As you've heard us say many times before, Lucio is integral to a lot of success in Overwatch, he does things no other support can do and this video shows some examples of why. Lucio played right can enable every team fight to be taken properly to give your team the best chance to win in order to get your team in position quickly and capitalize on plays and openings that are available to you before they are closed. Lucio is fun and criminally under-picked in matchmaking, especially since he has a near insta-lock pickrate among pro teams. Get speedin' and start winning!
I like that he is so important, i just hate that he is must pick. Wish there was a nerf they could do that wouldn't completely kill him, other then the obvious make a hero that counters the speed.
Please do a video on what characters to switch to at what times. more often then not, people switch to charecters that may be meta but dont do it in the right situations
DSPStanky has shown me the light! I felt "forced" into being a Lucio main, but after seeing our lord and savior I am now free! I am a Lucio main, and I am a free man, I do it for the betterment of mankind and I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT! HALLELUJA!
Lucio main here! I agree with most points in this video, most fun hero in the game by far in my opinion, and in my 40 hours of playing him no ones asked me to switch 😂 I also upload some videos on lucio such as my own guide, and a short montage :)
Why is Mercy the best support? Because she has high heals! Junkrat is a very likable guy, he has an explosive personality. What did Pharah say during the hail storm? Just ice rains from above! Never thought I'd see Mccree compete in the pageant, but he was stunning!
Happy to see this video, Lucio is my heavily preferred support character and I really want to get out of plat so it's nice to see if there's other things I can do, sadly I didn't see much that I already didn't know so guess I need more teammates that cooperate with speed boost.
One of the best ways to sound barrier is to sound barrier onto something higher that you. A good example is when standing on the payloads lower half, you can sound barrier from the lower half to the higher half and it cuts casting time in half. REALLY useful.
Hey just a tip I found for myself while trying Lucio, if you are on consoles go in and remap the jump button to the left joystick pressed down (L3)... this allows you to be mobile, constantly jumping and wall riding without having to take your thumb off the camera joystick to hit and hold X or A. it even let's you wallride in one direction, while spinning around to fire at enemies behind you or along side you, just think of it as a weird "sprint" button. It takes some getting used to, but there could be more characters that could benefit from this small change, such as Genji, letting him constantly double jump and wall climb while simultaneously aiming and throwing. Another thing I found is that characters like Mercy and Tobjörn have multiple weapons, and normally you have to take your hand off the movement stick to switch weapons, well again, just remap it to the L3 button, and now Mercy can effortlessly switch between healing/damage boost to fireing her weapon, all without having to stop moving for that split second or distracting you, it's incredibly useful. Anyhow I'm sure others have probably thought of this already, but if you didn't know please Thumb up so others can see too. :)
I strongly disagree with your amp healing thought process. You should always heal a character that is getting very low even if he is the only one that is low. Because if he gets finished off you are left 5v6. It's not worth the risk.
He explains that not his job, it's the job of a Ana or a Mercy (and even Zen). Yes the team can be left 5v6, but if an other healer can't heal him, it may be because he is not placed well.
The way I see it, if your other healer is low amp it up immediately, as it's not worth losing that healer in an engagement. However, if he's not low, save it until multiple allies are low. Your other healer should be able to solo heal a single dps/tank that's low anyways as explained in the video.
If they're fighting and actively taking damage, yes amp. But if you're blowing amp's too often you're going to be doing less overall healing, having less impact speeds and get less ults. I would have to break down situations to explain, but really, 36h/s vs 12h/s isn't a big impact heal. -F
I'm a Lucio main and you was saying about beat dropping faster, well if you've noticed he jumps up when dropping the beat, you can use the higher obstacles to speed up the animation. the rocks to the right of where you mentioned this would have done the trick, same with ground to payload. Hope I helped fellow Lucio players
at 8:04 in that engagement with the hog, I understand trying to confirm a kill, I do it myself, but the moment he starts to heal up, you need to engage speed boost and get the hell out of there. You kept a heal up and hovered in that area, causing your own death, if you'd speed boosted you'd have lived to tell the tale.
Glad I'm playing Lucio the same way you do. Means I'm not as bad as convinced myself I am. I'm a bit more aggressive with my Boop (but I usually pay the price for this). Quick question, which crosshair are you using? Mine is "stretched" and I feel it's not precise enough.
i love your videos cause its like people don't understand how some of these characters work still and i feel like everyone who plays Overwatch should watch these videos
Little tip try to save your amp for when you use your ult, then amp speed it helps hugely due to the fact your team will still be gaining healing off the second healer and you have 600 free health for awhile
Generally speaking, You do not need to use AMP heal with ultimate, very few things will break 500 shield instantly for entire team. Visualize the battlefield into two sections with red line intersecting it. When your team is at or has cross red line, Use your Ultimate to mitigate damage+Movement speed Amplification. plan your focus fire run the engagement smoothly.
Again, nothing about using wallriding. You talk a lot about positioning in Overwatch, but say nothing about how wallriding is one of the highest skillcap positioning skills and mastery of when and how to use it is invaluable. I've made wallrides that saved games and denied entire zen-orb flanker pushes on me. And before it comes out: yes, I know wallriding has the potential to throw games by having a predictable arc and showboating over supporting, but that's the difference between being great at wallride and MASTERING wallride. You have to not only know how to do the ride you need for the situation, but also know when a ride is needed, measuring the value of the gained positioning over the lost contribution to make that ride.
MarKus Knight To add to your comment, I've found that being a Lucio main who frequently wall rides has allowed me to contest the point for extended periods of time because the enemy couldn't hit me even in 1v6 scenarios. ESPECIALLY on Lijiang Garden where Freedo didn't wall ride even once that I noticed. The ability to just survive while under fire and stalling for your team to come back in force and hold the point when it looked like a sure loss has been much more effective many more times than anything done in this video.
Wallriding comes in naturally if you practice the geography of the map frequently. All you really need to know is the map itself is your path, you just need to be constantly searching the optimal “roads”. If you know the Manga called Air Gear, then Lucio translate that fantasy.
I don't think Freedo is or would claim to be amazing at Lucio at the moment, this might be just me, and I don't claim so either, but there were a lot of moments in this gameplay footage where I would have preferred speed boost over healing, like when the Rein was running away and he got anti-healed, or most of the times when he uses Ult in the footage he stays on healing instead of speed boosting to help the team be agressive with his shields. Now I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, I know you can heal underneath the shields but I could swear his team was full health multiple times. And then that would explain why he doesn't use wall ride at all, I don't think any of us did when we started to pick up frog boy.
I've seen Freedo comments on Professor Ganymede's videos. He doesn't agree with Stanky's style. He, like a lot of Lucio Snobs think that Stanky is a novelty. He may have changed his tune but not to my knowledge.
i dont think these guys are as good as most think they are. they make a lot of sloppy mistakes that i would be looking to punish. they may know some stuff about this game but their large generalized audience is doing nothing but holding them back
i'd like to see your views on unique ways to buff heroes. thats mainly the idea of say how instead of buffing hanzo's damage they increased the projectile speed or how they reworked symmetra instead of just increasing her base values
@@yuuta1712 same im Gold and have better mechanics(Aim not lol) as Lucio. And even in his clips he isnt healing active dmg often. I dunno what he meant with high impact lmao
Hey man! a few tips for aiming with Lucio. When you shoot spin your mouse in a circle. You basically throw aoe that is more likely to hit at least one instead of none. I know when you play other characters you have low sensitivity. but as he says, "amp it up!" if you increased your aim sensitivity and make sure you free up backwards wall rides you can be the biggest bully ever. lucio has unmatched situational awareness and utility.
Freedo, I noticed at 7:22 of the video you turned your back on an enemy Reaper. Why would you do that? I play Lucio seemingly ALLOT because no one else wants to and it's just really getting old IMO. Blizzard should put out another healer with constant AoE heals IMO. Because lets face it, the continuous grind of playing Lucio is getting old. Good Stuff Freedo and crew!
Honestly Lucio's wall ride is too fun for me to get bored of him. So long as my dps shoot shit and my tanks do tank things I'm happy running Lucio till the end of time.
I'm a master Lucio (Peak 3800) And I almost always QuickDrop my sound barrier. for those of u who doesn't know. Like he said in the video. When u ult u jump up in the air for a 1,2 seconds. And that delay can be huge. So quick dropping is basically that with the Qjump, u jump up to a higher ground for a quicker. It's the most easiest to practice/do on stairs.
You should've added some of the tips for his wall ride. Its not crucial to know but can really help in certain situations, like when you need to boop soldier off high ground, or just run away
Arkreiner I don't think he knows how to do it effectively. Check out "Lucio Wall Ride Fundamentals" on here by Jamie Allegro. He'll get you off to a great start. Also go into Lucio's settings and enable backwards wall riding. This is a recently-added setting and makes wall riding more free-flowing and easy. Once you get wall riding around, Lucio becomes infinitely more fun to play.
the only problen i have as a lucio main is, when im playing without a stack there are going to be people who dont play him really, and they dont understand not wasting amp it up. for example theres a genji who pokes by himself and is the only one damaged on the team and im on healing already, but he still runs up to my face and says "i need healing" but he gets salty because i dont amp it.
I wish more people realized Lucio's true potential and understood that he's not just "Speed boost the team to the point then stay on heals forever". I'm so tired of getting yelled at by team members because I made the call to speed them away from incoming ults or through choke points, all because I stopped healing for a couple seconds to do so.
I saw a few times in his video when speed boost should of been being used yet you had Healing on. Overall though the point of the video was pretty spot on
Freedo, when running a mirror of the enemy team's comp on a quiet team, whats the best way to figure out if your soldier/pharah/ana just ulted, or theirs? I "broke it down" a couple times last night after you inspired me to play Lucio, and got lucky more times than I didn't. :D Thanks for the video, this is one of my favorites, and I've watched them all for the last few months! :)
Everything in this video was awesome my only comment is that you need to use speed more in team fights, switch off of heals and speed so it's nearly impossible for your team to get hit. And I know what I'm talking about... 100+hrs of lucio.
I play lucio as main, but at gold rank i seem to get not much value out of him because of bad positioning of team etc. What do you guys think might help here when solo queuing and dont have coordinated teammates?
Define Lucid at that level, team coordination is pretty terrible, especially when solo queue. I personally only solo queue at around Diamond/Master but due to everyone's better game sense I still get good value off speed, so it's just your rank really. And as to solve this problem? Not really sure, probably have to neglect the speed boost unfortunately and stay on heal for the majority
Sadly there are certain characters that it's damn near impossible to rank up with. I was a Reinhardt main (as in I solely played Rein because we only ever have a Roadhog). One day, I decided that since I was having such a good day as Soldier in QP, I would try him in comp. I ended up going up 300 SR in one day. I was carrying nearly every game I was in, where if I were playing Rein, I wouldn't be able to do what I was doing. I'd say learn a versatile character that you can basically carry games with
I like to use the "Hold to Crossfade" option, so everytime we need speed I have to hold down a button and when we everything happens it will switch back to heal :)
I personally use my ult depending on whether we are steam rolling or not if we are I'll use it combined with speed boost to get my team up in their faces but if we aren't dominating I'll save it and use it as a counter ult against something like a Pharah or Reaper.
The thing is with Lucio in lower play, and I'm saying from experience, you can solo a D.va EASILY if you are near a wall because 9 times out of 10, they can't aim at all and self heal is just enough
i main lucio and he is so fun to play like i have saved so many people with boop and my ult like he can be fun once you learn how to utilize him very well
When you use your ult as lucio you should use it mid jump and it activates faster than when you don't jump because it doesn't have to make the jump for you.
2:40 still, while even though your second healer is out, everybody is at like 600HP for that team fight so the fact that your timings were slightly off doesn't really matter. of course, ideally you would have your Ana for Nano, Sleep, biotic grenade to drag out the fight etc
I got to masters only playing Lucio. So I would say I'm pretty good with him. A little tip from me: Use your SpeedBoost more. Please. You are almost only on healing.
3:30. Enemy Zarya ult, your Rein shield up. how did you know to switch to speed/amp when D.Va fly ulted instead of cleaning up the trash damage on your team?
I've start posting OW vids on my channel to review my team and I's play. So far all my vids have been using Lucio so this video is a lot of help. :) Currently I am working on better timing of his Ult as well.
My friend showed this to me because he noticed something. The Reinhardt of enemy team at 6:24 has the same name as me. Weird, I know it isn;t me because I haven't played OW since the summer.
Normally I do the same, and if solo situation I might use myself to block incoming damage and blast enemies away while teammate is retreating to gain health.
Passive: Exist. Ability 1: exist faster. Ability 2: Exist harder. Ultimate: temporarily prevent the enemy team from ending your existence.

Great video, highlighting the crucial moments when to use amped speed boost and when to switch for heals.
Cheers guys, this intense coverage is actually helping me quite a bit, as I'm only really picking up Lucio and leaving Mercy behind recently.
Hey guys can you help me find the beat?
I seem to have dropped it.
EpikSquared LETS DROP THE BEAT

What did Pharah say during the hail storm? Just ice rains from above!
Never thought I'd see Mccree compete in the pageant, but he was stunning!
How did Lucio better explain his presentation? He broke it down.
undead890 Me joined the police force.
Happy to see this video, Lucio is my heavily preferred support character and I really want to get out of plat so it's nice to see if there's other things I can do, sadly I didn't see much that I already didn't know so guess I need more teammates that cooperate with speed boost.
one tip don't jump when use your ult
I CAN'T HELP IT
Anze G haah
Timon Van Dam Jumping from the highest point in the map adds 200 shield though.

These tips helped me out a lot! Thanks
Thanks for the guide. I've been using speed boost too much lately, mainly because I look at how dspstanky plays.

Be DSPStanky.
Communicate the best you can. If just one or two more people communicate with you and work with you it can swing a disorganized game in your favor.
I'd say learn a versatile character that you can basically carry games with
Pick attack Hanzo and carry yourself out of elo hell.
I did it and I went from mid plat to Masters in the space of a night
3:50 "Make sure you're focusing down the right target" Shows gameplay of him punching a patchimari XD
Such a great video that i had to like it twice :D
after watching DSPSTANKY this looks like a beginners guide than advanced guide....
tip: whenever you pop lucio ult...switch to speed boost immediately...staying on healing is unnecessary...tankiness plus speed is pretty op in comp...
To pop a quick sound barrier you just need to jump up a flight of stairs
Please do a video on how to run a split comp and what one id
Climbed from gold to master Lucio only. 63 hours of Lucio in comp season 3 right now. I approve this video
Welcome to Your Lucio-Watch. The channel where we discuss how best to play Lucio, and how if your playing any other healer, your throwing the game.
I like to use the "Hold to Crossfade" option, so everytime we need speed I have to hold down a button and when we everything happens it will switch back to heal :)
Amp doesn't have a 12 second delay, it's a cool down
Same thing... You are just annoying.
James Lynch That's what he meant
Me: Don't tell me how to play my main
Also me: *Clicks on video*
That Lucio POTG at the end though feels bad man xD
I love playing as Lucío especially now because I got his awesome ribbit skin today.
I personally use my ult depending on whether we are steam rolling or not if we are I'll use it combined with speed boost to get my team up in their faces but if we aren't dominating I'll save it and use it as a counter ult against something like a Pharah or Reaper.
When you play Lucio and you tell your team "I'm speed boosting in 2 seconds and no one pushes with you 🙁"
freedo if you are reading this you should put on speed ora when you brake it down cause your team has an abundance of health
The thing is with Lucio in lower play, and I'm saying from experience, you can solo a D.va EASILY if you are near a wall because 9 times out of 10, they can't aim at all and self heal is just enough
I'm super early today love the videos as always
thought it was pretty ironic that you're making a Lucio video and the enemy Lucio got the POTG at the end of the video lol
i main lucio and he is so fun to play like i have saved so many people with boop and my ult like he can be fun once you learn how to utilize him very well
When you use your ult as lucio you should use it mid jump and it activates faster than when you don't jump because it doesn't have to make the jump for you.
2:40 still, while even though your second healer is out, everybody is at like 600HP for that team fight so the fact that your timings were slightly off doesn't really matter. of course, ideally you would have your Ana for Nano, Sleep, biotic grenade to drag out the fight etc
I remember when I played lucio for the first time on the beta, I thought you had to shoot your allies to heal them lol
I got to masters only playing Lucio. So I would say I'm pretty good with him. A little tip from me: Use your SpeedBoost more. Please. You are almost only on healing.
did you change your screen settings ever? It looks better for some reason
3:30. Enemy Zarya ult, your Rein shield up. how did you know to switch to speed/amp when D.Va fly ulted instead of cleaning up the trash damage on your team?
3:19, sorry
Great video guys
"We're going to be breaking down lucio's gameplay" BREAKING DOWN
Great video keep it up!
Were they running quad tank at one point?
you spelt exist wrong
You spelled "spelled" wrong
Instant Noodles you did the wrong spell...
its liviosaaaahh ;)
You can use "spelt" or "spelled", it's personal choice.
Actually it can be spelled or spelt. Depending on where you're from.
PrincessAshley121 I'm from UK. it's spelt here
I've start posting OW vids on my channel to review my team and I's play. So far all my vids have been using Lucio so this video is a lot of help. :)
Currently I am working on better timing of his Ult as well.
The thing is that I learned this all through experience
My friend showed this to me because he noticed something. The Reinhardt of enemy team at 6:24 has the same name as me. Weird, I know it isn;t me because I haven't played OW since the summer.
Normally I do the same, and if solo situation I might use myself to block incoming damage and blast enemies away while teammate is retreating to gain health.
can you do either reaper or symmetra next please?
high impact Lucio violence
What about teams who don't know how to play with a good Lucio advantage?
that quad tank though
Can you do a Winston pro player breakdown on miro
You forgot to tell them to go for massive boop plays that can risk throwing the round.
I'll tell you hwut tho... I'm the gamblin type : ^)
I wished you go in more depth with Lucio mobility, like his wall ride
+Respect for using one of Lucios hockey skins, so underrated and the frogs are way overrated
Lucio can wall ride and while in the air ult and it makes him double jump like genji
When you play support you always get hooked or pinned no matter how many teammates are in front of you.
sombra guide pls
