo.html
      Same concept as this but in the potty box.
      The screen is used by us because with pine pellets they are the opposite of kitty litter. They turn to dust when the they absorb moister. So it can get messy. Or to protect the pee pad or newspaper from being disturbed. 🙂

    How do you get a puppy to use that potty box? Can they even get over the side at 8 weeks old?

    • @WittleHavanese

      I have a video about potty training and it’s the same concept but you use the box. Puppies as tiny as 6 weeks old can hop in without issue. 💜🐾

    Hi what are the measurements of the potty box you are using? Your link sends me to the Canadian site since I am in Canada so not sure if this is the Petmate large litter box 6.5'' H x 16.5'' W x 22'' or the Petmate giant litter box 25.56 In. X 18.3 In. X 10.02 In.? I am afraid to buy the jumbo and then the side is too big for my puppy. Please let me know, thank you.

      The large. Not the jumbo. A large or medium works well!
